Interaction with Guests

We provide complete privacy in both units, the Tree House and Villa Malinche, but we are here for you if you need to know details of local attractions, activities, beaches, etc.

The Neighborhood

Very peaceful neighbourhood: Just nature all around us, lots of wildlife! Enjoy it!

Getting around

The property is about 15 minutes walking or 3 minutes by car/taxi from downtown Quepos. From there, you have a frequent bus service (every 15 minutes, 60 cents/ride) to the beach and National Park Manuel Antonio. The drive takes about 10 minutes, also by car (parking along the beach or at the entrance of the NP)

Closest airport is San Jose (SJO), with several options for transportation to Quepos:

SANSA AND NATURE AIR are the two local airlines, taking you to Quepos or back to San Jose, the flight is 25 minutes, the ticket cost $ 75.-/pax one way. Both airlines can be found in the web and tickets can be easy purchased online.

INTERBUS AND GRAYLINE: shuttle service with several pick up and drop off locations.

The other option is a van transportation, pick up at the airport upon your arrival and drop off at the Tree House. Like that you can already enjoy your drive from the Central Valley to the Pacific Coast.

VAN TRANSPORTATION: door to door service (any time day or night)
Ask us for the current price.

You can, of course, also rent a vehicle and drive by yourself, but I can always see the guests arriving very exhausted. For your individual transportation then in Manuel Antonio, there are several rental car companies with similar cars and prices:

RENTAL CAR COMPANIES represented in QUEPOS:
Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo, Adobe, Budget, Toyota, Economy, National

  • WOW!!! This was our first AirBnB stay and will be hard to beat!! A tranquil setting with sea views and playful monkeys to watch!!! The villa was stunning!! We spent a few lazy days not even leaving the grounds enjoying the pool and hammocks..
We did not rent a car for our week stay, and found it very easy to walk to town day and nite (I would recommend bringing a headlite/flashlite for the nite walk). Yes, the road up to the villa could use some repair, but if you do rent a car take it slow and you will be fine.
In the villa's kitchen you will find all you need to create your own delicious meals with fruit and vegetables bought at the Farmers Market on Friday/Saturday or from the markets down by the main bus depot. We loved having our morning coffee and smoothies relaxing in the chairs watching the spider monkeys in the fruit tree right in front of us!! I think we saw more wildlife from those chairs than we did touring Manuel Antonio Park..
The bed is comfortable, the shower is fabulous, and the TV is NOT needed!!!
Thomas helped arrange our transport from San Jose to Quepos and we were able to stop a few times to pick up snacks and see the crocodiles...He even filled our request to have cold beer waiting on our arrival at the villa!!!
I WILL be telling all my friends about Villa Malinche

  • We had a lovely stay at Villa Malinche. Thomas was incredibly helpful and met us in downtown Quepos to lead the way to our beautiful home for the week.

The views from the home are incredible, and we enjoyed relaxing outside on the hammocks and watching the sunset over the ocean. We loved the sounds of the surrounding wildlife, and the entire landscape. The new pool was perfect for cooling off in the afternoons.

It is a short drive to town and the beaches, and once you get used to driving up and down the hill, it is really an easy trip back and forth. We attended the market on Friday afternoon and stocked up on delicious foods to make back at the house.

We had a fantastic stay and hope to return one day! Thank you, Thomas and Lili!

  • BEAUTIFUL location! The view and vegetation at Thomas & Lili's place is absolutely amazing. Great sunset views, and beautiful flowers all over the place. The house is great inside and out as well. The bed was good quality, but a little firm for our taste (but that's subjective, of course).

Be aware this is a bit farther from the beach & restaurants in Manuel Antonio than a lot of other places. It's not a problem, just not at all walking distance. The road up from Quepos to the house is rather poor, so just be ready for that (and don't take a sports car!).

If you're looking for a beautiful setting to relax in, that's a little bit remote, this is perfect for you.

  • It was outstanding! The hosts are really taking so much care & are family style lovely. The Villa is the perfect place to come down and totally forget all stress. Theres actually no need to visit the Manuel Antonio National Park, cuz all the animals will be closer to you than in the Park. 3 kinds of Monkeys (even the endangered ones), humming birds, iguanas, eagles, butterflies, dragonflies, ... you name it. Its all in your private garden, a couple of feet away - at max! The Villa is perfectly equipped, all you need is there. Very clean and very stylish. Thanx Thomas & Lili for the great time!

