The Space

Elegant bedroom with high-quality, super comfy mattress!
There are a total of three guest bedrooms in this house. I have been able to accommodate teams of people in separate rooms (families attending a wedding, two friends in the same FDA program), but contact me as early as you can.

Easy access to the heart of DC (20-25 min) by car, or you can take a quick bus to the Silver Spring metro station.

Owner cares that guests like their stay so much, they wish to return. She's an encyclopedia of DC knowledge (but will not barrage you with information unless you want it).

Comfy private bedroom with beautiful view of the woods. Gorgeous brand new custom jacuzzi bathroom in the hall, shared by one other room.

Cable, WIFI and access to elegant kitchen for cooking.

Laundry available for $5/load extra.

Enjoy a meal on the patio, with a lovely water view out back.

There's a loving 20-pound dachshund named Riley and a 40-pound beagle/hound mix named Annie who live to be petted. They usually only bark when someone comes to the door.

  • My daughter and I had a very brief and comfortable stay with Sherri and Dave. They warmly welcomed us, gave us restaurant advice, and made us feel comfortable. The room was nice, with a view of the green space behind the building, and we had a bathroom to ourselves. Dave made a first class breakfast for us as well. Altogether a very pleasant stay.

  • We had a great time at Sherri and Davids beautiful home. They were super friendly and the breakfast was amazing! Plus they were relaxed with letting us use their kitchen and living room and had helpful tips what to do in the area. The room was nice and clean, the area very friendly and green.

  • I had the pleasure of staying with Sherri and David for a month. I had just gotten out of the military and they opened their home to me so I could get situated with my new job. The room is exactly as pictured. They make sure that you have a private bathroom and even make room for food if you should bring any home. I couldn't have stayed with a nicer couple. They were extremely informative about the area and even helped me when I moved in my new place. They go out of their way to make you feel like you are at home, and that was exactly how it felt when I stayed with them. It was a home away from home. The neighborhood is tucked away, with an amazing gorge, stream and forestry right in their backyard, but not to worry, all the comforts of grocery stores, restaurants, and even the highway are close around. If you are looking for a safe, warm and home away from home, then this is your place.

  • Sherri and David were super hospitable and considerate. We were so comfortable and slept soundly in the spacious, clean and quiet room downstairs. We were running late and Sherri was the utmost in kindness and even was outside waving when we pulled up, not sure if we were in the right place. Our first time using airbnb and they provided a gracious introduction!

  • Sherri and Dave were hospitable as always. I had their chocolate cake for dinner and for breakfast! I stayed in the different room and I slept like a baby like I did last time. I will always come back to their place whenever I'm in MD.

  • My first time on Airbnb. I don't usually travel alone and last time I did stay in a hotel I couldn't sleep. I slept like a baby at Dave and Sherri's house. I felt like home because it is home. The bed is really comfortable. Dave made the crispest bacons for breakfast! Both of them are really friendly. I don't feel weird staying with them at all. I get to hangout with the dogs too.

  • Can't say enough good things. A wonderful place to stay, and Sherri and Dave are exceptionally great people. They went above and beyond what anyone could reasonably expect.

  • Sherri and here fiance are gracious hosts, and their place is lovely. The bathroom is luxurious, the kitchen is large and well equipped, the mattress really is super comfortable, and the decorations throughout the entire house are so well done that they remind me of interior design magazines. Easy parking was available right in front of the door, and it is a short drive to downtown Silver Spring.

  • Sheri and her fiancé Dave were delightful hosts during my five weeks in Silver Spring devoted to downsizing for retirement. I needed to be close to the self storage for sorting and to see friends and business associates. I actually stayed in the downstairs suite and adjoining shower. Plenty of room to spread out luggage, documents, and nice to have a separate sitting area! It was damp in the basement but they provided a de-humidifier which resolved the problem. I had access to a shelf in the fridge where I could leave my food items. And access to the washer/dryer. there were two other guests at the house ( a scientist and a Vet student doing an internship and they provided lively discussions at night for dinner.

