THINGS TO NOTE
-We keep our price low because we like hosting people from around the world and helping them have a great stay in DC.
-If you are very allergic to dogs and/or cats, this is not a place for you, as we have one of each. Our dog is friendly, but she barks the first time anyone comes through the front door. That said, the animals do not dwell in the guest areas.
-You will have a private entrance that allows flexibility to come and go; as long as you are reasonably quiet, it will not disturb us if you come in late.
-We get up at 7am on weekdays (and leave by 7:45am) and 8am on weekends. We try our very best to keep quiet and tread lightly, but it's an old house and certain floorboards make noise. If you are going to need to sleep in late and you need ultimate quiet to do so, you may want to consider other hosts. This is a small, cozy room and it bests suits people who are here to be out and about!
-We have added a small kitchenette with a microwave and mini-fridge.You can come upstairs to do dishes or get anything else you need to have a light meal. Also, we don't mind people use our kitchen or eating in our dining room as long as they are considerate.
-We love having guests here but we also have two girls (7 & 9) and so of course expect respect and consideration. In return, we will do the same for you and will help you make the most of your time in DC!
You will have your own bedroom and private bath. You can let us know if you'd like breakfast during your stay and we are happy to provide cereal, milk, yogurt, toast coffee and tea.
Interaction with Guests
We respect that guests want different levels of interaction or privacy. We try to be as helpful and as available to orient our guests, but we will let you be. We very much enjoy meeting people from around the world by hosting guests through Airbnb. Our daughters are working on saying goodnight in as many languages as possible!
We don't travel a lot, but occasionally go out of town on the weekend. If this is the case for your visit, we will try to let you know in advance and we have neighbors who also host on Airbnb and they will be available to help you. We can always be reached by phone or text. This has worked out in the past and some of our awesome guests have even fed and pet our cat while we are away.
Our neighborhood is a village in a city! There are beautiful, well kept row houses, some apartment buildings, shady parks, and very friendly people. We live right backed up to a park where families bring their children to play soccer. We love to walk and bike everywhere and you can see the Bikeshare kiosk from our backyard. We are about a mile walk from two metro stations (Union Station and Eastern Market) and 2 blocks from the D6 bus that goes to the National Mall, downtown, and even all the way to Georgetown.
The closest public transportation to our house is the D6 bus two blocks away at the corner of 13th and C Streets NE. You can also pick up an X8 bus 3 blocks away on Maryland Ave or the X2 bus 5 blocks away on H Street.
Other Things to Note
We have a dog, Lily, and a cat, Little Rock. Both are friendly but we keep them out of the guest areas just in case guests have allergies. Lily barks at guests when they arrive, but she quiets down quickly.
We do not have cable TV, but we have free wifi and a Roku box you can use to watch TV shows or movies on Netflix.

Excelente lugar...todo perfecto y muy lindo. Ellos son un matrimonio que ayudan en todo. El lugar muy limpio, vencindario muy tranquilo. 100% recomendable. Aun extrañamos a litle rock. Gracias por todo
My boyfriend and I had a great time at Ken and Nicole's. First, before our arrival, Nicole sent us a very useful message with all we needed to know to get to the house and access the room, and even the best way to travel from the airport to the house (depending on where you land). Then, the room itself was very cozy. The description was very accurate. We had a TV, a closet, a small fridge, and other little things to make coffee and tea in the room. It was really perfect for our stay! The private entry was extremely useful too.
The location of the house was great for us. We did decide to take ubers to get into the city in the mornings and back to the house in the evenings, but that was more due to cold than distance.
As a family, Ken, Nicole and their kids are all very friendly and welcoming. They never made us feel like we were strangers in their home. The last day of our stay was declared a snow day, and we didn't really have anywhere to go since museums and most businesses were closed for the day. Ken and Nicole were so accommodating and let us hang out in their living room with the whole family until we were ready to get to the airport later that day. I even went on a walk with Nicole and her girls and had the opportunity to explore the neighborhood (which was really nice!). At the end of the day, Ken even drove us to the train station which was really appreciated! Stephane and I were both so pleased with their hospitality. Their dog Lily was the cherry on top of a fantastic stay. She is the sweetest!
We unfortunately didn't get to meet their cat Little Rock, but hopefully we will next time we come to DC!
Thanks again for everything Ken and Nicole!
My stay at Ken and Nicole's was just as promised, and I was very happy and comfortable in their home. I appreciated having the private entrance, and enjoyed working and resting in my cozy room while hearing the sounds of family life above me. The family was very welcoming and friendly, and I was especially glad to have good coffee from their kitchen each morning.
Ken and his family were very welcoming and made us feel right at home.
The room and everything provided was perfect, the local knowledge of public transportation, parking and places to visit was fantastic.
They were very flexible with storage of our luggage after check out due to late flight out.
Netflix was a really nice touch to relax in the evening after a day out.
We would definitely like to stay there again.
Ken and Nicole are great hosts. They were very welcoming and the room has everything you need for a good stay. It is well located and there is plenty of parking on the street. Nicole was very helpful when we encountered a little problem with our hockey tickets. We really enjoyed our time in D.C. and would definitely recommend staying there.
I had a wonderful stay at Ken and Nicole's place. The private suite was exactly as described – I found it clean, cosy and comfortable, with a nicely stocked kitchenette. It suited my needs perfectly. I was in DC for only a couple of days and was out most of the time, so the space was perfect to come back to and relax. Ken, Nicole, the girls (and the pets!) were all gracious hosts – very kind and welcoming. And as I had to make a speedy exit from DC due to an impending blizzard in New York, they were completely understanding and welcomed me to stay, should transport routes be shut down. I would recommend this space to anyone looking for a comfortable space to relax in during their own DC trip, though particularly perfect for solo travellers and couples. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
