Four of us stayed at Joan's place for a long weekend in Charlottesville. The cottage is very clean, comfortable, and welcoming. Joan was a great host. She answered all of our questions quickly and made some great recommendations of things to do and places to eat in the area (I highly recommend The Alley Light). We were welcomed with a fantastic bottle of wine which didn't make it past the first night. As others have said, keep in mind that there is not a full kitchen, but there's plenty of coffee/tea and a fridge if you have leftovers or get take out.
I definitely recommend Joan's place.
Our stay was fabulous! What a perfect find in Charlottesville, particularly returning alumni! The cottage is adorable and so cozy. Best nights of sleep I've had in a long time! Joan left wine, soda, coffee, and water for us which was lovely. The neighborhood is beautiful and the house is within walking distance of campus, the corner, Rugby Road, and Bodos! We are already looking nice forward to our next visit and hope to rebook this place again and again!
Joan's cottage was lovely! We had a wonderful stay and she couldn't have been more accommodating. The set up was perfect and we loved the outdoor deck! Thank you again, Joan - we look forward to a return trip!
Joan is amazing and Winston Cottage couldn't be better. I was in Charlottesville for a friend's wedding and found Winston Cottage on Air BnB for myself + boyfriend and our two friends. It was perfect. It is a private apartment downstairs with tons of space. A great living room, two big bedrooms, a fully stocked bathroom (Joan even left us Burts Bees make-up remover!), and a great little kitchenette. Joan also let us leave a bit later in the day which was super helpful since our flights out of DC weren't until the afternoon.
Also, I want to note how clean the place is. Whenever I've stayed at other Air BnBs, I always wash all the dishes before I use them, etc. Winston Cottage was so perfectly clean and cared for that I didn't even bother, a big thing for the woman that insisted on 5-star hotels on her trip to SEA. :-)
The only downside was that we had to leave, we loved it so much! I'll definitely stay here the next time I'm in Charlottesville. It's right near UVA and an easy drive to the vineyards. If I could give it 10 stars I would!
Everything was wonderful! The house is immaculate and you thought of everything.
A lovely cottage - even better than described. Plan on having a car with you if you are staying here, though (although parking in front is easy). We had a great, relaxing weekend, a few extra amenities set out here and there added to the home-like feel, and without a doubt I would return. Joan was a very good host.
Joan's airbnb was exactly as pictured and a cute place to stay in a great location. It's a 5 min drive from the center of Charlottesville. The place has 2 queens, a small kitchen with coffee and espresso, and a living room and deck area. It was very comfortable for the 4 of us! Joan also left us a bottle of wine and a basket of bathroom products which was a really nice touch!
About the Host, Joan
After raising 3 children, serving as a legislative aide and running a catering business I've for the past 20-plus years been a residential Realtor. I grew up in the midwest, graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Madison with an economics major and journalism minor, both of which have been useful in my various career endeavors. Charlottesville, with its many arts and cultural opportunities and eclectic population has become the place I want to be. I live, within walking distance of the University of Virginia with my her dog Bo whose breed is "holy Terrier Benji Mix" and whose last residence was the local animal shelter.
