Interaction with Guests
I provide a lot of information on what is interesting to see in the area, and hope you enjoy my home as you would your own.
I will make sure to be available to answer your questions should you have any during your stay.
This is a peaceful town, with a medieval origin and Dartmoor National park streams running through it. Go feed the ducks or sit in the 'Singing Kettle' cafe or 'The Seed' cafe/health food shop, to get a local taste of the place. Or walk onto the national park through the woods, or a stroll to Buckfast Abbey and to Hembury woods and River Dart swimming spots.
For children there is also a local Butterfly Farm and Otter Sanctuary as well as a steam train ride along the River Dart to Totnes. At sunset you can view bats in motion near the pre-historical caves or arrange a daytime guided tour to Joint Mitnor Cave (containing unfossilised remains of bison, hippopotamus, hyaena, elephant and others).
A short drive to Dartmoor Natural Park's many beauty spots and walks (maps and guide books for walks available) as well as beautiful beaches.
Only 15 minutes drive to Totnes, famous funky alternative and historical town (catch the weekend market), 25 minutes to the cities of Exeter or Plymouth. A car is very useful to getting around outside of the towns, though there is a bus stop 2 min. away with buses to Exeter, Plymouth, Ashburton, Totnes and infrequent buses to Dartmoor.
Bus 88 from Exeter, Totnes and Newton Abbot stops near the house. You can catch a train to the nearest stations in Totnes or N.Abbot, however it's best to arrive here by car to be able to explore the moorland and beaches freely.
Other Things to Note
I will leave a welcome pack with information about the best beaches, walking maps and neighbourhood activities (inc rock climbing, swimming pool, prehistoric caves).
Logs for your first wood burning fire will be available in the basket. Additional logs for longer stays can be purchased and brought over from the local garage.
We look forward to welcoming you,
Sho & Yamuna
No smoking. Being careful and responsible if lighting wood burner and candles. And when using electric heater in the garden studio please do not leave it on when you are out.
I spent a lovely couple of nights in the yoga studio which was very cosy with the woodburner keeping me warm. Sho is a very welcoming and friendly host and I was able to shower and have breakfast in her lovely home as well as enjoying the peace and privacy of the studio.
Shoshana made us and our little dogs very welcome and lit a fire in the wood burning stove for us. She had a lovely breakfast ready for us in the morning. We had an early morning appointment in Plymouth which was quick and easy to get to.
Hello Josephine, it was very lovely to meet you and your little dogs - they enchanted us! I'm glad you enjoyed the wood burning fire in the garden studio... : ) I haven't found a way to put up curtains over doors without it being a fire hazard as next to the wood burner. If you have any idea how to fireproof the fabric, being a seamstress ; ), let me know! x
My boyfriend and I had the most magical stay with Sho. Sho is a wonderful human and host and the yoga studio is a really special place. We stayed for two nights and didn't want to leave, we will definitely be going back if we can. Sho was a wonderful host, and cooked the most delicious breakfast, and guided us on a stunning and bracing walk across Dartmoor. Sho provides way more on all levels than a normal AirBnB host. I thoroughly recommend staying with Sho if you are looking for some peace alone, or a romantic break.
I stayed in Sho' garden room for 2 nights. It was very relaxing, especially if you make fire in wood burning stove...! Sho also makes great coffee in the morning, which is essential if you plan long walks in the countryside around.
Our short stay at Shoshana's neat and quiet Yoga Studio was really worth it. Buckfastleigh is really cute little town not far from beaches, local farms and interesting places. Shoshana was a lovely host we had the chance to practice mediation with her and share a lot of our interests.
The Yoga Studio is a small inspiring place to be and it's great to wake up and step out into the garden. We would definitely come back.
A great place to relax.
Shoshana is a very friendly and easy-going host who made us feel welcome at her lovely house and the atmospheric yoga studio.
Buckfastleigh is also well placed to explore Devon, be it the country or the coast.

After years of living in Asia I wanted to live close to nature and settled in a small Devon countryside town in UK, where I live with my daughter. I help people build healthier and more caring lives through my business, Karuna Detox, a health fast detox retreat, where I teach yoga, meditation, healthy lifestyle and nutrition.
I enjoy people and places that have heart and are relaxed and real. Peaceful, beautiful, artistic people and places inspire me.
