Welcome to Your Mansion in the City!
The Mansard Suite is a TWO BEDROOM, ONE BATH Jack and Jill suite on the third floor of an owner-occupied private residence. This is my home, but because of it's size and layout, I can provide the level of privacy, freedom to come and go, and professionalism you would experience in a guest house or B&B. The historic neighborhood is very walkable and convenient to public transport. Please review the photos and read the description as this is a unique space.
PLEASE DISREGARD ABOVE SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS SECTION.
This is actually two separate bedrooms joined by a private bath (Jack & Jill Suite is the technical term).
The Mansard suite is a two bedroom suite which shares a single private bath. The unique bathroom is actually two rooms. The tub/shower is separated from the half bath, making it more convenient to share a bathroom. (Please see the blue area of the floor plan in the photos.) Bedroom 2 has a Queen size bed, Bedroom 3 is a Full. Fresh Towels and linens will be there for you when you arrive. There is also a mini fridge outside your door with a Brita filtered water pitcher and complimentary soft drinks.
DO YOU HAVE DIFFICULTY CLIMBING STAIRS? - Please note:
This is room is on the third floor of a house with very tall ceilings. While the staircase has a gentile rise, it is 24 steps up to the second floor, and an additional 20 to the third, almost double that of a standard modern house.
NEED MORE SPACE?
Please see my listing "1BR Apt. in Mount Vernon w/Parking". This consists a complete apartment including kitchen, living room and laundry (see floor plan in photos). Booking this as well will essentially give you the entire third floor of the house.
ABOUT THE HOUSE:
This is an owner occupied, three story townhouse with an in-law's apartment and a two bedroom/one bath suite on the third floor, and two large bedrooms with private baths on the second floor. Links for the listings for these spaces can be found in my profile. I am LGBT welcoming. I do not serve breakfast, however, there are plenty of options within walking distance, and around the city, that I would be happy to recommend.
When booking The Mansard Suite, you get more than just a place to sleep. All guests are welcome to enjoy the entire first floor of the house. Relax and enjoy a book, or access our Wifi network with your portable device, in the front or rear parlors.
The butler’s pantry, located off the dining room, is set up as a kitchenette for guests to store food, prepare snacks or small meals. There is a Keurig coffee machine with a variety of K-cups, milk, creamer, sugar, etc. Tea bags, soft drinks, fresh fruit, and breakfast bars are also available here.
Interaction with guests
I'll be here to greet you when you arrive, explain a few things about the house and your room, then I'll let you settle in.
I live here, but it's a really big house, so after I check you in, you may not see me much until check out. As you will not be passing through my personal living space, you are fee to come and go as you please. However, I am always a cell phone call away if you need anything. When I do see guests, I am happy to talk about my house, my neighborhood, and my city, if it seems to me that you are open to that. Otherwise I'lll let you go about your business.
Other things to note
Please let me know if you are allergic to feathers, or fragrances in laundry detergent. We can make adjustments to accommodate you.
This suite is designed to accommodate either two individuals, or a couple traveling together. There are two bedrooms, two beds (one queen, one full).
No smoking in the house, not even out the window.
Check in is after 3pm, by appointment.
Check out is by 11am or by prior arrangement.
As you will not be passing through my personal living space to get to your room, you may come and go as you please. Just be considerate of other guests in the house when coming in late. While the walls and floors are thick, they are not sound proof.
The first floor is open to all guests staying here. Your are welcome to relax and quietly enjoy these spaces. You are not allowed to bring outside guests into the house without prior approval.
Please resist the temptation to explore. I know old houses can be intriguing, however do remember that this is my home. When outside your room, please consider doors and drawers that are closed, private and off limits. Guests are not welcome in the basement.
KITCHEN USE: The butler's pantry, off the dining room, is set up as a kitchenette for you to store food, make coffee, and cook small meals. This kitchen is for guests, you will not have to share it with me. There is a small refrigerator, gas cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, and everything you need to cook and serve. Please wash whatever you use before you depart.
PARKING: One off street parking space, behind the house, comes with the suite. If you will be using this space, please let me know and I'll email a map guiding you to my parking area. Also, please let me know the make and color of your car so that I know it's you that's parking back there.

I'm a burnt out graphic designer starting a new life as an Airbnb host. Larry and I have put a lot of ourselves into the restoration of our historic home. Sadly, Larry is no longer with us, but I will continue to share what we had created together with others. We were both very proud of our city and our neighborhood and I look forward to sharing with guests all they have to offer. This is a Gay household where everyone is welcome.
