Absolutely perfect house with a great location. We couldn't have asked for anything else. Thank you!
We had the most enjoyable and relaxing weekend we have had away in a really, really long time! Elizabeth's home was clean, spacious, warm, inviting, and best of all, right on the water! I would go so far as to say the pictures don't do her home any justice!
Everything we could have needed was provided for us (which we weren't expecting but really appreciated).
There is a lot to do on the property itself - kayaking ($20/kayak very fair price), paddle boating (free!), fishing (lots of fishing!), and a beautiful neighborhood for a run! I would recommend this property for any occasion.
Elizabeth was a joy to work with! Can't wait to book our trip for next year!
We had a great time at the cabin! The water access and dock are wonderful and we had a great time hanging out there and in the water. The pond is super clean and beautiful to kayak and paddleboat on. There are tons of outdoor seating options, and the firepit was awesome for s'mores! Elizabeth checked us in and out, and the cabin had everything we needed for a long weekend. We'll definitely be back!
We had a fantastic stay at Elizabeth's cabin! We enjoyed kayaks and peddle boat that came with the house. Great outdoor area with fire pit and grill. Elizabeth was a great host!
Elizabeth was a pleasure to rent from. She was very accommodating and laid back. Her cottage is quite rustic and camp-like as she had described and that's exactly what we were looking for. Almost everything you could need is supplied and the washer and dryer are a big bonus. Despite the concentration of cottages around the pond, the pond itself was pretty quiet even on the weekends. A jet ski might zip by every once in a great while but almost all of the water traffic is by kayak. The proximity to Rte 302 is very convenient for all your shopping needs with one caveat - the sound of the road traffic across the pond which we eventually got used to. Overall, a lovely host and stay.
Our stay was wonderful on Pettingill Pond. It's a private pond on the lakefront with a dock. The cabin was very beautiful and had everything we needed. It was very peaceful and beautiful there. It was great to be able to bring our dog. He loved it there. There were a few restaurants in the surrounding towns and Blacksmiths Winery in Casco. We hope to stay again.
Overall, we had a great stay at Elizabeth's lake house. Our kids really enjoyed swimming, fishing and boating on the beautifully clear lake. The house/cottage is lovely - very spacious and warm.
A few things, however, took us by surprise after our booking and upon arrival. Separate from the Air bnb fees, Elizabeth expected a $200 (cash) security deposit (which she requested in a text a few days prior to our arrival). We did get the $200 back upon check out, but was not cash (personal check). Furthermore, upon arrival we were told the propane tank for the BBQ was empty and that we would need to fill it, if we were planning to use the BBQ (a whole tank for our 2 day stay!). Also, the airbnb site indicated there were kayaks and a paddle boat on site for use. However, while making the reservation Elizabeth said the kayaks were available to rent at $20/day (unclear if that was per kayak or for both). At check in, she wanted $100 for the kayaks for both days. This seemed much more than we had discussed and she was very reluctant to negotiate or discuss. In the end, we paid $50 extra and agreed to only use one kayak during our stay.
So, unfortunately, our overall experience at Elizabeth's great get-away lake house was soured by all of the above concerns.
I definitely learned a lot from the Young-Pen family staying at my camp. I wanted to be generous with the use of parking for their additional guests (an entire other family in an RV) but I found it very rude that they plugged into my outside outlet without asking and ran their air conditioner all day and night. Camps do not usually come with linens, but because they were traveling across country I did offer them. Camps also do not come with every single item you could need- you may have to buy your own soap, it's not a hotel! I said in the beginning that I do not keep track of the propane. There is a grill there for you to use or not use. I can't find any where on my site where it says the kayaks come with the camp. I gave them a check because I let them stay later and I could not be around to inspect the camp with their being there- based on the way they were behaving, I did not know what to expect.
In the end it all seemed to work out. And, I would like to add, that they left the camp cleaner than anyone ever has and that was really appreciated.
