In the Heart of Downtown Frederick- Pet Friendly!
Stay at the childhood home of the famous Barbara Fritchie! When she married John Fritchie, her father had the "Barbara Fritchie House" built right next door...attached to the Hauer house! Large, spacious, beautifully remodeled but still has the feel of the 1850's. Have a large group? Book both the Hauer House and Fritchie house (also owned by us) for a discount!

The space
The Historic Hauer Guest House is part of the StayInFrederick collection of historic short-term rental properties in downtown Frederick. All StayInFrederick properties are fully appointed so you can enjoy a premium hotel-like experience in a "home away from home" at cost far less than a hotel. Each property has a fully stocked kitchen so you can make your own meals, or head out to one of Frederick's great restaurants, just a block or so away. Well-behaved pets are welcome for an extra fee. For business-oriented guests, we have commercial-grade wifi and even provide a printer/scanner for your convenience. All you need to bring is your suitcase.

The Historic Hauer House has "patina" and is nearly 225 years old. In addition to the modern kitchen and bathroom, guests can expect classic but uneven floors, cranky door knobs, wavy walls, windows, and tons of charm. Enjoy the very spacious living room with exposed brick walls. We have integrated history with the modern features of this house, with a bit of an industrial theme.

The house was beautifully restored several years ago by the previous owner. A modern kitchen and full dining room table offers space for meals and games. There is plenty of heat and central A/C. You may cook in the full kitchen, or walk to one of many awesome downtown restaurants. In addition to the living room, dining area, and eat-in kitchen, there is a common space upstairs with the bedroom. The history of the house comes alive with the stone that makes up the walls of the ground floor. Couches and a large TV invite crowds to hang out. The original cooking fireplace is signature feature of this favorite space. The bedrooms are inviting and there are two pullout couches to accommodate larger groups. Need more space? Book the Barbara Fritchie house right next door.

Chill out in the fenced-in backyard or on the two sleeping porches that look onto the creek. The Victorian garden is irresistible and offers fresh spices. Enjoy a patio dinner as you grill out on the gas grill.

While Frederick has plenty to do, should you want a day trip you'll find that The Hauer House is centrally located on the Civil War Trail. Situated near Virginia, West Virginia and the Appalachian Trail. The Battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam, as well as historic Harper's Ferry are each only a short 30-minute drive. Plan a day trip to the Smithsonian museums in DC, the Baltimore Aquarium, or Annapolis each just an hour's drive.

There are plenty of unique experiences to do right around Frederick however. Visit the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, catch a ghost tour, a yoga class, paint some pottery, visit a distillery or brewery, catch a play at the MET or the Weinberg Center for the Arts. Visit the Delaplaine Art Center and enjoy our great food offerings. See the Guidebook for more information.

There is a public parking garage just a few steps from the house, but you'll probably just walk everywhere anyway. We provide one parking pass to the parking garage for 24x7 access, it's on the dining room table.

Guests can use the awesome fitness center 2 blocks away at the Talley Rec Center for $4. See house manual for details.

The house is pet-friendly for an extra $150 charge per dog per stay, charged through Airbnb when you book.

Early check-in/late checkout: Normal checkin time is 4pm, normal checkout time is 10am. For earlier checkin or later checkout, please contact us. If it is possible, there is a $25 charge and will be charged with a money request through Airbnb.

Where you’ll be

Frederick, Maryland, United States

Vibrant with life and designed after the River Walk in San Antonio, Texas, Carroll Creek is just steps from the property. Follow the creek to restaurants and a plethora of events in Frederick. Baker Park is one direction, it spans several blocks, while local the city life is the other. The house itself sits in Frederick's Historic District surrounded by offices and the city police station is right next door. There is some traffic along Patrick Street, a major street, but guests tell us it's pretty quiet actually. People are drawn to the history of the Barbara Fritchie house next door. You will see lots of people, walking back to the parking garage from the Mt Gambrill Restaurant or Glory Donuts. The Carroll Creek Linear Park is steps from the house and beautiful Baker Park is just a block away.
