There are two bedrooms with queen beds and down comforters, a bath with double sinks, a large sitting room with flat screen TV and VCR, a kitchenette equipped for preparing light refreshments with refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven and coffee pot, but NO STOVE.
There is a private deck for your use only, right outside your door.
Cleaning/maid service once weekly for extended stays is included in the price of your room.
You'll find a bottle of wine, freshly roasted Shenendoah Joe's coffee, tea, cream and sugar when you come and if you want me to lay in any other continental breakfast basics just let me know.
Interaction with Guests
I'll be nearby if you need anything but won't intrude on your privacy.
Winston Cottage is located in a quiet residential neighborhood within a mile of the University of Virginia's cultural amenities and of the Downtown Mall with its many restaurants, galleries and theaters.
If you prefer not to drive The Rotunda at the University and University "corner" are a comfortable 15 minute walk away.
From there you can catch "The Trolly" running between UVa and the downtown mall.
Other Things to Note
UVa Graduation weekends require a minimum 3-night stay.
SORRY, DOGS NOT PERMITTED IN THE GUEST SPACE. No indoor smoking. Cleaning service once weekly for extended stays. Extended stays based on availability.
Joan was a great host -- very communicative and friendly prior to our arrival and then helpful as needed during our stay. We appreciated the flexible check-in and check-out times as well as the complimentary coffee and breakfast goodies!
Her beautiful cottage was just as described, located on a quiet residential street, just a little over a mile from the UVA Rotunda. Once you walk down the side of the house, the deck was beautiful, and inside was plenty of space for our group of 2 couples. There could be room for a fifth person if using the roll-away bed. The kitchenette was well stocked with cups, plates, and bowls -- and wine glasses to enjoy our purchases after a weekend winery tour. My only comment would be that if you are a light sleeper, be aware that you can sometimes hear the footsteps above you, coming from the upper level of the home. We had a great stay - thank you!
We loved staying at Winston Cottage! Joan was a great host and everything was as expected (or better) upon our arrival. We enjoyed delicious coffee and cream, as well as a bottle of wine, compliments of Joan, and I especially delighted in sitting out on the deck to drink my coffee in the mornings. The view of the backyard and trees was incredibly peaceful and I didn't want to leave! I also found it an easy and pleasant walk to the University area during Reunions. I would love to go back and hope I can stay at Winston Cottage again in the future!
Joan was very welcoming and available for questions. Very comfortable space, wonderful location within Charlottesville. The space was well lit and there was lots of room to spread out. Pleasant outdoor space as well. It was wonderful to have some meals and refreshments on the deck and we appreciated the view of her nicely landscaped backyard.
Joan also provided us with gourmet coffee and fresh cream, which was much appreciated that first morning after our late arrival the previous evening.
We had a wonderful stay at Winston Cottage - perfect location on a beautiful street. The rooms were as promised / photographed - very comfortable and perfect for our needs over the weekend. Joan is very friendly and was incredibly attentive to our needs. We would definitely stay here again!
Joan was fantastic and the place was perfect for our group! We especially loved the deck!
Joan was an incredible host and her cottage was the perfect place to stay in Charlottesville!
Joan was a fantastic host! The suite was beautiful, clean, spacious, private, and well-stocked with the necessities (towels, bedding, pillows, etc.). Even though we were a group of five, Joan provided a cot and there was more than enough space for all of us. We were in town for a UVA reunion, so the location was perfect for our needs--very walkable to the Corner and Grounds (if you're willing to climb one big hill), or a cheap $5 cab ride. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
After raising 3 children, serving as a legislative aide and running a catering business I've for the past 20-plus years been a residential Realtor. I grew up in the midwest, graduated from The University of Wisconsin-Madison with an economics major and journalism minor, both of which have been useful in my various career endeavors. Charlottesville, with its many arts and cultural opportunities and eclectic population has become the place I want to be. I live, within walking distance of the University of Virginia with my her dog Bo whose breed is "holy Terrier Benji Mix" and whose last residence was the local animal shelter.