Minor improvements that could improve overall experience would be to place locks on the bedroom doors so one could lock your room when you went out. While I basically trust people, one cannot be certain of who is a guest and a lock would avoid any unpleasant circumstances. Also on the amenities page the Host could be more explicit: what are the benefits of a short term guest ( i.e. Breakfast) and what are the benefits of a long term guest ( reduced pricing but breakfast is up to the guest). But overall I enjoyed the friendliness of host and guests. Oh, you need to like dogs because they have two that like attention!

Welcome! PLEASE send a message and wait for my response (which is usually very quick) before sending a reservation request. We have been blessed with a lot of repeat guests so I want to be sure that we can accommodate you before you book. Respectfully, I will not allow pets -- though under the perfect circumstances, I have been known to bend this but ONLY WITH PRIOR PERMISSION. Do NOT show up with an animal without getting permission -- I will have to turn you away! I have two dogs (a shepherd/hound and a dachshund) and this is their home. Thanks! :) The Driving Commute: If you are heading to DC, and allow morning rush hour(s) to subside, it'll take you 25 min. by car to get into the heart of downtown DC. There's metered parking, parking garages, and even some free parking I can alert you about. A lot of driving guests will drive to the Silver Spring metro and park in a garage one block away for about $8.45/day. The Walking Commute: If you are without a car, it's a more daunting task. The bus stop is a 1/2 mile walk uphill (I live in a little valley next to a stream). The bus (Z6 or Z8) takes 20-30 min. to get to the Silver Spring metro station. It's about 30 min. on the train to Metro Center (the heart of the metro system and downtown). So expect at least an hour commute. It takes a while, but it's good for you -- I have had overweight guests lose multiple pants sizes by this handy-dandy exercise routine. :) VITAL: Although we am very kind and friendly, ALL guests in your party MUST be approved before acceptance. Absolutely no outside guests will be allowed to stay here, other than those pre-approved. The happiness and safety of my home, self and other guests is of utmost importance. Thank you so much for respecting this rule. Communicate with us.We are easy to talk to :) If you break or bleed on something, say something as soon as possible -- maybe we can help fix it. If you have problems working something, please ask. I can't fix what I don't know about. I'm human (no, really!) and I'll get my feelings hurt if a guest never says a word that can help me help them, and then airs their concerns in a review once it's too late to accommodate his or her needs. TEMPERATURE: My motto is fresh air whenever possible (usually healthier for you). This house is situated in a valley next to a stream with woods surrounding it, so it is buffered from the weather to some degree. In the summer, I tend to keep the air at around 74-76 and run dehumidifiers for improved air quality/comfort. In the winter, 67-68 at night and 69-73 during the day. If you want to be blasted with frigid a/c in the summer and prefer to walk around in t-shirts in the winter, the Airbnb experience might not be right for you :). That being said, we will do my best to accommodate your needs within reason. THE SKINNY ON US: My newlywed husband, David, and I, are an energetic, fun-loving couple who are very involved with sports (especially hiking, running and volleyball), friends, music (we both sing, and he plays guitar), good conversation, dinner parties, animal rescue, travel and church. We have an insanely high mortgage which we can't refinance currently, and it's kinda' nice to share this large home with kind-hearted, sensible folks in a way that helps to cover the bills :) For guests who are looking to relocate to DC, I am a real estate agent with WC&AN Miller in Bethesda. I am licensed in DC, VA and MD and would be happy to assist you in finding longer-term housing, whether for rental or purchase. I have helped at least a dozen guests to date find their perfect place! I love the trust they place in me. There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make your stay more comfortable: The high quality beds are fitted with bed-bug protecting covers (we've never had a problem and never plan to), the drinking water is filtered, the beds are comfy (don't believe me? Read the reviews!), and the WIFI is waiting! My mother raised me to "leave others better than you found them." It is our sincere hope and commitment that our guests realize this during their stay at this beautiful home. The hundreds of guests who've stayed here in the past five years--and the high number of repeat visitors--tells me that we must be doing something right!
