Interaction with Guests
Very limited because I am often not home to greet them. However, I am always available by phone.
I love that if feels secluded yet it's so close to town. It's very quiet and peaceful. There are so many things to do within 1/2 hour.
There is no convenient public transportation however Occidental is within reasonable walking distance.

I loved the place and the location! Occidental was a great small town. We had an easy time booking, checking in and leaving with Danielle. I wish we stayed longer.
Danielle was an excellent host and I am glad that I got to meet her during my stay! She was very welcoming and accommodating. The kitchen had all the necessities for home cooked meals as well as some coffee, tea and mineral water that was provided! The bathroom was clean and fully stocked with towels and toilet paper. The bed was so amazingly comfortable! Her place was definitely a cozy piece of solitude tucked away into the woods. I was sad to leave! We only stayed one night on our way back home from a trip up north so we did not get to enjoy the hiking trails as we has hoped, so we will have to plan another visit for that! There was a book provided that had a map and tons of information about the surrounding area and sites to see! I would recommend the Carriage House to anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city but wants to relax in comfort while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors.
Danielle was welcoming when we met her a few hours after checking in. She left us some fruit, oatmeal and coffee for breakfast! The studio was clean and perfect for us (we have a young daughter and brought a pack n play! Danielle also gave us suggestions for restaurants and wineries, Lynmar was a great one and had amazing gardens! Thank you Danielle. We had a wonderful stay!
The main room was perfect, meaning it was cozy, modern (pretty new interior) and was everything I expected based on previous reviews. The bed, in an alcove, was comfortable, with a plethora of covers and pillows (that I didn’t use). The bathroom (with shower, no bathtub) was great, with lots of hot water available, although I minimized its used (drought). Organically-grown fruit filled a fruit bowl, with organic oatmeal, carbonated water and other items in the refrigerator. I don’t remember everything else that was there—I think, a coffee maker that I obviously didn’t use. As the photo shows, the room is above a carport that seems only long enough for a carriage (horse-drawn?), as its name implies, so it’s completely separate and private from the owner’s house.
The Wi-Fi worked great, and was necessary for communication with the outside world, since my cell phone reception (Sprint) was non-existent.
Of course, there is a staircase leading up to the room (no elevator), so it’s not convenient for the wheelchair-bound. And, it’s in the middle of an incredible redwood forest, with a clearing sufficient to let in the sunshine. It’s close to town (Occidental) with charming, narrow roads winding between the redwoods leading to the carriage house (similar to the other roads in the area).
In brief, I enjoyed my weekend stay. And the
Our first experience using Airbnb was a great one. Our host had the cozy place sparkling clean. We slept with the windows open and the cool coastal air was refreshing. It was so quiet in the redwood forest. We discovered lots of options for day trips and hikes from the place.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay of a few days.
The carriagehouse was great! Perfect for our short weekend stay. Coffee & tea were available, nice hot shower, and everything was clean.
So beautiful in the redwoods. What I didn't get immediately from the listing is this place is right in the redwoods in the middle of the forest. We loved this place. It was a very nice retreat. It was clean and pretty. Our favorite part was the walk through the redwoods on a trail that goes into the tiny town of Occidental.
