The Neighborhood

Very peaceful neighbourhood: Just nature all around us, lots of wildlife! Enjoy it!

Getting around

The property is about 15 minutes walking or 3 minutes by car/taxi from downtown Quepos. From there, you have a frequent bus service (every 15 minutes, 60 cents/ride) to the beach and National Park Manuel Antonio. The drive takes about 10 minutes, also by car (parking along the beach or at the entrance of the NP)

Closest airport is San Jose (SJO), with several options for transportation to Quepos:

SANSA AND NATURE AIR are the two local airlines, taking you to Quepos or back to San Jose, the flight is 25 minutes, the ticket cost $ 75.-/pax one way. Both airlines can be found in the web and tickets can be easy purchased online.

INTERBUS AND GRAYLINE: shuttle service with several pick up and drop off locations.

The other option is a van transportation, pick up at the airport upon your arrival and drop off at the Tree House. Like that you can already enjoy your drive from the Central Valley to the Pacific Coast.

VAN TRANSPORTATION: door to door service (any time day or night)
Ask us for the current price.

You can, of course, also rent a vehicle and drive by yourself, but I can always see the guests arriving very exhausted. For your individual transportation then in Manuel Antonio, there are several rental car companies with similar cars and prices:

RENTAL CAR COMPANIES represented in QUEPOS:
Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo, Adobe, Budget, Toyota, Economy, National

  • We spent 12 glorious days at Thomas and Lilli's Villa. It was beautiful and everything we hoped it would be. Their place is private, quiet, great view and has so much wildlife! We would enjoy our morning coffee watching monkeys, birds and sloths right from our yard. Incredible! Thomas was great in pointing out any animals or birds on the property knowing that was something we were very keen on.
The plunge pool and cabana were perfect for cooling down and relaxing. The night sky from the pool was a sight to see. The gardens that surround you are beyond beautiful.
It was also great to have Vanessa their house maid come by every day.
Thomas and Lilli are a great couple and certainly take pleasure ensuring their guests have a great experience while at the house but also taking in all that Costa Rica has to offer.
We will miss not being in this beautiful spot but will always have very fond memories and hope to return again. Pura Vida

  • Our 5-night stay at Thomas' villa was nothing less than phenomenal. Expect everything you see in pictures and more. He and his assistant Hazel were extremely helpful with initial transportation to the property and recommendations in the area. The pool area is a lovely spot to relax. We did not rent a car, but the villa is an easy downhill 10 minute walk from Quepos and a great workout back up. Or you can take a taxi for $4 US. We cooked in the kitchen everyday and it has everything you need. We loved the tranquility of this space. If you're looking for a true getaway, look no further! We just got home and are already talking about when we can go back. Enjoy your time in Costa Rica, regardless of where you stay; it is a magical place :) Pura vida!

  • My husband and I spent the majority of our honeymoon at Villa Malinche and could not have been more pleased with our experience. If you are considering staying at Villa Malinche, do not hesitate for one second! It is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful, yet close to all the action in Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Thomas and Lilli are extraordinary hosts and were always available to answer questions, arrange transportation, and recommend tours/activities.

The living space is private, comfortable, and modern....we would live there all the time if we could! The pool was a lovely addition, very clean and the perfect temperature. And the landscaping! So lush and green! You will love it here.

We took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and BBQ grill on site and got groceries from the local markets in Quepos. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish...you can't go wrong! When we didn't cook, we took the bus to Manuel Antonio for some terrific meals. The bus is cheap and easy...definitely worth trying!

One thing to consider: This location is best for people who love nature and are willing to do a lot of walking. The hill to the house is steep, but walkable. Taxis are very affordable and readily available should you not feel like making the 15-minute trek to and from Quepos...but be prepared for a workout should you chose to walk.

We felt very well taken care of while we stayed at Villa Malinche. Very highly recommended!

  • We spent 6 nights at this home and the beauty that surrounds this home is AMAZING, absolutely beautiful. The view being high up on the mountain was Georgeous! The home was very clean and had a fully stocked kitchen. Didn't see any monkeys, only a few small chameleons that enjoyed hanging out on the ceilings in the evenings and one igueona that hung out in the same tree every morning near the outdoor patio. Enjoyed the swimming pool too, just a short walk from the house. We feel that you MUST have your own 4x4 to stay here, otherwise you will be at the mercy of taxi drivers who will & who will not take you up the mountain. The road to the house is filled with huge pot holes and can be scary coming up at night. We walked into Quepos two times which is about a half hour walk into town. Never attempted walking up the mountain, too steep. While there in December keep in mind it is HOT HOT HOT, hotter then we thought it would be. Quepos was a great little town with friendly people and fantastic authentic costa rican food. You have to go to the local little restaurants behind the bus (email hidden)licious! Since not having our own car, we took the city bus from Quepos to Manuel Antonio to go to the beach & to go to a few other restaurants. Then dropped off at bus station having to take a taxi up the mountain. If you do not have your own car you are always at the mercy of a taxi driver having to go up & down the mountain. I would not stay here again without a car. Otherwise it was an absolutely beautiful place to stay.

