Great location
100% of recent guests gave the location a 5-star rating.
We are a 29 acre, small farm about 14 miles from the main gate of Fort Hood. We have 24 alpacas, 7 llamas , goats, & chickens! We are a military family and truly love Central Texas. If you are passing through with horses, we have plenty of room and facilities for them as well. We have space to roam. The rustic studio is approx. 480 sq ft with a kitchenette and full bath. It is attached to the alpaca grazing area. You can drink coffee with the alpacas or watch them from the barn deck.

The space
This is a cozy, rustic studio barn space overlooking the alpaca grazing area. We have basic furnishings that meet most needs. I use this space for goat soap, goat lotion, and goat cheese making when there are no guests. There is an attached 2nd story deck to relax and overlook our farm. The room is integrated into our red barn. We do use the barn daily to feed and water the alpacas. The other side of the barn is used for alpaca fiber storage and there is a small guest suite.

Your room is a private space located away from our home. However, we are frequently around this space caring for animals.

* We are not always available to halter and walk alpacas outside of show season. We both work and try to spend time with our kiddos in the evenings. However, if you are interested in haltering and walking an alpaca let me know. There is a small fee but this helps us continue to provide our animals with lots of grub, which they appreciate!

** We are also bee keepers! Please be aware that honeybees happily live on this property and will leave you alone if you leave them alone. If you have a known bee sting allergy then always have your Epi-Pen/ rescue medication with you! We keep Benadryl in the main house!! Just ask if needed. We can also point out the hive location so you can avoid this if wandering around!

Guest access
Guest can park under the trees. Guest can roam freely as long as you close every gate you open!! We are on the edge of the hill country so we have lots of rocky terrain and uneven surfaces outside of the concrete area of the barn. We have an in ground pool for use as well in the summer.

Other things to note
We have farm animals that do farm animal type things without regard to who’s watching. There is poop, bugs, ants, spiders, and maybe things that slither, so always be aware of your surroundings. The health, safety, and well-being of our animals is of upmost importance. Please ask us before feeding them anything.

PLEASE, PLEASE do not chase our animals. DO NOT let your kids chase our animals!!! It takes a long time for camelids to trust humans. Chasing them will guarantee minimal interaction and this is very annoying to us since we have spent years gaining their trust!

Our animals are friendly and we have never had an issue with behavior. Just remember they are prey animals and may be very nervous around strangers! They do kick so avoid touching their butt area.

We have a creek and pond where you can fish. It’s hot now and the warm weather combined with rain = frogs! If you are around the creek please be on alert for snakes.

WiFi: Out here it is fair at best! If you need strong, fast internet this is not the place to stay. Sorry, it is just part of being out here!

Location

Kempner, Texas, United States

We are fairly rural. You can grab dinner in Lampasas or Copperas Cove easily (both are about 10 minutes away). Killeen and Harker Heights are about 20-30 minutes drive. We also have a nice German restaurant in the metropolis of Kempner.

About 45 minutes away is Fiesta Winery and Colorado Bend State Park. We would be happy to make suggestions.

I am a mom on a mission to change the lives of families affected by pediatric cancer!! Our world forever changed in 2016 when our child was diagnosed with cancer. Proceeds from your stay will be placed in our charity to continue to help families with food and travel expenses while they are staying out of town for cancer treatments! We also take alpaca related gift items to the hospital every 90 days.
