  • Wendy and Patrick were delightful hosts who made us feel totally welcome at their secluded house and cabin in the garden. Wendy cooked a delicious meal on our first night, as we had a long drive from Greymouth. The surrounding area was very beautiful, especially Wharakiki Beach and Totaranui, although the drive to Totaranui is not for the faint-hearted. Also ate at Penguins Bar in Pohana which was good value, but Takaka was a bit lacking in good places to eat, although the supermarket was excellent for self catering.

  • This cabin is a good economic option to stay in Golden Bay. The best thing though are the hosts! Wendy and Pat gave us many great tips about what to see in the area. There were many beautiful places nearby to see and great tracks to walk. We also really enjoyed the breakfast in their lovely terrace looking to the wonderful garden.

  • Wendy and Patrick are wonderful hosts we really felt like returning "home." 2 nights was actually too short as we were told when we arrived wendy. They gave us valuable advice and allowed to return with one of our best memories of New Zealand.
Thank you very much you two! Caroline & Caroline

  • What a blast! Wendy and Patrick are the kind of people you just want to stay and hangout with. But since Golden Bay was calling we answered and followed all of their recommendations and had the times of our lives. Definite don't miss!

  • Hey New Zealand Fans!
Our stay at Wendy & Patrick was as amazing and beautiful as the country itself. Had a great time onsite at golden beach, investigated a lot, got great tips and hints what to do and made friends for life.
We already have plans to come to NZ again and get that warm feeling again! :-D
    Thank you very much!

  • We had a lovely time staying with Wendy and Patrick. The sleep out was cosy and had every thing we needed, my partner especially enjoyed having a play on the piano! Wendy and Patrick were incredibly friendly and really helped us make the most of our short stay with them. Our only disappointment was that we couldn't stay for longer. Very highly recommended!

  • Wendy and Pat are absolutely amazing people! From the moment we arrived (greeted with tea and a beer), we felt like we were with family. We felt very welcomed, and yet, had a sense of privacy while in our cabin. The cabin was perfect for us because we don't require much. Very clean and simple. We were more than comfortable walking over to the house to shower or use the bathroom facilities. Each morning we shared a light breakfast and great conversation. They gave us amazing insight about the area, and offered us maps and their favorite destinations. Wish we could have stayed longer...and experienced the fire bath!! We stayed in 5 different homes during our trip to New Zealand, and this was our favorite. Not only did we have a great stay, but we made new friends. Thanks for everything!!

  • Wendy and Patrick were such kind hearted people. They welcomed us into their home like we were old friends. The cabin is a great value and we had a blast being in the countryside of Golden Bay and wished we could have spent more time there!

  • I felt very welcome and at home with Wendy & Patrick. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay with them and in the area in general, which is absolutely fantastic! The little cabin I slept in is right next to their house, and while it is basic, it is clean and you are provided with all the tools and tips to make your stay highly comfortable. I was always welcome to have a shower in their home, which was greatly appreciated.

You will love their hospitality, tips for day-trips and the stories they share.

    Thumbs up!

  • Pat and Wendy were absolutely fantastic! We loved our cabin and it was easy access to everything we wanted to do in around Abel Tasman. Pat and Wendy gave great suggestions about the area and made you feel right at home.

The cabin is comfortable and it's just outside of town. It's quiet and you can see the stars and milky way so vibrantly from there. Very little light pollution if you want some peace and quiet without having to go far.

We had no idea about all the things we could do in Golden Bay and wish that we could have extended our trip further. There is kayaking, inexpensive flight tours ($40 NZD), beautiful beach walks, fly fishing, hiking and caves.

I would certainly come back to Takaka for our wonderful hosts. We spent our time zigzagging through NZ but Takaka ended up being one of our favorite spots. Small town and friendly folks.