  • We stayed at villa Malinche 3 nights ans it was the three most beautiful days of our lives, The place is amazing, very clean, luminous, perfect ! We really enjoyed staying in this paradisiac place. Thomas was very helpful and friendly and we really appreciated on our last day the beautiful littles wild monkeys saying goodbye in the tree in front of the villa, it was magic. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes tranquility, nature and happiness. Thank you to thomas and lily.

  • We had a wonderful time at Villa Malinche! Everything was beyond beautiful. Thomas made our trip by organizing all of our tours and making our lives easy and vacation relaxing. Lili gives a great massage too!

The view from this place is unbelievable! It got dark around 6 each day, so after a long day rafting or an easy day at the beach we would hang out on the awesome patio until we got hungry enough to venture out to one of the restaurants Thomas recommended.

The hill everyone talks about is not so bad. We considered it our workout.

  • We meet up with Thomas just outside Manuel and lead the way in his SUV up some bumpy, curvy roads and once we got there, the view was paridise. It was up in the hills overlooking nature and the ocean. The place was clean and well maintained. The stay here felt very safe, comfortable, and seperated enough from there place where it felt private. They welcomed us with generous hospitality and they even had our laundry cleaned after stinking up our clothes from hiking! They have a list of fun activities and were a big help setting them up for us. They seemed to be very knowledgable about the area, which is helpful for first time visitors. I could see that the couple loved Costa Rica and were very laid back and friendly. I recommend this place!

  • My husband and I stayed at the Villa in mid July and it was wonderful!!!! In addition to Thomas helping arrange activities and setting us up with a cab driver we saw monkeys and a sloth a few steps from the door!
The Villa is very well maintained, nicely decorated, and absolutely beautiful in ever direction you look! We were VERY pleased with our stay and would recommend it to anyone coming to this area!

  • My stay in Costa Rica was made even more amazing because I stayed at Villa Malinche! The villa is open and airy and so beautifully appointed with a lovely blend of both modern and quaint finishing touches which make it both beautiful and amazingly comfortable! Every morning we made coffee and climbed into the hammocks on the patio to listen to the Howler Monkeys greet the day and look out onto the amazing view of the canopy and the ocean. I felt like pinching myself everyday because it's so wonderful there, it hardly seems real.

If you're an animal lover like me you'll be in heaven there at Villa Malinche! Our first morning we took our coffee trekked down to the deck below and watched the Titi Monkeys jump from branch to branch munching on leaves. Funny little land crabs (Called Harlequin or Halloween Crabs) busied themselves in the shrubbery and sometimes on the patio! Iguanas sunned themselves on the branches in our trees and best of all one evening as we hung in the hammocks watching the sun set I looked up and an adorable sloth was hanging not 25 feet away in the tree right in front of us! Just a day or so before we left I got to see an entire family of Howler Monkeys in the trees just outside the driveway! They were lounging and eating and playing!

Finally Thomas was the perfect and most helpful host! Our trip was so much easier and more fun thanks to his knowledge and his help and his warm, friendly personality.

Do yourself a favor and book your stay in Costa Rica with Thomas and Lili. Like me, you will be so very glad that you did!!!

  • This is a beautiful luxurious property in Quepos. We had breathtaking views of the ocean and sunsets. I spent a lot of time in the hammocks reading and cooking in the well equipped kitchen. The jacuzzi and shower were very relaxing and it was a very short drive from Manuel Antonio park. I would recommend a 4 wheel drive as the drive into the property gets very steep, and stocking up on your fruits and veggies at the markets behind the bus station in town. We at lunch at the soda just east of the soccer field. Our last night there we at at La Bohemia restaurant as suggested by a lovely woman we met in the bakery. It was certainly the best dinner I've had in a long time and the owner was nice. My favorite part of the trip was the family of squirrel monkeys that hung out in the trees in the yard for about a half hour. I loved it. Tomas was very informative before we arrived and Kathrin who met us in town and escorted us to the property was so nice, helpful and excitable. Yay!

About
Moved from Switzerland 15 years ago, just love it here! The people are "pura vida", life is so easy, the climate is very healthy! Very lucky to have purchased a big piece of property in the Playa Macha area, declared as green area, where I offer the Tree House and Villa Malinche. It's almost like the National Park, lot's of wildlife and very peaceful, surrounded by lush rain forest! My wife Lili is a licensed physic therapist, also with a great dedication for massage treatments, she can make you feel in heaven.... Don't miss an in-home treatment during your stay! We are happy to share this relaxed jungle feeling on our property with the people we meet through Airbnb. Just lay back in the hammocks, taste the famous coffee and watch the monkeys fly by...
