We had the most wonderful holiday in Jack's cottage. It really does merit the word 'idyllic'. The garden is glorious, and the house is an absolute delight. It feels close to the cottage as it must have been - but far enough that everything is comfortable and lovely! Bridie set up a high-chair and a cot for us, which was very helpful with a little one. Even though it's August we couldn't resist having several gloriously atmospheric (and sweet-smelling!) turf fires, which was wonderful. The cottage was mostly too-good-to-leave and so we cooked a lot - we appreciated the well-stocked kitchen! We did escape one day and went to the seaweed baths in An Rinn - quite wonderful and I'd recommend this as anyone wanting only the most laid-back and unambitious of days out. We hope to be back again.
Jacks Cottages is nicer than it looks in the pictures and the welcome package of Brown bread and Jam was jut what was needed after a days travel. It really does offer tranquillity and peace away from normal life surrounded by nature at its best. Waking to birdsong every morning was just what was needed. We'll definitely be back to enjoy this slice of heaven again
If you like Beattrix Potter's drawing you must go there. Like in a dream, Jack's cottage is in my "come back" list ! Everything was perfect. Bridie and her son were really nice to us ! thanks again we will come back for sure.
Bridie wasn't actually at the listing when we arrived but still managed to make us feel very welcome. When we arrived, Bridie had left us a welcome package of food and had set up the fire for us. We were also given a comprehensive guide to the house. I can't recommend staying in Jack's Cottage enough. The location is perfect for an opportunity to get away from everything in a beautiful and picturesque setting. The cottage is the perfect mix of old and modern with its thatch roof and every amenity you could want provided. The view and surrounding area around the cottage is breath taking. I look forward to staying here again in the future.
Jack's Cottage is the most lovely place we have been in Ireland. Both externally and internally everything is perfect. The atmosphere is very cosy. Rooms are nice and the living room is great. There is only one bathroom (big and renovated) for three double bedrooms.
Reaching the cottage is quite challenging but it is absolutely woth it!!
We spent Easter at Jack's Cottage, travelling with my parents and sister, my husband, and our 15 month old baby. The cottage is really something special - and if you are looking for a total retreat from a busy life - this is the spot for you. A great location to compose the next great novel, sketch/paint, walk, read, and generally unplug. If we are able to plan another trip, we will limit our city tourist plans to a minimum and plan to spend our days at the cottage (thus minimizing drives up and down the very very narrow lane that keeps Jack's Cottage so remote).
The cottage is clean and comfortable and Bridie and Ben are welcoming hosts who are within access during your stay if needed. We were impressed with Bridie's ability to accommodate the needs of our baby, and felt comfortable letting our little girl explore the area in and around the cottage - including the lovely garden.
While the cottage has internet access, it is limited due to the location, so do most of your research in advance or ask Bridie for some insider tips.
About the Host, Bridie
Hi I'm Bridie,
My husband Ben and I developed and rent Jack's Cottage. We have traveled a lot, all over the world, staying in all sorts of places, so when we found Jack's Cottage we knew we could create a unique and special place for other travelers to enjoy. We have been hosting people here for 15 years and would love to share it with you. Staying here is a wonderful experience, it is really off the beaten track so it's very tranquil and peaceful. Most people are so relaxed when they leave, its almost as if they are floating on air. It really does have a magical quality.
