Getting around

The property is about 15 minutes walking or 3 minutes by car/taxi from downtown Quepos. From there, you have a frequent bus service (every 15 minutes, 60 cents/ride) to the beach and National Park Manuel Antonio. The drive takes about 10 minutes, also by car (parking along the beach or at the entrance of the NP)

Closest airport is San Jose (SJO), with several options for transportation to Quepos:

SANSA AND NATURE AIR are the two local airlines, taking you to Quepos or back to San Jose, the flight is 25 minutes, the ticket cost $ 75.-/pax one way. Both airlines can be found in the web and tickets can be easy purchased online.

INTERBUS AND GRAYLINE: shuttle service with several pick up and drop off locations.

The other option is a van transportation, pick up at the airport upon your arrival and drop off at Villa Malinche. This way you can already enjoy your drive from the Central Valley to the Pacific Coast.

VAN TRANSPORTATION: door to door service (any time day or night)
Ask us for the current price.

You can, of course, also rent a vehicle and drive by yourself, but I can always see the guests arriving very exhausted. For your individual transportation then in Manuel Antonio, there are several rental car companies with similar cars and prices:

Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo, Adobe, Budget, Toyota, Economy, National

  • This place is fantastic! We had the best vacation of our lives and it was definitely in part to staying in Villa Malinche. Beautifully designed, comfortable and well thought out lodging. We had everything we needed and our host was a phone call away. Hazel was our host as Thomas and Lili were on vacation. Hazel was very nice and accommodating. We did get to meet Thomas the last day we were there. Very pleasant person who made us feel welcome in his place. Just a little about the experience. There is a small trail down to the a stream which is a beautiful walk. There is a deck almost at the bottom where you can sit and just enjoy the jungle. The pool is nice! Your own cabana, places to lay out and the water is a refreshing reprieve from the heat and humidity. At night there are Geckos, I believe, that run along the ceiling of the outside patio that make a sound that is like a bird. Sometimes you will get one in the Villa, but they are harmless. There was a frog that visited the back patio every night and a crab that has its routine of walking along the patio and into the bushes. The air bubble bathtub is very relaxing and the rainfall shower head felt great after a day of adventure. Hazel booked us an ATV tour that was amazing. We also went to a monkey sanctuary at the Blue Banyon Inn about 8km from the villa. Manuel Antonio park is beautiful and only a short drive from the villa. Bring a bathing suit to the park as the water of the pacific is amazing. You could spend an entire day there. The icing on the cake was that we witnesses World Cup history in the town of Quepos. We got to watch Costa Rica beat Greece in a restaurant on the third floor of the Best Western Hotel. The street was packed with people as they had a big screen for everyone to watch the game. The streets were blocked off and it seemed the entire town was there. The energy was fantastic. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. What a trip.

  • We had an amazing time staying at Villa Malinche. Everything is as beautiful as it appears in the photos, and Thomas is a wonderful host. He has the answers to all your questions and is able to easily arrange whatever you want to do (at least he made it seem it was easy!). Take his advice regarding travel; we flew into Quepos for about the same cost as a bus and it was a great ride! There are many activities that are easily accessible in the area, and if the providers don't pick you up at the door, the walk down to the main road is scenic and not far. The walk up is a bit steep in places, but easily managed - you will see wildlife along the way, and also at the Villa. In Quepos you can purchase whatever you need to cook meals, and the Villa is well equipped for making whatever you want - including a blender for making smoothies from all the fresh fruit! But there are wonderful places to eat - don't miss Bohemia. This is the most beautiful place I've ever stayed; the only difficult part was deciding which location to relax in: the hammock, by the pool, on a reclining chair......

  • We spent 12 glorious days at Thomas and Lilli's Villa. It was beautiful and everything we hoped it would be. Their place is private, quiet, great view and has so much wildlife! We would enjoy our morning coffee watching monkeys, birds and sloths right from our yard. Incredible! Thomas was great in pointing out any animals or birds on the property knowing that was something we were very keen on.
The plunge pool and cabana were perfect for cooling down and relaxing. The night sky from the pool was a sight to see. The gardens that surround you are beyond beautiful.
It was also great to have Vanessa their house maid come by every day.
Thomas and Lilli are a great couple and certainly take pleasure ensuring their guests have a great experience while at the house but also taking in all that Costa Rica has to offer.
We will miss not being in this beautiful spot but will always have very fond memories and hope to return again. Pura Vida

  • Our 5-night stay at Thomas' villa was nothing less than phenomenal. Expect everything you see in pictures and more. He and his assistant Hazel were extremely helpful with initial transportation to the property and recommendations in the area. The pool area is a lovely spot to relax. We did not rent a car, but the villa is an easy downhill 10 minute walk from Quepos and a great workout back up. Or you can take a taxi for $4 US. We cooked in the kitchen everyday and it has everything you need. We loved the tranquility of this space. If you're looking for a true getaway, look no further! We just got home and are already talking about when we can go back. Enjoy your time in Costa Rica, regardless of where you stay; it is a magical place :) Pura vida!

