This bright second floor apartment features a large deck with amazing views of Rochester Mountain, Mount Cushman, and Braintree Mountain. The sunny living space contains a full and outfitted kitchen, a full bath with tub/shower, and a comfortable bedroom with a queen size bed. The apartment is attached to a family home, but has a separate entrance and plenty of parking. We are located at the end of a dead-end road on four lovely acres, just 2 miles from Route 100. Wireless DSL internet is available, as well as a TV/DVD player, but no cable access.
Mike is a furnituremaker and works out of his woodshop here on Sawmill Hill. He spends his free time kayaking local whitewater and backcountry skiing out the back door. Carrie is an education administrator in area schools, and is an avid runner and XC skier. Our boys Henry (5) and Porter (3) help out with our pigs, chickens, garden, and firewood .
Our place is 4 miles from Rochester, a quintessential Vermont town with a large village green, several hip cafes & restaurants, bucolic views, and many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Nearby attractions include
- Green Mountain National Forest and the Long Trail
-Short drives to Killington, Sugarbush, Mad River Glen, and the Middlebury Snowbowl, as well as unlimited backcountry skiing
-Excellent canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and fishing on the upper White River and its tributaries
-Extensive local and regional biking- both road and mountain- and a legendary bike shop right in town.
-Lots of local art: pottery, glass, jewelry, wood, theatre, live music, writers, fine art
-Short scenic drives to neighoring areas: the Mad River Valley and Capitol District, the Champlain Valley, and the Connecticut River Valley
You don't have to be that 'outdoorsy' to really enjoy this place. If you have a sturdy pair of shoes and clothing appropriate to the season, you can walk any number of miles of quiet dirt road with just the occasional passing car to punctuate a world of meadows, forests, barns, and far-off mountains. A chair-and-book combination can be another good option, on the sunny deck or in the shade of an old maple tree.
Had a great stay here! Made the request on a Friday and heard back right away for check in the following day. Only 30 min from Killington Mtn so it worked out perfectly. Thanks!
Our family (two adults, a four year old and a one year old) stayed at Carrie and Mike's apartment and had a great time! I can't say enough about how accommodating and friendly they are. We were very comfortable in their apartment. They had all of the utensils and pots/pans that we needed to make our own dinner and breakfast. The views are spectacular and the town of Rochester is pretty darn awesome. Our older daughter went sledding and skiing on the hill behind the house, which was a nice bonus. Mike's woodworking is also really impressive, we picked up a great cutting board. We look forward to staying with them again!
The location and view was incredible, so peaceful and quiet. The apartment was great as well, the perfect size for two. We saw Mike briefly when we arrived and had no other contact until we left. It felt like we had our own separate space entirely. If you're visiting during the winter and renting a car I'd recommend an AWD. This was Mikes advice to us, which we didn't listen to and had a few driving slips in our small 2-wheel drive rental, nothing major but enough to make us concerned about driving in the snow.
We had a very nice stay at Carrie and Mike's house. The apartment is lovely and the hosts were great. We went skiing at Killington most days, which is gorgeous 35 minute drive down route 100.
This air bnb was a last minute decision, and boy am I glad we picked it! The apartment was fully equip with a full kitchen - perfect for making breakfast on a chilly winter morning! The heating system was great as well (crucial in winter!). We arrived at the apartment in the evening so we had no idea of the views awaiting us the next morning - they were astounding! We got to watch a glorious sunrise across the mountainous valley, definitely one of the most beautiful ones I've ever seen! We would come back again! Mike was very helpful and made sure that we were settled and happy with our stay. Thanks again!
Mike and Carrie were great hosts. The apartment is beautiful, could not ask for more from our Vermont vacation. The place was set up with coffee and basics so it made it super easy to cook. Great location and great place.
Our stay was an overall lovely, peaceful experience. The view was beautiful and the apartment was very clean and cozy. It was a great base for some wonderful day trips to waterfalls, kayaking and hiking. Mike was very friendly and accommodating and they left a basket of movies for our viewing pleasure. The kitchen was set up well for any cooking we wanted to do and the bed was comfortable with plenty of blankets to stay warm on a chilly Vermont night. We highly recommend it and would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.
Carrie and Mike were very kind and attentive.
There was a power cut the day we arrived, so Mike stayed up till we got there around 11pm to help us into the apartment with a torch.
The power was back on the following morning, and the view from the apartment in daylight was lovely. A great base to stay in for exploring Vermont.
what a lovely apartment. Carrie was very responsive. The apartment was extremely clean, and the kitchen was well equipped. We were able to bake cookies on the cookie sheet, and make tea and look out over the gorgeous views of the fall foliage. The porch was large and a perfect place to hang out. Many blankets were provided. Towels and toiletries were available in case you forgot anything, and there was even a hairdryer, which I appreciated :) Very cozy, and just as described. Thanks for the peaceful stay.
Loved Loved the out of the way location on a country road surrounded by the gorgeous Green Mountains. View can't be beat! Comfy second floor apartment had a lovely deck for star gazing. Enjoyed being able to check on the chickens free ranging around the farm. A few shelves/hooks in the bathroom would make it easier to deal with toiletries etc. Always appreciate coffee and milk in the fridge. Sheets seemed due for a replacement - they'd obviously been washed many times and were pilled in places. Pillows could also use an upgrade. We appreciated being able to cook our own country breakfast before hitting the road.
