Palm house was a wonderful place to stay, the host ketut was a lovely man who accommodated us to all Our needs, he was very friendly and came to check on us regularly. We stayed nearly 2 weeks with or little one year old daughter and found it very relaxing. The cleaner Made was a lovely lady keeping the place up to scatch and was great with our daughter . The space in the accommodation seems much bigger than what you see in the photo's . You will find plenty of places to eat in pemuteran with café vespa having one of the finest cappuccino around. It's about a 20 min walk into ubud all down hill, just make sure you go the right way as we first took the long way on a dangerous bendy road. If you need a driver ask for yudana a taxi driver who's actually more like a guide...Thanks again for the presents for mila ketut...julian ronja and mila.
This is a nice and very clean house in a wonderful garden close to artistic and local communities. Walking to Ubud centre is nice and easy. Great restaurants in the rise fields on the way. The local host is an artist. He was a great host and extremely helpful and was always assisting when needed, for example when you need to find a nice swimming pool.
We rented the magic Penestenan house for 3 weeks and absolutely loved our stay. The house is in a fantastic neighborhood just outside of Ubud; it takes about 25 minutes to walk into town. The neighborhood has lots of great cafes, winding paths and lots of greenery. For us it was ideal to be in a quieter, greener spot that was still close
to the busy parts of the area.
The house itself is up a set of stone stairs, making it hidden from the road and giving it a very private feel. The yard has lots of grassy space and tropical fruit trees. The bedroom is beautiful and the air conditioning was very nice to have!
Anna's staff were all very kind, friendly, and welcoming. Anna let us check in far before the arrival time and the house's caretaker, Ketut, even came to meet us and show us the house at 3:00 am when our plane arrived. Wayan and Made came to clean the house each morning and brought fresh towels and sheets weekly as well. We were very grateful for their help! Thank you!
The magic house is exactly (email hidden)gic. penestanan is the place to stay in ubud. Cafe despi down the street and Collin has opened a new juice bar a block away. The house was emaculate and ketut is an amazingly nice man who checked me in and out. Beautiful garden to yourself for yoga
The house is quite nice and the area is very pretty. Ketut (the manager) was attentive and Made (the 'cleaner'/plant waterer) was very friendly to our son. The kitchen is quite well equipped and the bed is comfortable and has a mosquito net (which only has a few small holes). However, there are some problems.
The house is up cliff with a very steep set of crumbly steps. On my way down with the luggage when we were leaving, one of the steps broke and I fell (just a couple of steps, but I caught myself balancing over a dangerous drop). We were travelling with our 11-month old son (which means lots of luggage). The listing describes the place as kid-friendly. It's not. It also lists parking on premise - this is misleading. There is street parking at the bottom of the cliff.
The listing describes the place as private and boasts that you won't be disturbed. When we arrived, there was a man working in the garden. Made (the 'cleaner') was very kind to our son, but didn't do any cleaning (the place was mostly clean - some of the kitchen implements were a bit grimy and there was a half used bar of soap in the bathroom - she did water the plants quite a lot). As the house is basically one room with big windows (attached bathroom - to get to the kitchen, you have to go through the garden), you have to keep the curtains shut for any privacy.
When we arrived, there was some kind of event at a local gym which meant that we were disturbed by loud cheesy techno. It played all day till quite late (I was assured that it only happens once a week, it did play for a few hours on another occasion).
The listing describes the distance to Bridges (a restaurant on the way into Ubud) as 400 metres. After walking it, I checked and according to a distance calculator on google, it's 950 metres. These metres involve a lot of steps - quite a jaunt if you have a baby boy on your back (or any sort of mobility issue). We did walk into Ubud while we were there and it's not too much of a jaunt, but it's not as close as the listing states.
If I had visited 10 years ago, I'm sure the issues wouldn't have bothered me, but I would not recommend it.
Anna's magic house in Penestanan is just that - magic. Beautiful location, beautiful little house, beautiful garden. No problems with communications between Anna and I. Quick response time with helpful information. Thank you Anna for sharing your lovely house.