  • My husband and I spent the majority of our honeymoon at Villa Malinche and could not have been more pleased with our experience. If you are considering staying at Villa Malinche, do not hesitate for one second! It is absolutely beautiful and so peaceful, yet close to all the action in Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Thomas and Lilli are extraordinary hosts and were always available to answer questions, arrange transportation, and recommend tours/activities.

The living space is private, comfortable, and modern....we would live there all the time if we could! The pool was a lovely addition, very clean and the perfect temperature. And the landscaping! So lush and green! You will love it here.

We took advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and BBQ grill on site and got groceries from the local markets in Quepos. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and can't go wrong! When we didn't cook, we took the bus to Manuel Antonio for some terrific meals. The bus is cheap and easy...definitely worth trying!

One thing to consider: This location is best for people who love nature and are willing to do a lot of walking. The hill to the house is steep, but walkable. Taxis are very affordable and readily available should you not feel like making the 15-minute trek to and from Quepos...but be prepared for a workout should you chose to walk.

We felt very well taken care of while we stayed at Villa Malinche. Very highly recommended!

  • We spent 6 nights at this home and the beauty that surrounds this home is AMAZING, absolutely beautiful. The view being high up on the mountain was Georgeous! The home was very clean and had a fully stocked kitchen. Didn't see any monkeys, only a few small chameleons that enjoyed hanging out on the ceilings in the evenings and one igueona that hung out in the same tree every morning near the outdoor patio. Enjoyed the swimming pool too, just a short walk from the house. We feel that you MUST have your own 4x4 to stay here, otherwise you will be at the mercy of taxi drivers who will & who will not take you up the mountain. The road to the house is filled with huge pot holes and can be scary coming up at night. We walked into Quepos two times which is about a half hour walk into town. Never attempted walking up the mountain, too steep. While there in December keep in mind it is HOT HOT HOT, hotter then we thought it would be. Quepos was a great little town with friendly people and fantastic authentic costa rican food. You have to go to the local little restaurants behind the bus (email hidden)licious! Since not having our own car, we took the city bus from Quepos to Manuel Antonio to go to the beach & to go to a few other restaurants. Then dropped off at bus station having to take a taxi up the mountain. If you do not have your own car you are always at the mercy of a taxi driver having to go up & down the mountain. I would not stay here again without a car. Otherwise it was an absolutely beautiful place to stay.

  • We stayed at villa Malinche 3 nights ans it was the three most beautiful days of our lives, The place is amazing, very clean, luminous, perfect ! We really enjoyed staying in this paradisiac place. Thomas was very helpful and friendly and we really appreciated on our last day the beautiful littles wild monkeys saying goodbye in the tree in front of the villa, it was magic. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes tranquility, nature and happiness. Thank you to thomas and lily.

  • Our stay at the Villa Maliche was an unforgettable experience that we will remember with love. Thomas and Lili are very friendly and they make you feel at home and very intimate. The Villa Maliche is an idyllic place. During our trip in Costa Rica we have been in 4 and 5 stars hotels, and Villa Maliche has been the best ever.

  • My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Villa Malinche and it was absolutely breathtaking. We came in at night and were actually quite scared going up the bumpy hill to the house because we didn't know what to expect. But the house was immaculate, and in the morning we were able to wake up to the gorgeous TWO ocean views that the open house invites you to. We were stunned! Thomas was such a warm and wonderful host- he was so patient with us, put an itinerary of activities together for us from whitewater rafting to sailing because we wanted to explore so much. There were even sweet touches around the house like a fruit basket, some breakfast items, and a huge heart shaped with flowers and towels on the bed.

I should say that I do believe it is best if you do have a 4x4 suv in navigating around because it is so much smoother, and we loved being able to get up and go whenever we pleased.

We loved Cafe Milagros! Which is a restaurant with amazing Costa Rican coffee and delicious dishes. Also, don't be afraid to try the "sodas" which are the small hole in the wall type restaurants. Inexpensive but still delicious. Our favorite was El Pollito just down the hill.

All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful trip. We loved our home away from home and would definitely come back! Thomas and Lili are such kind people, you can't go wrong with Villa Malinche.

Thank you, Thomas and Lili!! We wish you the best and God Bless!

  • My husband and I visited this lovely oasis on our honeymoon. We were so spoiled here with the beauty and privacy that came with Villa Malinche. Thomas was sooo friendly and willing to help with any needs that we had and even picked us up from Quepos airport and drove us through the town so we had an idea of our surroundings. At night we opened the sliding glass doors that surround the villa and enjoyed the sound of nature... including the thunder storms. Villa Malinche is up a steep hill (A little slippery - so be careful!) so we just walked down the hill to go into town and took a taxi back. We highly recommend staying at this lovely gem!

Moved from Switzerland 15 years ago, just love it here! The people are "pura vida", life is so easy, the climate is very healthy! Very lucky to have purchased a big piece of property in the Playa Macha area, declared as green area, where I offer the Tree House and Villa Malinche. It's almost like the National Park, lot's of wildlife and very peaceful, surrounded by lush rain forest! My wife Lili is a licensed physic therapist, also with a great dedication for massage treatments, she can make you feel in heaven.... Don't miss an in-home treatment during your stay! We are happy to share this relaxed jungle feeling on our property with the people we meet through Airbnb. Just lay back in the hammocks, taste the famous coffee and watch the monkeys fly by...
