The Space

Nicely appointed junior one bedroom in Oakland's Uptown/ArtDistrict. Decor is clean and modern and has all the comforts of home.   Kitchenware and spices are provided to make a home cooked meal. There's a wonderful Korean market across the street. If cooking isn't your thing, you can stroll a couple of blocks to some of Oakland's best restaurants and bars. Restaurant and Bar recommendations include Mua, Pican, Hawker Fare, Luka's, Pican, Ume, and Ozumo.

The neighborhood is the home of  Oakland's Art Murmur (website hidden)
There are open art galleries the first Friday of every month, and every Saturday.  Loads of fun-- lots of art where you get to meet the artists and vendors. Or eat, drink and enjoy the bands.  Be sure to attend this if you're in town.

People often ask about the safety of the neighborhood -- it's urban and ethnically diverse -- so you have an eclectic mix of working professionals, grit, artists, homeless and hipsters. If you feel comfortable with this description, you will feel comfortable here. I personally love the area and feel safe.

Building is located about a 7 minute walk away from world famous Paramount and  Fox Theaters.  Be sure to check their websites prior to your visit to see if your favorite artists will be performing.

Also, conveniently located is BART (train system).  It's only 6 short blocks away. Trains are frequent, usually arriving every few minutes.
San Francisco -13 minutes away
Berkeley -7 minutes away
Oakland Airport/coliseum station - 11 minutes away
San Francisco International Airport - 46 minutes away
You really don't need a car. Otherwise, there's ample street parking. You are minutes away from (phone number hidden), the Bay Bridge,  Highway 24 or Highway 13.

The building has a cool roof deck where you can see the bright lights of Downtown Oakland in front of you  and the  San Francisco skyline in the distance.  The unit is 600 sq feet, and can comfortably accommodate up to 4 people.  There's a full sized bed, and a European Futon that can  convert to a full sized bed.  Free cable and wifi is provided. You're also more than welcomed to use the washer and dryer in the unit.

If you have any questions, please contact me. Hope you enjoy your stay in the Bay Area.

  • Great apartment, in a good location for both access to both Oakland and San Francisco. Fully furnished and a kitchen with everything you need if you want to eat in rather than out.

Great contact from Fred making sure we had everything we needed, we really enjoyed our stay.

  • The apartment is really cosy and comfortable! Although I did not get to Fred and Janet, they are very friendly and helpful in their replies. Yvonne helped to check us in and she is equally very nice as well!

The kitchen was fully equipped and the entire place was furnished tastefully. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Thank you Janet and Fred for making my first airbnb experience such a pleasant one!

  • We really enjoyed our stay at this apartment. It was clean and well laid out. This apartment is also very convenient to the uptown area (full of restaurants and bars), a couple blocks from the Lake (good running trail), close to whole foods and there is a brand new beer tasting room right downstairs which was awesome. The roof deck was also really nice. I will say that the apartment is in a transitional neighborhood so there might be some characters out and about late night, though it was no issue for us (if your from a major city then you are used to this). If you rent a small car you will have access to their garage parking space, if not there is street parking and we never had an issue finding a spot. I would highly recommend staying at this apartment, it's perfect for a couple

  • Everything as advertised, great, comfortable stay and easy to follow instructions!

  • We live in the neighborhood and used this apartment for my mom and Aunt visiting from out of town. It worked great - however I don't let them walk by themselves to and from our apartment to this apartment, they definitely look like targets and out of towners.

  • Silent en calm area, we came from the airport by air-train (j'adore) and arrived in Oakland very surprised opposite with what we have heard about it.
Anyway, it's easy to find the place, it's the only brand new construction around.
Nice welcome by Jeff who made us feel like at home and showing all you have to know. There's stickers everywhere and a paper list for all you have to know about the condo.
The pictures show exactly what we have found, a nice and clean condo and a terrace on the roof (j'adore too).
By the way, a Korean market is located just in front, 10sec by walk, where you can find some basic food.

  • Our stay was AWESOME! My picky parents who directly flew from S. Korea truly liked the place! It was neat, convinient, and safe. The only little thing they complained was the parking spot. But they got used to it in the end :) We will come back for our next visit for sure!

  • I have never used Airbnb before but will use it again.
    It was economical and convenient.

  • Fred was a great host both times we stayed here and we really enjoyed the roof deck, proximity to BART, bars, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and the movie theater. Be aware that the stack parking spot has a height limit of just about 5 feet, i.e., if you have a car and it's taller then 5 feet you'll have to park on the street. The condo is very well-kept and modern but I couldn't figure out how the AC worked. The AC issue isn't that big of a deal because this is the Bay Area and the weather is very temperate but it can get a little toasty on a warm day. In summary, this is our go-to place to stay when we visit the Bay Area because the pros grossly outweigh the cons.

  • I live in Oakland and my mother, from NC, never travels, is very particular, and she insisted on her own place when we booked her a flight out. We went with Janet & Fred's Condo. My mom's flight was cancelled at the last minute due to weather and when I explained the situation to Fred, he allowed me to save my reservation and rebook when we rescheduled her flight.

When I booked the place, I was a little concerned that the location on this particular street corner would be too sketchy for my mom to handle, but it was actually avery safe building, and pretty quiet on the street at night. The place was extremely clean, neat, large, bright, open space and perfect for my mom.

I was able to come over and fix breakfast and have coffee on the rooftop with her, and conveniently amble to the BART for site seeing in the City. She does NOT walk a lot, so that should tell you that it's that close. When leaving she said that she wants to come back and stay here!

    Great place.

Things We love include.... Traveling -- whether it’s local or international travel, we love learning customs, cuisines, and meeting local people. It enriches the experience of traveling. This is primarily why we chose airbnb as the conduit to rent out our condos. When you live amongst locals, the experience of traveling becomes more intimate and personal. Eating -- We love a good meal from any venue -- it could be a sit down restaurant or a food truck/street vendor. A nice glass of wine or a good cocktail wouldn't hurt either. Spending time with our sweet dogs. We are avid dog lovers. They can be a handful, but it's so worth it. We couldn't imagine life without them. Also, we love anything Oakland. Oakland is often given a bad rap because anything you hear on the media is almost always negative. Even local Bay Area people overlook this city. When we have ve visitors, the first thing they say is, "I had no idea that Oakland was this nice". There's a huge foodie scene, lots of great boutique shopping, hiking, good restaurants, bars, museums, a beautiful lake to run around, a golf course up on the hills that has a par 6. We still have so much more to discover.