  • Our stay at Villa Malinche was fantastic. The bed is incredibly comfortable, and the property is beautiful. My favorite part of the trip could easily be the mornings I spent reading on the patio. If you are on foot it is a bit of a hike from town, but I really enjoyed the walk and the peaceful neighborhood. Thomas was very helpful and always available. He helped us set up three tours that were all great - mangrove tour, sunset sail, and zip lining. Thank you Thomas for a wonderful experience!

  • What an amazing place! Thomas has done some amazing upcycling with old wooden beams and other great castoffs, turning them into tables, cupboards, mirrors, and towel racks. The decor was totally charming! We could see the ocean above the canopy, too, which was particularly lovely as we lounged on the patio drinking coffee in the morning and recalling the day's activities in the evening. The squirrel monkeys and capuchins woke us up one morning as they rustled through the cashew tree outside our sliding-glass doors. Then the parrots swooped in to see what was left for them! They hung around for good measure. The pool was perfect for cooling off after our hikes back from town. Oh, how we wished we could have stayed longer! Frank at the Century 21 office in Quepos called Thomas for us when our phone decided not to work--and he came right away to pick us up. We loved everything about Villa Malinche and hope to return next winter. Thanks for an unforgettable getaway!

  • Our stay at Villa Malinche was amazing! Thomas and Lili are the most gracious of hosts and they took fantastic care of us. For my trip to Manuel Antonio, I had planned out an extravagant engagement proposal for my girlfriend Melissa, and Thomas and Lili were kind enough to help me with some of the important details as well as coordinating and planning the surprise. I can't thank them enough for helping contribute to a truly memorable proposal for my fiancé that she will remember forever. Aside from the engagement, the trip and our stay at Vila Malinche was very enjoyable. It’s a beautiful location with spectacular views and lush greenery, flora and wildlife...including our favorite white-faced monkeys that paid us numerous visits. When we first arrived at the villa, we were able to immediately unwind and relax after a long day of traveling. The villa is very comfortable, peaceful and tastefully decorated. Thomas and Lili also helped coordinate a number of our excursions including a great day of horseback riding to some beautiful waterfalls. Thank you for an outstanding and unforgettable vacation!

  • My husband and I just returned home from our fantastic honeymoon in Costa Rica at Villa Malinche. We were so sad to leave such a beautiful country and such an incredible spot! The Villa and grounds are more lovely than the photos, our hosts were incredibly generous and helpful, and we were near many adventures and sights in the surrounding towns of Quepos and Manuel Antonio but had a quiet and gorgeous place to come back to each day. For us, it was a trip of a lifetime which we'd highly recommend.

  • Thomas and Lili were fantastic! The room was beyond beautiful, clean and well kept. There were fresh flowers and a whole directory on the area. Thomas was so wonderful to accomodate our early arrival. The views are to die-for and the pool was the perfect oasis. A quick walk down to a private deck and plenty of animal watching. We had monkeys, birds and even walnut trees and mango trees in our own back yard. Our next trip to CR will definitely include Villa Malinche!!!

  • A lost paradise!
I went to Costa Rica for a wedding in Mid-January in San Jose and decided to explore Manuel Antonio as well. It was so hard to find a place to stay until I found Villa Malinche. The place is just like in the pictures if not better. My experience was like I was away in a lost paradise, enjoying every evening cooking on the grill and the admiring the sunsets. Thomas was very helpful with all the information on the area and he even booked a tour for us!

One evening we had a nice surprise visit by a group of monkeys, we felt like we were lost in the jungle. We took some great pictures of monkeys flying from one tree to another!

If you are looking for a place to stay in Manuel Antonio, I will totally recommend Villa Malinche. The price is very good if you compare it to other places and the place is beautiful, private and clean. My only recommendation is if you are going to rent a car, it will be better to have a small SUV as the house is up in a hill (therefore the great sunsets and views). We had a Suzuki swift, which was very small. We were able to make it up the hill but it would have been easier with a better car.

I will love to go back to Villa Malinche!

Thanks Thomas & Lili for share your home with us.

About
Moved from Switzerland 15 years ago, just love it here! The people are "pura vida", life is so easy, the climate is very healthy! Very lucky to have purchased a big piece of property in the Playa Macha area, declared as green area, where I offer the Tree House and Villa Malinche. It's almost like the National Park, lot's of wildlife and very peaceful, surrounded by lush rain forest! My wife Lili is a licensed physic therapist, also with a great dedication for massage treatments, she can make you feel in heaven.... Don't miss an in-home treatment during your stay! We are happy to share this relaxed jungle feeling on our property with the people we meet through Airbnb. Just lay back in the hammocks, taste the famous coffee and watch the monkeys fly by...
