Hunting Lodge in Wicklow Mountains

House - Private room · Pine Ridge Farm, Kilbeg, Ireland

The Space

Our home is a delightful hunting lodge set in the Wicklow mountains on the edge of the Blessington Lakes in the Wicklow National Park. This is a magnificent rural setting but the centre of Dublin is just 45 minutes by car. There is a regular bus service from Blessington to Dublin which takes one hour. However you do need a car to stay with us as there is no public transport link to Lacken.
We have two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom with an adjoining shower room. One double has an ensuite and the other double and twin share a bathroom.
The rate includes a delicious full, cooked Irish breakfast to set you up for the day and welcome tea, coffee or drink.
Lacken is the perfect gateway for exploring the wild and beautiful Wicklow National Park which is on your doorstep - just step out and enjoy it. The lake is surrounded by the Wicklow mountains. Around the lake are lovely small Irish villages: Hollywood, Valleymount and Ballyknockan with delightful small cosy pubs and some very good, informal restaurants such as the award winning Ballymore Inn, The Brown Bear and the Hollywood Inn.
Other attractions in the area are:
Russborough House - one of the most significant Palladian mansions in Ireland with magnificent contents and lovely grounds which is open to the public.
Tulfarris Golf Course which is an highly rated course is just 15 minutes away.
National Hunt racing - the great sport of Ireland - has its home at Punchestown Race Course which is 20 mins away.
Avon Ri Sports Centre situated in Blessington has a full range of lake based activities for adults and children including sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

  • I arrived at "Hunting Lodge in the Wicklow Mountains" quite late at 23:00 after a long day of work and travel. Felicity welcomed me and lead me into her large sitting-room with a blazing fire and a friendly dog. There I consumed a delicious bowl of soup and brown bread while Felicity and I exchanged some stories.

The en-suite bedroom was everything I needed to rest, sleep and recover.

In the morning I eat a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs and tomatoes, cooked exactly as I liked them. A freshly-made bowl of fruit, porridge, some brown bread and a pot of tea, rounded off my breakfast.

I am ashamed to write that I accepted Felicity's offer to iron a shirt (two actually). I asked for an ironing board and iron so I could do my own ironing. Felicity made it clear that it would be easier for all if she did the ironing.

I arrived at 23:00 and left at 08:00 next morning as I had a 9:00 meeting in Dublin. This was not enough time to enjoy all that Felicity, her husband, the dog, the horses, and the beautiful house and surroundings, were offering me.

My daughter is planning a visit here so she can go horse riding while my wife and I do some hiking in the nearby Wicklow Mountains.

  • I highly recommend Felicity's place! Everything about my trip exceeded my expectations. The house was beautiful. The location was beautiful. Felicity and her family were awesome. They really made us feel at home. The breakfast in the morning was excellent! If you want to get a feel for the country side in Ireland, this is the place to do it. You won't be disappointed! Worth every penny.

  • I spent the last part of my 10 weeks in Ireland staying at Hunting Lodge,
Felicity was one of the most thoughtful, well organised & kindest hostesses I encountered, nothing seemed too much trouble. It was such a pleasure staying in her lovely home, made to feel welcome by the entire family even the cute 4 legged one !
The views & surrounding country side are spectacular, the bed comfy & wow what a fine cook, everything was delicious :-)
I'd highly recommend Felicity's hospitality & will delightedly stay again on my next trip to Ireland.
Many thanks for a perfect stay.

  • Felicity really went above and beyond to accomodate me during my stay at the Hunting Lodge in Wicklow Mountains. I've just started using airbnb and my expectations were met and then some. The location is amazing. You can literally walk out the front door and hike around the lake. The scenery is gorgeous. Felicity made sure that I felt comfortable and the cooking was superb. I would highly recommend to everyone!

  • My hubby and I stayed for 3 days at Felicity's heavenly homestead on Blessington Lakes and it was absolutely THE highlight of our month in Ireland.

The entire experience was what I imagine to be quintessentially the best of what the AirBnB founders had in mind when they launched this concept. Here's a lovely family who love people, nestled in a world-class setting and a big, beautiful home with a room to spare.

We got to experience the essence of rural Ireland off-the-beaten-tourist-path with the most gracious hostesses EVER!

Our hike along the wild and rugged lakeshore surrounded by stunning views of the Wicklow Mountains countryside was something I will remember forever. It was made sweeter when we got to "borrow" the family dog, 'Bobby', a spry and companionable Jack Russell terrier mix.

This fabulous place will definitely be on our list when we return to Ireland, and we recommend it with enthusiasm. We've been telling all our friends about it!

Big appreciation to Felicity, Mary, Robin, Bobby and Pat!

  • Felicity's is a wonderful country house and I cannot imagine anyone has anything to complain. The house is by the lake which has no noise coming from jet skis, at the foot of hills that surrounds the lake and there are a number of possible walks. Felicity has a plenty of books and maps to tell us about the area and her family was all very lovely. The breakfast was great with such lovely soda bread! I cannot recommend more. I look forward to return very soon.

  • We were hosted by Felicity and her family at the beginning of our trip to Ireland. We stayed at Hunting Lodge for 2 nights. There could be a better welcome! Felicity is a fantastic host, helpful and attentive to our every need! Her home is wonderful, warm and welcoming, also its cuisine.
What about her lemonade! Fantastic!! She and her husband made us feel at home. What a special place! It was most certainly one of the best stays of our trip. Thanks again Felicity and all the best to your family, Cri & Max

  • This is basically the paragon of what I imagine most people seek through Air BnB: beautiful home in an idyllic setting with warm and interesting hosts. Felicity et al (I haven't forgotten names) are natural hosts in a way that you almost wonder how you ended up there in the first place.

  • What an incredible experience! This property is exquisitely located in a beautiful location and it is a real privilege to get to see the lake and the mountains from their vantage. The family that hosts are delightful, intelligent, warm and welcoming. I couldn't have asked for more during my stay - they were so happy to chat with me about the many questions I had and had some wonderful perspectives to share. The room is lovely and comfortable but you will probably enjoy being curled up by the open fire in the gorgeous great room. The food was delicious!

  • Felicity's home is gorgeous with amazing views! She made us feel right at home immediately, offering us food and coffee. Her and her daughter were both very friendly and gave us tons of great travel tips. And her breakfast was one of the best we had in Ireland! We would definitely recommend her to anyone traveling in the Wicklow area.

Passionate about Wicklow and the great outdoors: riding, walking and being on the water. We live in the Wicklow hills which sweep down to the Blessington Lakes where we swim and sail. We keep three Irish horses which we hunt in the winter and trek around the mountains. I love our garden where we grow as much as we can - outside and in a tunnel - flowers, vegetables and herbs. We collect and are deeply interested in Irish art and Irish books. I run painting courses both in Wicklow and the South of France - and making art is an important part of my life in Wicklow. I love to cook and experiment - particularly using wild ingredients or home grown produce: in autumn I am busy making chutney, sloe gin, fruit cheeses and other delicious things to store up for the winter.
