Faya Lobi has two floors and is about 200 meters from the beautiful, long sandy beaches of Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge in the small village of Manzanillo on Costa Rica’s Caribbean Coast. A perfect spot for a beach and nature vacation near Puerto Viejo. The beach in Manzanillo is fantastic! You can walk kilometers in both directions.
Once in the Wildlife Refuge there are many trees where you can find sloths, howler monkeys and toucans, just to name a few because there are obviously many more species.
There are two terraces (above and below) where you can lie in the hammock or sit in one of the seats to enjoy the peace and tranquility.
The bedrooms are surrounded by a beautiful landscape and the building has an open structure which one can enjoy the outdoors. Each bedroom has a bathroom with toilet, sink, a nice hot water shower (non electric!), spacious, handmade mosquito netting and fan. The four bedrooms on the top floor is good for 8 sleeps.
In the bedroom on the ground floor may also sleep two. Bed linen and towels are provided.
There is a fully equipped kitchen (toast oven, fridge / freezer, coffee maker, kettle, rice cooker, iron grill, gas cooker, juicer, pots, plates, cutlery, cups and glasses) is located between the bedrooms to prepare your breakfast, lunch or dinner while simultaneously enjoying the view of our garden which is very likely that there may be a hummingbird flies by or a howler is hanging in one of the trees in the backyard. There is also the possibility to watch television via satellite or using your laptop via our wifi system. There is a selection of small supermarkets just minutes walk to do your shopping. There are several restaurant (s) and sodas to find around the corner when you do not want to cook.
On the ground floor is a terras with chairs and a hammock looking out over the garden with tropical flowers, plants and trees. There are several books you can read at your leisure or you can even make an exchange for one of your books.
Parking is available on site for several cars / RV / boat / trailer.
We offer free wifi for 4 laptops at the house.
Internet and / or wifi are present within walking distance in the nearby pizzeria, an ice cream shop or Maxi’s restaurant.
If you have any problems or questions during your visit, our house manager Katherine will be just a few steps away from you as she stay at the rear of the house where there is a private entrance to our home so your privacy will be maintained.
Although the house is built to accommodate 8-10 people , still even for couples, smaller groups or families it’s ideal because of it’s cozy bedrooms and the separate comfortable living room and open plan kitchen. The house is only 200 meters from the white sandy beach, surrounded by beautiful countryside.

We had a lovely time at Casa Faya Lobi. It is set in a beautiful garden and we spent quite some time watching a humming bird on its nest just next to the terrace and sneaky land crabs down on the ground. Many birds take a short cut through the open terrace too. The house is comfortable and my only criticism would be the quality of the kitchen equipment. Enough knives to open a knife shop but mostly plastic drinking glasses and ancient saucepans. Apart from that fab. thank you.
11 of us , coming from 6 different states flew into costa rica and rented faya lobi for a reunion/ my 30th birthday adventure! The planning for this trip started well in advance and we were so lucky to have found this amazing house. Patricia and michael were perfect communicators and were crucial in our experience going so smoothly. They helped with lists of things to do around manzanillo and puerto viejo, information about tours and transportation from san jose. So very quick to answer any and every question with great detail and care.
The house itself was so perfect for our group. We fit 11 very comfortably. The living room/ kitchen area held so many memories created every night. The walk to the beach was super short and there are many beautiful beaches along the way to puerto viejo for a cheap bus or bike ride. We felt so safe and comfortable in the beach town and loved every minute of our time there together.
Great overall experience! Spacious accomodation, loungy open hangout area with sky tv and bar. for five girls just perfect! Although we never cooked dinner all cooking facilities are provided. Minor problems were solved instantly. Manzanillo is a really laid back village so we often drove up the coast for dining in puerto viejo. Which if you don't have your own car it's easy to rent a bike or take the puplic bus.
We enjoyed the beach very much, which is not far away from the casa, and also ta hike into the near refugio nac. de Vida silvestre gandoca - manzanillo is highly recommended.
Casa Faya Lobi is a perfect getaway for a larger group.
Thank you Patricia and Michiel
Casa Faya Lobi was indeed a perfect getaway! My wife and I traveled with another couple to this amazing part of Costa Rica this past July. We were met by Patricia And Michiel, who were two of the nicest people and you could not ask for a better host. They were both very welcoming and made sure that we were very comfortable on our stay. They introduced us to the local people and suggested many great things to do while there. If ever in this magical part of the country, I strongly recommend staying at Casa Faya Lobi. The house was just as beautiful as the pictures and was very clean. It is located in a perfect spot just a short walk to the beach and very close to a few sodas and grocery stores. We were surrounded by beautiful sights and sounds of the wildlife, so make sure to bring your binoculars!
