About this listing
I offer a thoughtfully furnished bedroom in a clean, friendly, well-equipped apartment where you will feel at home and have the experience of living like a real New Yorker. I am a reliable, experienced host and will ensure your trip is great.
My description below should answer all of your questions about me, the apartment and neighbourhood. If I have left anything out, please ask!
★ THE APARTMENT ★
The apartment is sunny and large with an open space for living. The apartment features three bedrooms a fully equipped kitchen and a living room. It is located on the 4th floor of a turn of the century walkup building.
The apartment is nearly identical to the photos, with some upgrades and additions to the furniture (it's actually better decorated and organized for utility than in the photos). I maintain a minimalistic lifestyle so the apartment is uncluttered and kept clean.
I live in one bedroom in the apartment, and each of the two rooms are available for rent. This bedroom can accommodate 2 people, for larger groups, the other bedroom can be rented. There is also a sofa couch in the living room that I occasionally allow groups to also rent, it's perfect for odd number groups of 3 or 5 people.
This bedroom has high-value and is inexpensive, meaning you are getting a great compromise between price and quality - especially in Manhattan. It is perfect for either vacations or business trips.
★ THE NEIGHBORHOOD ★

The neighborhood is safe, friendly and lively. The apartment is centrally located between 2 subway lines which makes getting nearly anywhere in Manhattan easy.

Only two last things (thanks for reading this far!)
• If you're booking for more than 2 people, it is important to contact me before you book to ensure the second bedroom or space in the living room is available
• Also, if it isn't clear, I will be home during your stay. This is a shared-space situation (the privacy part of the listing means that you'll have a private bedroom), but a fun, clean, inexpensive one nonetheless.
I live right between 2 subway stations, the 1 train station (2 minute walk), and the express A,B,C,D train station. Using both of these makes getting to and from anywhere in Manhattan easy. You can see the locations of these on the attached map.
Rules Yes, I have to have a couple ;-) Please follow them to make living in the apartment easy.
1.Remove your shoes at the front door, wearing shoes in the apartment brings in dirt from the street. The cleaning lady sweeps and mops the floors regularly. There is a dollar store next door if you want to buy a $2 pair of flip flops to wear in the apartment.
no smoking in the apartment.
3.Don’t eat my food. You can use my condiments and coffee, but not the food.
4.Clean up after yourself. If you cook, be sure to do your dishes and wipe the counter. Please don’t leave a bunch of hair in the shower! (use TP to pick it up!)
5.Turn off appliances before you leave the apartment for the (website hidden): turn off air conditioners and space heaters while you are not in the apartment. These consume a lot of electricity.
Our stay at Ken's apartment was very pleasant. The neighborhood is very safe and the apartment location is great, very close to two subway stations. The room has a comfortable bed and is suitable for me and my wife. Great option for those who will spend the day in town and just need a good place to sleep.
Ken was always polite and discreet. He was available to take any questions and give tips on the city. For us, the best breakfast option was the Kuro Kama!
The stay worth it, especially for the price :)
Kevin's place is great especially if you are just going to go there to sleep. Metro is like one block away and Max Café and Kitchentte are really close too for you to have a delicious breakfast. Ken is really nice and his print out was very helpful. Around the block, next to dunkin Donuts, there is place called Monumento de la Empanada....great for a quick snack!
The room is small, but worthy of the price, considering it is in Manhattan. It is very convenient for taking bus or train. Ken is very polite and with great hospitality.
Good location, Ken is really nice and helpful, provide a lot help during my stay in NYC.
We had a good time in Ken's apartment. Ken was not in the apartment when we arrived because of work. But Ken explain us how to find keys by mail. We didn't saw him a lot during our stay cause he had professional stuff to do. However the room and the apartment were clean. We really appreciated the mail Ken send us with restaurants and grocery stores around the block. The apartment was kind of well situated near different subway stations. We red other comments and we smell the sea food restaurant but only on the hall of the building that was not a real problem.
The few negatives points we noticed were :
- We were in Ken's apt during summer and the air conditionning inside the room was very noisy. So we had to turn it off to sleep.
- The bathroom was okay but the WC was not well fixed to the floor and moving.
- Sometimes it smelled weird (probably weed) in the floor and stairs but not in Ken's apt.
We still enjoyed our stay here even if we were out most of the time to visit NYC.
Ken was very friendly, approachable, easy to talk to. The listing and apartment was clean and as described. It's a great place to stay in New York at a great price if you want to be near the subway.
The apartment building that the listing is in is very old and rough, as is the rest of the neighbourhood. However, there were lots of families out and high police presence. Parking was fine on the street. We had a scare when our car went missing (later found out it was moved to another street by the city so that they could resurface the street, without notice. The local police station was friendly and helped us locate our car). Minus the car scare and adjusting to the neighbourhood, great location and would book again.
Ken's place is wonderful! Very clean, close to the subways and Columbia campus. He's accommodating and knows lots about the area. Highly recommend anybody stay here for the price.
