Our private compound and spacious house - 2 private rooms, a living room, dining room, and kitchen - is a great alternative to paying top dollar to stay in town. We'd be sharing the house, but my b/f and I can advise you about travel in Kenya/Nakuru!
The house is securely located behind two locked iron gates and very near a police outpost, so security is quite tight. In one area of the compound, we have servants quarters, which are unoccupied, some fruit trees, and a small garden. Behind the second locked gate is the house, and a few more fruit trees. The house gets a good deal of sunlight, and I sometimes like to just lay outside and bask in the sun's rays.
You will have access to every part of the house, except my private room. Kitchen is available if you would like to cook your own meals (stove is uses gas burners). I also have a TV and DVD player if you would like to bring some entertainment with you for down time.
Interaction with Guests
I will be present at the house for a portion of the time you're there, depending on my work schedule and on your preferences.
The house is located across the street from a primary school and within easy walking distance of food markets. Our quiet area is an example of a typical Kenyan residential neighborhood. You can take a short walk to several high altitude spots that give you decent views of Lake Nakuru, and Menangai Crater is also not far away!
My house is accessible by a public transit vehicle (called a matatu), by motorcycle (called a pikipiki), or by foot, depending how far you'd like to go. Transport is readily available and cheap. I can put you in touch with motorcycle operators and help you figure your way around town.
Other Things to Note
The house is pet friendly. I have two dogs who help keep order around here, two cats who keep the mice away, and two chickens that lay eggs almost daily!
We don't have a washer/dryer here, but if you would like your laundry done, I can arrange to have it done for you for a small additional fee. Typically clothes will be dry the same day, but this is subject to the rainy season.
I expect guests to respect me, my house, and my property. Please don't bring home guests you've met in town, as I don't know them. Smoking is permitted, but I ask that you do not do it in the house.
Stay here and you could give this host their first review!
I am an ambitious, hard working Kenyan woman who likes sharing worldviews, learning about other cultures, and teaching others about my home country of Kenya. I am very good with languages (Kiswahili, Kikamba, English, German, a little French, and counting)...I like to learn them and also to help others learn useful phrases in Swahili. Furthermore, I'm a GREAT cook of traditional foods of Kenya (but you'll have to pay extra for that kind of service!). In my spare time, I like to watch movies, some times read, try new foods, and hang out with friends.
I can help you navigate the sometimes confusing city of Nakuru, and my boyfriend, an American, and I can advise you about travel to many parts of Kenya -- where to go, when to go, approximately how much you should pay, etc.
