Interaction with Guests
I love Asheville and I love to share my enthusiasm for Asheville. I grew up nearby, so I know the area really well. If guests don't want to interact, I respect that. But if they want to chat about Asheville, or need anything at all, I'm available! Our house is just in front.
Montford is the historic neighborhood adjacent to downtown. The Visitors Center is located here because it is a beautiful neighborhood, walkable to everything!
Downtown, the Greenway, UNCA/Botanical Gardens, 5 Points Neighborhood, -- all walkable. Hike to the Grove Park Inn in 30 minutes. A taxi to the heart of downtown is $8. The city bus goes straight down Montford towards downtown every 20 minutes. You are 2 minutes from I-240, so you can get to the Smokies in 90 minutes, the Appalachian Trail in one hour 15 min, Pisgah National Forest in 45 minutes, Black Mountain in 20 minutes, and Chimney Rock in 45 minutes.

No smoking. No pets.
Rebecca was welcoming and given that I was staying for 4 months made accommodations to make her space work better for my needs.
The location is excellent, for the price I don't think you'll find anything comparable.
Asheville is a magical place and this location will leave you in awe, don't stay home. If you have no plans wander the neighborhood and take in the beautifully restored homes. Downtown isn't too far and the walk is scenic.
Overall, this feels like your own magical cottage in the woods, but it is right next to downtown. The host doesn't emphasize the loft area, but there is a futon mattress and plenty of space if you wanted to sleep up there and put the murphy bed away and practice yoga or whatever you really wanted.
Also, there is a TV with a DVR, which was a treat for me since I've long since unplugged from cable. HGTV binges on rainy days.
Enjoy your stay in Asheville!
We stayed in this cottage for a weekend trip to Asheville and had an absolutely terrific experience. Rebecca was an great host who was incredibly helpful and attentive when we had questions. The cottage is quite large, very clean and in a gorgeous neighborhood. For people wanting a great location to downtown this place is perfect. It's about a 20 min walk to the center of downtown or $8.00 cab ride. We will definitely try to stay here again next time we visit Asheville.
Buyer beware - this listing is way overpriced for the value.
From the very beginning of our month-long stay, our experience at this Shingle Cottage property was disappointing. Although the owners have made an effort to make it look nice in the listing, there are many things missing or broken at the property. When we first arrived, we found that you cannot take a bath without the shower running, the cheaply-made clothes dresser was falling apart, and there were no sharp knives or baking pans in the kitchen, etc.
The owners had an attitude of disinterest -- for example, they never did address the plumbing issue, and during our stay the alarm system beeped madly for 3 days before they replaced the battery. On the day of our departure, they insisted they had left a laundry basket there, which we had never even seen. Hopefully, they will develop more of an interest in providing an experience for guests which justifies the premium they are charging.
I recently stayed in this cottage for a full month while visiting Asheville taking master yoga training workshops. I found it to be a perfect set up with everything I needed. The location is perfect. It is in the beautiful historic Montford district, close to downtown, and yet private and quiet. The owner, Rebecca, was extremely gracious and helpful. If I needed anything, she would respond quickly and was extremely personable, while respecting my privacy. One of my favorite Asheville restaurants, Nine Mile, is just down the block. I would highly recommend this place and plan to return here during the coming year.
One Word: Lovely...we had a great one week stay in this quaint-yet modern, spacious and centrally located property in historic Montfort. Located walking distance to downtown and restaurants. Why stay anywhere else. Truthfully...we were hesitant to give a great review because we want it to be available when we visit again. Rebecca is friendly and very helpful; willing to answer all your questions about Asheville. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.
This is an amazing little spot in a beautiful neighborhood. Rebecca is super friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this lovely little cottage, especially if you like to walk and enjoy the sights and parks. Thanks Rebecca!
We had a great time staying at this cottage near downtown Asheville during Moogfest 2014. Host was very friendly and helpful during our stay. Cottage was nicely furnished, quiet, and location/proximity to downtown was great. We also enjoyed disc golf at the Richmond Hill park and an (email hidden) arboretum.
My family and I enjoy tennis, walks around our historic neighborhood, enjoying Asheville's downtown and traveling. Our favorite travel destination is the Hill Country of Texas. Vietnamese and Greek food are among our favorites.
We renovated the house and cottage ourselves.
