The space

The Garden Ohana 2 bdrm is one of 5 units at the Wailuku Guesthouse, a licensed and founded in 2001. Centrally located in Wailuku, exploring the island is easy from here, and is in walking distance to restaurants, Coffee, and other amenities. We serve no meals.

We are a legally operating vacation rental with a current County of Maui operating permit. Be sure that wherever you book has one.The GARDEN OHANA is our 2 bedroom unit with a living room just off the pool that sleeps 4-6 - just right for families. With air conditioning, a King bed in the master bedroom, two full beds in the Keiki (kids) room, washer & dryer in a common laundry room and a stone lined shower room this is our largest most accommodating unit. Full size refrigerator, microwave oven, coffee maker, bean grinder, rice cooker, ice maker, dining area for four . The Garden Ohana unit has AC. Small living room with flat screen TV. Both bedrooms have TVs. Flat screen in the master bedroom and a Mickey Mouse TV in the second bedroom. Beach chairs, boogie boards coolers and an assortment of snorkel gear, free wifi and parking are also included. The WAILUKU GUESTHOUSE is one of Maui's oldest legally recognized vacation rentals offering clean, affordable rooms for travelers for over 17 years now. We have 5 different units with private bathrooms ranging from one with a queen bed starting at $129 a night to this two bedroom unit from $279 plus tax. Summer rates drop.

Amenities include a 40 foot pool, fast and free WiFi, and free chairs, towels and coolers to take to the beach. We're located in Wailuku town which is not a tourist area but has old Hawaii charm and great local food. More importantly it's minutes from the airport and centrally located on the island so it's easier to explore the far reaches of this beautiful island. No airplanes or noise, AirBnB Price INCLUDES applicable Hawaii Taxes of 13.416%. Mahalo for considering us! (Maui B&B Permit #BBWK (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN), Hawaii State GE/TAT License W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN))

Guests have access to our outdoor common area that includes 3 dining tables, a gas bbq, lounging chairs aside our 40 ft. saltwater pool. There is a pool basketball hoop and a foosball table under the cabanas. Foosball table has quiet hours since it gets rather loud. They may also visit the aviary which houses a Greenwing Macaw and a Red headed Mexican Amazon. Please check if you are booking with children.

I always greet my guests if I am home or it is not too late. All guest rooms have directions to their rooms and access to their keys in a lock box near their room. I am usually available to answer guest questions most of the day. I do not serve any meals but bake often and share with the guests.

Our neighborhood is like an older Hawaiian town. Wailuku is after all, the county seat of Maui. It's a walking town too. Just two blocks up there are an assortment of shops, eateries and boutiques. Six tennis courts are around the corner. They are free and lit at night. The islands best macaroons are found down the street at Maui Macaroons and Artisan Market.

Public transportation is just a block up on Wells Street. The bus is $2. Taxis from the airport run about $25 plus a tip of $3-$5.

Since we often have little guests on our property we have carabiners that latch all of our gates. We ask that guests replace them after passing through a gate.

Guest access

All Guests, including the Mill room, Plantation room, Wasabi suite and the Hibiscus room all have access to our common area. The common area is home to large saltwater pool with waterfalls, three dining tables, a large gas BBQ and lots of lounge chairs. Then for the beach there are beach chairs, boogie boards, coolers, sun umbrellas, and an assortment of snorkel gear.

Interaction with guests

We are a family and often are out. However, we always try to greet our guests and show them around and answer any questions they may have. I'm often around during the day to also assist and give advice to guests. A great guestbook has all sorts of dining information and where to shop etc.

Other things to note

Guests will receive a detailed email with arrival instructions so if they arrive late they can easily get to their room. W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

Holiday on Maui? You could spend $$$ on a resort hotel, or find this cozy spot to shop locally, cook meals with tropical fare, and be within minutes' drive of most fun spots. Our top recommends are snorkeling trips from Maalea Harbor and dining in Paia at Hana Ranch Provisions. Oh, and the Surfing Goat ranch (chevre, choco, etc.) up country on the way to Kula Lodge restaurant!

I'm glad you had a great time on a budget. We try really hard to provide clean affordable accommodations to our guests. No stove but an electric griddle, rice cooker, toaster oven, microwave, full size refrigerator with ice maker and large three burner gas grill for poolside dining at one of our three tables. Again, Mahalo for choosing to stay with The Wailuku Guesthouse

Had a great time at the garden ohana! Home was clean and tidy and the check in was a breeze. The baked goods were very nice to have, and overall the stay was great! Only two things I would note are that there is not an actual oven/stove, which we didn't realize before doing some food shopping. Griddle and microwave oven took care of most of those needs though. Also, the garden ohana may not be the best to stay in if you are rather tall, there are a couple spots with low ceiling beams that are easy to forget about and whack your head on if you aren't careful. :) Also the walls are relatively thin so noises can carry into the other units when you don't mean to. Had a great time, thanks for everything!

Glad you had a great time. Our permit doesn't allow for a stove in any of our units. But BBQ outside has a side burner and a strong grill. Glad to hear you had a great time. Sorry about the beam. You must be very tall

We had a great experience at Maureen's beautiful guest house. Her place slept all 6 of us perfectly! It was clean and tidy and had everything we needed. I liked the location of the town wailuku. It's a great central location and easy access to everything. Maureen surprised us several times w/ her tasty baked goods waiting for us when we got in!!! I would definitely recommend this place to a friend! A great Hawaiian experience overall :)

Loved it! We stayed a week with our almost 4 year-old and the Wailuku Guesthouse (Garden Ohana unit) was perfect for us. Maureen was a fabulous host. In addition to near-daily homemade baked goods, she was extremely helpful answering questions. The unit was perfect for our needs. Both bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to cook for ourselves - which we did often. There is no oven/stove, but between the hot plate/griddle, microwave, and toaster oven, we were covered in the cooking department. We especially appreciated all the beach equipment Maureen provided - beach chairs, snorkels, beach towels, bag, coolers, etc. The pool was also a great treat, especially for our son who loved playing in the pool after playing at the beach all day. Also, a word about location. We loved that the Wailuku guesthouse was near, but not directly in, a major tourist town. It was quiet (which we loved), but still incredibly convenient to all parts of the island. Seriously, a 15-minute drive will get you to a bunch of different and excellent beaches and attractions. We went to every corner of the island, and Wailuku is pretty much as centrally located as you could get. Please note, it is a downstairs unit, so you will hear house noise. However, we were not late party animals and neither were the rest of the house guests and residents. Really was not a big deal. Thanks for the great visit, Maureen. We hope we can come back soon!

This is a great property. A house central to Maui with a pool and close to everything? Absolutely. The Garden Ohana has two bedrooms which worked perfect for us. Comfortable and clean. Washer/Dryer. Grocery store a mile away and coffee shops to walk to. We're looking to stay here again in the future!

Originally from Chicago, IL. Lived for about 17 years in Long Beach CA where I attended CSULB and UOP. Finally settling in Maui in 2000 with my husband that is a partner in a CPA firm here on the island. I enjoy talking with guests, assisting them in any way I can, bike riding, paddling (when I have time or energy left), going to the beach, baking, traveling and raising our son.
