About this listing
A restored 19th century house overlooking the village and the sea in the distance below. A perfect place to read, relax, walk, and use as a point of departure for daily excursion to the mountain and beaches of the region
Our house is an old stone house (built in the 1880's) restored a few years ago.
HOUSE LAYOUT on three levels.
The top level is one room which occupies the whole floorwith windows on all 4 sides. There is a fireplace, king size bed, sofa , old desk armchairs etc. THe windows offer a view of the huge plane tree of the village square, and the sea in the distance.
On the medium level is the bathroom, and the double bedroom (the one with the red wall on the photographs) which has two single bars side by side.
The lower level has a fully equipped kitchen with table for 6 people, a washing machine for clothes + sofa that can be used as a bed upon occasion. The kitchen has direct access to the terrace and also to an adjacent room (formerly a stable was a stable) which serves as a living room or 3d bedroom. There are couches/beds, armchairs, large fireplaces etc. Some of the furniture in our house belonged to my grandparents, and were brought by them to mainland Greece when they arrived in 1922 as refugees from Asia Minor.
The region of Pelio is one of the most beautiful regions of Greece. It is also a region that has been spared from the ravages of mass tourism. Its foremost appeal is the combination of mountain and sea. The mountainous peninsula is made such that within the time span of a 20 minute car drive one passes from beaches and the low shrub Mediterranean maquis vegetation, through olive groves, pine forests, and deep shaded chestnut tree forests. All 24 villages that compose the heart of the region have been well preserved architecturally and many are listed and protected. Our village is one of them.
There is one through road cutting the village for traffic but all the side streets etc are cobbled staired paths. Our house is a 2 minute walk from the parking lot. Our house is among the highest up in the village. It has both a garden and a large terrace in front of it with unobstructed views of mountains and sea for many miles. The closest beach is 25 minutes by car. There are also many paths for walking. We will provide all the information about our favourite places to go, whereto eat etc.
