The Space

This is the SoBro Guest House Located in the South Bronx aka SoBro, New York, a hustling & bustling trendy and hip neighborhood. Just search SoBro Bronx, NY and you will see what the area has to offer. We are walking distance (1 Block) to the Antique District which boasts an assortment of Cafes, Lounges, Bars, Art Galleries and Antique shops. Alexander's Bar on Alexander Ave, The Piano Factory, Bruckner Bar and Grill, DJ EMBE just to name a few. You can walk to Manhattan over the Willis Ave Bridge which is located on the corner. Or jump on the # 6 Train and you are only one stop away from the City of NY! The # 6 train is located approximately 4 blocks away or a 5 minute walk. Yankee Stadium is about a half hour walk or 10 minute train ride. And if you don't feel like going to NYC you have lots of shopping right here in the neighborhood. The Guest House is easily accessible from JFK, Newark, and La Guardia Airports via the Metro so you do not have to waste money on taking a taxi.

I would advise that only the adventurous and more open minded stay here. We are ideally located very close to Manhattan. The neighborhood is eclectic and vibrant and once you step outside the Guest House your neighbors will be real New Yorker's, not tourists. This may be enticing to some but scary to others... so take it for what its worth. Highly recommend if you are looking for a true New York experience with real New Yorkers! Dont take our word for it... Just read the reviews and see for yourself!

The building itself is very safe and secure. Ray lives on premise and can deal with any issues should they arise. The studio is private with your own lock and key. Fresh bed linens and towels are provided. You have your own bathroom and kitchenette with mini fridge. We have long term international students and tourists staying with us from all over the world. • We stayed here April 2-6, 2014. Our flight got in late (11pm) and all we had to do was call Ray and he let us in. Check in was a breeze. Ray helped with our bags, gave us the key and wifi access and that was it. We felt very safe in the area both day and night. We would grab a bite to eat at the local SoBro neighbourhood stores before we went on the 6 subway. El Viejo Gran Cafe sells the best beef empanadas (beside Little Cesars) and we would eat that for breakfast while riding the subway. Buy water for $1 in SoBro because in the city it is $2-$3. The studio was a short walk to the subway. Buy the $30 unlimited Metro pass for bus and subway at the airport. We had a quiet good nights sleep every night and there was enough storage space to keep your clothes. Very safe to keep your belongings in the room. No one bothered us. It was nice and warm at night. Studio is spacious compared to small tiny tight rooms in other hotels. We had a late flight going home and Ray let us check out late so that we can spend more time in the City without lugging our bags around. This place is awesome and a great price! It's right off the 6 which takes you straight into the City. Definitely a gem. Peaceful place to get a good night sleep after a long day out in NYC. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit NYC.

  • My story's short -- I was just here for a night, and basically just to sleep -- but the room was clean and comfortable and all went according to plan. Recommended.

  • The place was clean and consistent with our expectations. The fact that the place was in South Bronx was not a problem at all as it is perfectly linked with Manhattan (line 6) and very close to the subway.
The hood is more than safe and my boyfriend and I did not have any trouble at any time of the day or the night.
Ray was really friendly and available for us.
We would definitely recommend the SoBro experience for anyone that doesn't want to spend a fortune in housing and want to enjoy a true NYC trip!

  • We enjoyed our 2 week stay at the SoBro guest house. Both Ray and Greg were prompt and helpful when we inevitably got lost trying to find the building, and Ray was available on the few occasions we had questions. The apartment’s written description was very accurate, and it was actually more spacious than it appeared in the pictures. While I am not sure that I would stay there alone, I felt comfortable enough walking around the neighborhood with a friend. As the building is near a highway, we could hear cars at night, but it did not prevent us from sleeping. The apartment was pretty close to two subway stations, which made trips into the heart of the city convenient. There are many good restaurants in the area, too, in addition to grocery and dollar stores.

This room also had plenty of storage. There was a set of draws and also a place to hang clothes. While it was nice to have a kitchenette, there were not many plates to put meals on for later. We did, however, have plenty of towels and a room heater, which was a huge asset when it started to snow. This apartment suited our needs, and was quite affordable.

  • Staying at Ray's was great! Yes, the studio is in the bronx... and yes, they said to stay here if you have an open mind and are adventurous. However, the location is not that bad. Only a few minutes walk to the subway, we never afraid or worried walking late at night. The place is very secure which has a code and your own key to the studio. The studio itself is a lot better than it looks on the pictures. Very clean, ac/ heat/ kitchenette with plates, silverware, stove, pots and pans, refrigerator and microwave. The hosts were very nice and there if you needed anything. The only downside to the studio was the watre pressure in the bathroom, made it very difficult for us women to take showers and wash our hair. Very little water comes out of the showerhead. Other than that, I do recommend this place to others, and will definitely stay there again. The price is great and it is very close to the city.

  • This is NYC's best kept secret! The subway is a few blocks away and in 15 minutes you're in mid town.
Very clean, updated, secure apartment. Looking to go back soon.

  • We had a very pleasant stay in the apartment. Ray was very helpful, welcoming and friendly and he was always on hand if we needed anything. The room was clean, with everything we required, it was also a good size for NY. The guest house was very close to the subway, therefore it was extremely easy to get into the centre of Manhattan in only a few minutes. Thanks Ray for making our stay a pleasant one.

  • The SoBro guest house was very nice. That were very accommodating with early checkin and late checkout. Ray lives on the property if you have any questions. Also Martin and Greg are both available via telephone. The front door has a pin access lock. Which is very secure. Each apt has its own key. The apartment was nicely furnished. We received extra towels without even asking. The kitchen was stocked with pots and pans, glassware and dishes. The 6 train is about 4 blocks away. The 2 train is about 10. Or you can take a quick walk over the bridge into Harlem. I would definitely stay here again. Very clean. Air conditioning was on when we arrived.

  • Pros:
The apartment was clean and cozy, I would say it looks better in person.
It was like 7 minutes away from the subway.
The host -Ray- was very nice.

    Cons:
It is not a place to get lost. I did, I thought I was at the right place and a man that was walking by told me not to go into that place because it was a crack house, it was a block away from the correct address.
A day after that an old lady advised me not to walk in the neighborhood at night.
