  • Joan was fantastic and the place was perfect for our group! We especially loved the deck!

  • Joan was an incredible host and her cottage was the perfect place to stay in Charlottesville!

  • Joan was a fantastic host! The suite was beautiful, clean, spacious, private, and well-stocked with the necessities (towels, bedding, pillows, etc.). Even though we were a group of five, Joan provided a cot and there was more than enough space for all of us. We were in town for a UVA reunion, so the location was perfect for our needs--very walkable to the Corner and Grounds (if you're willing to climb one big hill), or a cheap $5 cab ride. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

  • Joan was an incredible host. Our late night arrival to Charlottesville posed no problem for her and she even let us stay until early afternoon the day we checked out.

Waking up to the sun washing over the deck in the morning was wonderful. A short walk to Rugby Road and your plugged into all things UVA or a 5 minute drive and you are Downtown. I look forward to visiting Joan and C-Ville again real soon.

  • Great accommodations and a great host. Joan kept to herself but was available when we needed her (like when we locked ourselves out...). It really is a separate space. Just make sure to bring slippers!

  • Winston Cottage is a lovely, very comfortable ground level apartment well located in Charlottesville near the University and major shopping. Joan is a superb hostess, friendly, welcoming and efficient. I would happily return on mmy next visit to Charlottesville.

  • Lovely, don't hesitate to stay. Spacious, private, nicely decorated, great outdoor space. Wish we'd thought of this, and this house in particular, for all the years of travel to UVA while our son has been in grad school!

  • Joan lives in a fantastic neighborhood near the UVA campus. We loved our two night stay and hope that we have a chance to head back to Charlottesville to see more of the area and hopefully stay at Joan's home again. Two great bedrooms and private access to the rooms made this a great place to stay for the weekend. Not only is it a great place to stay, but Joan is also mailing me an item that I left behind. Thank you for the hospitality and the service!

After raising 3 children, serving as a legislative aide and running a catering business I've for the past 20-plus years been a residential Realtor. I grew up in the midwest, graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Madison with an economics major and journalism minor, both of which have been useful in my various career endeavors. Charlottesville, with its many arts and cultural opportunities and eclectic population has become the place I want to be. I live, within walking distance of the University of Virginia with my her dog Bo whose breed is "holy Terrier Benji Mix" and whose last residence was the local animal shelter.
