Interaction with Guests
Our host in Cabo Pulmo will meet you when you arrive. He is a wealth of information about the area, things to do, places to go. He is available throughout your stay, but does not live on the property.
There may be other guests in the main house which is on the same property. You will share the driveway entrance with other guests, if any.
Cabo Pulmo is famous for its coral reef with world-class scuba diving & snorkeling. There are many beaches nearby, most of them are practically deserted. Other activities include kayaking and whale watching. Although Cabo Pulmo is located in the Cabo Pulmo Marine Reserve where fishing is not allowed, fishing trips can be arranged nearby.
Cabo Pulmo is mostly vacation homes. There is lots to do here if you love ocean activities, and several restaurants, but almost no stores. There are several good restaurants in town. You will have to shop for groceries before coming to Cabo Pulmo.
Most people rent a car to get here because there is no public transportation or buses into Cabo Pulmo. Taxi service can be arranged to and from the airport, but is about as expensive as renting a car for a week. In town, everything is within walking distance, though the best snorkeling beach is a 10 minute drive out of town.
Other Things to Note
Cabo Pulmo is one and a half (1.5) hours from the Los Cabos airport - however there is no bus service into Cabo Pulmo. You will need your own transportation.
NO BLOW DRYERS or HAIR DRYERS ALLOWED (sorry to yell, but it is very important). The house is completely solar powered, and dryers require too much concentrated energy. They can seriously damage the solar equipment. You will lose your security deposit if you use them.
-No smoking indoors.
- Well behaved dogs may be acceptable, but must be approved of at the time of renting. Extra, one-time $20 fee.
- All guests (and pets) must be disclosed at the time of renting.
-Please wash all dishes, leave them out to dry, leave furniture where you found it, and leave the key inside with the door locked and windows closed when you leave.
The Casita is magnificent. Its colors, in and out, are very beautiful giving the whole place a fairytale-like atmosphere. The garden definitely contributes to that feeling, with its many gorgeous, aromatic flowers that serve as home to countless, strikingly beautiful birds with colors like those of the house - bright red, yellow and green. You will wake up to the songs of the birds in the morning and at night you will enjoy one of the most clear views of the stars.
Karl was very nice and welcoming and provided all the information about the Garden Casita and Cabo Pulmo we needed to effortlessly find the place as well as grocery stores and restaurants.
The beach and snorkeling in Cabo Pulmo is great.
A definite must is Arbolito - an amazing beach 5km (15 min driving) from the casita - great for swimming as there are almost no waves and snorkeling starts just off of the beach (to the right of where you can swim)
- If you are going in July (and whatever the hot months are) be prepared that it is going to be hot and there is no AC (as pointed out in the description), the ceiling fan helps though.
- A few of the windows don't have nets so to prevent bugs from coming in just keep them closed.
We are already planning our return to this amazing spot. The Casita is perfect. The bed is very comfortable. The garden and birds are the best part. We spent hours sitting out on the shady little patio watching Orioles, Cactus Wrens, and Cardinals. The location was easy to find, and the town was just our speed. If you want to go for hikes, swim on secluded beaches, cook your own meals, and wake up with the birds, this is the place for you (and the birds do wake up early!). We rented a car from BBB (local, reasonable, and right next to the airport), picked up our groceries at Soriana, and made it to Cabo Pulmo in under 2 hours. Karl came around each morning with his cute terrier, Sammy, and suggested great hikes and beaches and had the inside scoop on local restaurants (of which there are only a couple).
We felt extremely welcomed and had every accommodation necessary in the Garden Casita. Karl was friendly and knowledgeable and helped make our stay lovely. The casita was just what we hoped for and expected from the site and Karl's letter. We really enjoyed the birds, the hikes in the mountains, and especially the snorkeling off the beach of Cabo Pulmo! Thanks!
Amazing little casita in Cabo Pulmo!! The weather was cold and cloudy, but the warm and cozy casita kept our morale up and happy. Thanks so much for a truly remote and relaxing couple of nights!
We had a lovely time at the Garden casita in Cabo Pulmo. To me this place epitomizes heaven, waking up to the sounds of roosters crowing, watching the geckos scurry and looking up at the palm frond, palapa ceiling. The colors of the casita are cheerful. The huge garden creates a great habitat for many birds. And all within walking distance to the only coral reef in North America. Everything was very comfortable and the host is a pleasure to communicate with.
About the Host, Janning
We love Baja California, and especially Cabo Pulmo, because it's quiet, relaxing, and way off the beaten path. The water is warm, the surf is excellent, scuba diving is extraordinary, the food is outstanding, and the people are friendly. This little casita is on a larger property that is our dream house, our someday retirement house.
We both work in agriculture. Scott is manager of a vegetable seed production company and I do organic inspections. We live in Chile at the moment, but are looking forward to coming back to Baja.
We have a wonderful couple, Karl and Kimmie, who will welcome you to the casita and make sure you have everything you need and all your questions are answered. And don't worry if you don't speak Spanish...they are from the US and speak perfect English!
