About This Listing
This bright second floor apartment features a large deck with amazing views of Rochester Mountain, Mount Cushman, and Braintree Mountain. The sunny living space contains a full and outfitted kitchen, a full bath with tub/shower, and a comfortable bedroom with a queen size bed. The apartment is attached to a family home, but has a separate entrance and plenty of parking. We are located at the end of a dead-end road on four lovely acres, just 2 miles from Route 100. Wireless DSL internet is available, as well as a TV/DVD player, but no cable access.
Mike is a furnituremaker and works out of his woodshop here on Sawmill Hill. He spends his free time kayaking local whitewater and backcountry skiing out the back door. Carrie is an education administrator in area schools, and is an avid runner and XC skier. Our boys Henry (5) and Porter (3) help out with our pigs, chickens, garden, and firewood .
Our place is 4 miles from Rochester, a quintessential Vermont town with a large village green, several hip cafes & restaurants, bucolic views, and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Nearby attractions include
- Green Mountain National Forest and the Long Trail
-Short drives to Killington, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and the Middlebury Snowbowl, as well as unlimited backcountry skiing
-Excellent canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and fishing on the upper White River and its tributaries
-Extensive local and regional biking- both road and mountain- and a legendary bike shop right in town.
-Lots of local art: pottery, glass, jewelry, wood, theatre, live music, writers, fine art
-Short scenic drives to neighoring areas: the Mad River Valley and Capitol District, the Champlain Valley, and the Connecticut River Valley
You don't have to be that 'outdoorsy' to really enjoy this place. If you have a sturdy pair of shoes and clothing appropriate to the season, you can walk any number of miles of quiet dirt road with just the occasional passing car to punctuate a world of meadows, forests, barns, and far-off mountains. A chair-and-book combination can be another good option, on the sunny deck or in the shade of an old maple tree.
Guests are welcome to use the wireless internet connection....DSL has recently come to our back road so we are saying goodbye and good riddance to satellite internet! Our new connection should allow guests to stream video content from the web.
Please switch off the exterior light when you are in for the night. The motion sensor that controls it is sometimes triggered by nearyby tree branches swaying in the breeze....on off on off on off etc :)
No smoking of any kind in the apartment please. On the deck is ok.
No pets in the apartment please....if you are travelling with a pet, ask about our utility/storage room- it is on the first floor beneath the apartment and is a fine place for a quiet dog to spend the night.
We just returned from a wonderful weekend in Rochester staying at this Green Mt apt. The space was absolutely perfect. Beautiful, clean, comfortable and with gorgeous views of the mountains and surrounding land. We were welcomed warmly by Mike and baby daughter, Lucy, and given chairs for the deck and even fresh eggs for breakfast! It was so quiet and peaceful and the soft clucking of the chickens only added to the tranquility! We were for tunate to have clear skies both nights and a perfect spot to watch the stars and full moon. The apartment is also very convenient to the town center and hikes (and skiing) near by. Thank you so much for a perfect stay!
The apartment was perfect for our weekend away. Slopes were close, apartment was quaint and cozy and views were fantastic! Carrie and mike were great hosts and responded quick to any questions I had. Thanks again for the wonderful experience!
Great apartment and greats hosts. Everything was as described. We had a wonderful skiing weekend!
Highly recommended in any season.
Carrie and Mike are super nice family. We enjoyed our stay at Rochester VT. Everything was great. Clean, cozy. View is absolutely amazing from apartment! Perfect getaway from the city closer to nature.
Also we love Rochester. They have very cute book-store-coffee-shoop on 100 road. Every Friday and Saturday evening band singing there and food is very tasty and healthy.
We went snowboarding to Sugarbush with is 30-40 min to drive and we was very lucky with weather, almost every day was snowing!!!
I will recommend to stay with Carrie and Mike
Unfortunately I didnt get to meet my hosts until the last minute of my my last day. We were out being active and dead tired when we would return.
But I must say their place is just what the doctor ordered for us concrete jungle dwellers. The area is absolutely beautiful, serene and quiet. The view from the balcony is very nice and a perfect spot for a hot cup of tea and a sunrise. Definitely would return and would recommend.
We had a great stay at the Green Mountain Apartment. The space is very charming and spotless, with everything you need for a nice getaway. The view is as lovely as the pictures promised! Highly recommended!
About the Host, Carrie
We are a hard-workin', hard-playin', outdoors-oriented family. We like the peace and quiet here, we like growing our own food, we like the opportunities to ski, bike, paddle, and walk that this place has to offer.
