Location, Location, Location. This beautiful apartment is in the popular Yaw Min Gyi area a short walk to Shwedagon P(website hidden), Bo Gyoke markets and Sule Shangri-la hotel, downton Yangon.
We have spent a lot of time setting up our apartment - an old Myanmar style home now with all the mod cons. Ideally situated in the very popular Yaw Min Gyi area and just a short 5 minute walk over the railway bridge to downtown.
Small and very comfortable guest room with king size bed. Use of the whole apartment including the kitchen (Myanmar style so no oven!), lounge room with Projector to watch movies on, hook up computer to, small, nice balcony overlooking the street, and a Myanmar style shower room (shower and toilet are in the same room but western style toilet and hot water), 'Make Your Own' breakfast provided - eggs, bread, jams, pancakes, fruit, coffee, tea & milk (Unless Sly, our housekeeper is in to cook you breakfast) plus WIFI internet throughout the whole house.
Interaction with Guests
You will be sharing with us - we are a young couple who are here to help. We love this town, know it very well and love to help you find your way around!
Leafy, lovely street nestled just behind Parkroyal hotel full of great western and local restaurants and noodle houses, convenience stores, a large supermarket nearby and only a short walk across the bridge to downtown.
Walking and taxis are the main ways of getting around Yangon. Taxis are everywhere and very cheap.
Other Things to Note
Although we are here to welcome anyone travelling to Myanmar we would be very helpful in accommodating people moving to Yangon who need a centrally located place to stay in before they find their new home. As we are now settled we have plenty of knowledge to help you settle here too.
Please keep in mind this is Myanmar where power outages do occur and the water can go off from time to time. The upside is we are in a good neighbourhood and it usually does not last very long. As we are also in a very active Buddhist country there can be festivals in the neighbourhood with a lot of chanting.
Smoking only on balcony. Please treat our home like you would yours!
We stayed here 3 nights, Alex was out of town During our stay ,but the housekeeper let us in, gave us the keys and so we had the place to ourselves which was nice.
Plenty of good places to eat within walking distance, local & expat style....whatever you want.
Funnily it was just around the corner from my Husbands work mate, which was very handy..
Bed was good, and AC worked well...not loud..
We have seen a few houses in down town Yangon, and this is quiet typical, a grubby look from outside and surprisingly comfy inside...with the things that one needs for a weekend in Yangon .....nice Beamer & DVD collection......you can only walk so far in one day, sometime in the day it's nice to sit down with the AC & DVD on......
The street noise didn't bother us at all, Down Town Yangon is full of life.....so if you are looking for a tranquil weekend, this is not your spot...but in our room , we didn't hear the street at all. In fact having a coffee sitting on the little balcony is a great people whatching spot.
We knew that the water supply in the city is a problem....and we got hit ...but there was a good supply of drinking water in the (email hidden) as the saying goes "This is Mayanmar ". Alex did write and surgest we use the local Hotels spa facilities , but we had left for day before we got this info....
All in all we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend it to our friends.
I couldn't imagine a nicer place to stay in Yangon! It was just perfect. Alex was an incredible host who made us feel very much at home. He was very helpful !And Sly was also great and an amazing spicy food cook, too!
The location is great. We could do almost everything by foot. Quite a few delicious food places just around the corner.
It was the perfect start for our holiday in Myanmar. Thank you so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Alex's house. Great location. Easy walk to centre of Yangon. Alex very helpful with local information. Clean room. Comfy bed. Alex and Saskia were lovely hosts.
A nice homely place with very helpful host Alex and Saskia at a perfect location in middle of central Yangon. Had a lovely time. Try the massage at the Sangrila Spa, a drink at Bar Boon, the restaurant Feel etc.
Alex and Saskia's apartment in Yangon has a lot of character and is extremely well located in the city. Even though we didn't meet them they seem lovely and it was easy to communicate with Alex through messages. Another great stay :)
Alex and Saskia made me very welcome in their wonderful apartment
I arrived with the worst jet lag i have experienced and they just left me to recover my bearings. the apartment is superb and my hosts were marvelously tolerant as i was on a working visit. Any questions i had were answered and any advice need, gladly given. Overall it was a lovely experience, being situated very centrally, with Bogyoke Market, Aung Shan restaurant on the corner, and everything else within walking distance. I cant rate them highly enough as hosts
We are an Australian-German couple living and working in Yangon. We move around a lot for our work which we really enjoy as we love to travel and explore the world!