Thank you Patricia And Michiel for giving us a great and very memorable experience in Costa Rica! And we will be back!
I found this gem for my 30th birthday and it was absolutely perfect! Patricia, Michiel, & Voss were fantastic hosts. The house is beautiful, the beds are comfortable to sleep in, and it is very easy to get around town to the various sodas and beaches by walking from their house. Manzanillo is a great sleepy beach town, but the night life is just a couple km away. We went to a few different beaches, snorkeled in the reefs off the beach, and ate at a new place each meal. Patricia organized for us to go zip lining and it was a blast. My only complaint is that I didnt stay long enough. :) Can't wait to go back!
What a great house! Although we only stayed a couple of nights, it was wonderful. 2 bedrooms, really nice bathroom and shower, fridge, kitchen and lovely deck with hammock to listen to the sounds of the jungle. Wireless USB available if you bring a laptop. Security Gate makes it secure to leave and explore the area. Manzanillo is a little community about 15 K south of Puerto Viejo. Michael and Patricia are very nice and accomodating. I would really recommend this house to anyone wanting to explore the 'other' Costa Rica!
We had the priviledge to stay at Casa Faya Lobi for 4 nights. We had a rental vehicle which turned out to be useful for getting around. Patricia met us when we first checked in on our first day and she was very welcoming and friendly. We were impressed with the house and loved that everything was in an open space.
Because of the nature of the house being in open air, there were lizards and toads at night though we never saw them in the actual bedrooms. The house was pretty clean, though we did give the cutlery and plates a good wash before using them.
The bedrooms were a good size, with mosquito netting canopies that kept the bugs out at night and allowed us to keep our windows open. Each bedroom had it's own private bathroom as well.
The bathrooms were pretty clean as well but one of the stand up showers did not drain fast enough so water would pool at the bottom of the shower stalls.
We enjoyed having coffee in the outdoor kitchen in the morning and relaxing in the hammock provided. It was a cozy space and quite pretty at night when we lit up the candles provided by our hosts and plugged in the twinkle/christmas lights in the kitchen.
Casa Faya Lobi is a short walk away from the local beach which was great for people watching. We didn't spend too much time in Manzinillo however, opting to drive to other parts which were close by (i.e. Puerto Viejo, Playa Negra) where there were more options for dining.
Casa Faya lobi was indeed a perfect getaway! We had a group of 4 stay for almost a month, and it felt like our own jungle home-away-from-home. We loved the location - only a few steps from the beach, and close to everything in Manzanillo. Patricia and Michael were so helpful and kind. They were excellent hosts - helping us with everything from booking a trip to Panama, advising on things to do in the area, and where to get the best food for the best prices. If we ever needed anything they were always there to help. The house felt very safe, and we felt completely at home. We bought groceries and cooked at home, did our laundry, and even had an in-house cooking lesson from a local chef. We had everything we needed. We would highly recommend staying at Casa Faya Lobi!
This home is at the wonderful end of the Caribe. The Caribe is usually underated since it has beautiful, unobstructed beaches, wild animals everywhere; you can be awakened by amazing animals and birds that exist few places!
Our host and hostess were out of the country, so we cannot speak to their hospitality as with the other reviews. However, Dominique was very welcoming and we ran into her often during the two days and had very pleasant conversations. The dogs followed us to the beach via a hole in the fence and we enjoyed romping around with them.
I loved the open air accommodations and the hot water shower. However, the furniture was old and in need of upgrading, bathroom fittings, the shower floor, the general condition of the house needs much attention, especially at the price of $59/night. If rented as it is, and if I knew it was rustic and in need of repair, I think I would gladly pay $20/night for the location. Still in all, a hide-away at the end of the road.
Dear Liza, Thank you very much for your review. Seriously we have to say that we didn't had a good view on all of the aspects that need to be upgraded at this moment since we are gone for five months now. Not that this can be of any excuse because certain things could have been done before leaving Costa Rica. Finally we will return next week so we can work on certain things you've mentioned in your review. To leave it in the hands of a manager is not the same thing as when you are there yourself on the spot. I do like to mention that the rate of $59 only counts for guests that rent it as a whole private accommodation. That's why it was okay by us to rent it out for $35 a room. We did actually changed some of the furniture not such a long time ago so that's a bit of a surprise there. But don't forget us wrong we do agree that some things need an upgrade. We will start with the kitchen, bathrooms and lightening as soon as we get back. You are more than welcome to pass by in the future to have a look at the changes we have made by then to upgrade our place. Muchimas graçias y saludos from Patricia, Michael and Voss
