I am not a tourist, I am an explorer. I like to dwell in a place and get to know the quirks, qualities and caring local people and Place Spirit of unique natural environments. So--as a Host I love to provide the same thing I seek as a traveler: a dedicated inspirational place to pause and find re-Creative peace for artists, pilgrims, nature lovers, folks in love and out-of-the-box individuals and couples to share in our wonderful space.
I call our unique and whimsical style--"MoBoho" --Mountain Bohemian.
So am I! Crested Butte is not like any other mountain ski town in North America. Local folks are independent, work hard in order to play, love to dress up in costumes for every occasion, love to protect and celebrate Nature, Life, Love and Liberty! As a community we share a casual, friendly love for this Paradise and its natural resources.
Wise Acre is named this for a very personal reason. When I was young, and growing up in Mid-Century rural Illinois, I was often scolded for being a "wise acre." This meant that for a little girl, I was "too creative, curious, outspoken and visionary." Thank Heavens things have changed--and I have not!
I am pleased to offer this sanctuary, workshop and retreat compound for my private practice psychotherapy clients and national and international eco-psychology and Earth Wisdom celebrations and rites-of-passage for individuals and groups to bring forth those qualities in their own lives.
I am an award-winning author, journalist and poet I am a culture-bearer and myth-carrier. I create education and celebration to sustain the legacy of the stories shared with me by the Old-Timers and homesteading families of our communities. I carry these wise stories forward to honor the past, heal the present and to create hope for the future.
The long-time, core community call me the GodMother and Tribal Mother of our Valley. I consider it to be my dedication and a sacred act to set down roots and choose to protect and preserve one watershed and all the relations who share it, for most of a human lifetime.
We consider Wise Acre and the rivers, mountains and Earth as having Personhood. I believe these First Nature relatives have greater-than-human rights and provide powerful guiding voices for our actions and stewardship---if only we have the ears to hear, and the eyes to see!
5 THINGS I WILL NOT LIVE WITHOUT: Changing of the seasons; living with and surrounded by First Nature; collecting and sharing stories; assisting people on their individual paths to discover and LIVE: Purpose, Passion, Peace and Personal Practice.
LIFE MOTTOS: This personal motto has become the rallying cry for the True Locals in our mountain valley: " Be more Wild than good!" and..." I live to celebrate and serve Nature's Mystery and Mystery's Nature."
This is why I am here. Come and share the vision and the view!
Be a Force for Nature, Marcie

During your stay
Mountain ski towns are a very unique culture. And we think Crested Butte is the most unique, least Aspen-ized village and environs on the North American Contintent. We love our community history, our wilderness, our recreation. We would love to sit around an evening campfire and share these with you. Optional -
We are both professional writers and appreciate readings around the fire. Marcie is a writer, Celebration Artist, Licensed Professional Counselor and Ordained International Secular Minister. Mark is a screenwriter, filmmaker, labyrinth and earth monument designer and builder of small and earth-conscious spaces.
If you should choose the WildLove/Small Wedding Package, Marcie will guide you in choosing a fabulous natural wedding location, wise assistance in creating your ceremony, connections with local photographers, etc. and a sweet and unique wedding and/or ancient Handfasting celebration which will be absolutely, completely, uniquely and lovingly yours alone.
