Let us know if you will be needing the shed for storage of your bikes etc, so I'll have a key for you.

Interaction with guests

First and foremost that would depend on you. If you would like to chat or have any questions or needs let me know. If I am here I will come and introduce myself to you. I've lived in Bend since 1990

The neighborhood

Our home sits on a quiet, no thru traffic street. We are just above the river trail. The river trail wraps around the west-side of Bend, and is loved by people who like to walk/bike/jog/ski/ swim (burr it's cold)but great on a hot day. If you are sitting on the deck outside at night you could hear the sounds of the roaring river from the First Street Rapids.

Getting around

You can walk or bike from here. We do have a transit system (BAT). If your intention is to get to the out lying areas I'd suggest having a vehicle

Other things to note

If you are bringing your dog make sure the dog has a license. The ticket for not having a dog on leash could run about $350.00. When you leave during the day please take your dog with you.

You will not be charged a cork fee at 1 of the restaurants in town if you bring a Washington or Oregon wine with you.

You have chosen a place that has unsurpassed hiking/kayaking/canoeing/skiing/birding/paddle

Thank you for choosing our place to stay while visiting/playing in Bend.

Gilead has a wonderful place, complete with convenience of being just a quick drive/walk from downtown. Very private, but she is accessible if you were to need anything. She has a beautiful collection of books, a kitchenette complete with coffee maker and mini fridge, and a very clean bathroom which was much appreciated. Check in was fairly easy, detailed instructions given. Would stay here again if we come to Bend again!!

Gilead was so friendly and thorough! Her house is super cute and everything you need she provides, we abaolutely felt taken care of. The essential bath products were the best and I can't wait to buy some. We are coming back this summer and will definately be staying here. Great location and walk ability.

I DO NOT RECCOMMEND THIS PROPERTY. This should be listed as a SHARED SPACE property for 2 people, not 4, and dogs should not be allowed because the owner will hassel you about them. The rented space is a portion of the owner's first floor. It has a very strong odor of essential oils that we did not like. It is a small living area with an outdated couch that is not a sleeper, and a small bedroom with a bad view of the neighbor's house and garbage in the yard. The property has a lot of rubbish stashed around and a broken hot tub that takes up the entire rented patio's covered space. Gilead was very invasive throughout our stay. She watched me and my family from her windows and listened to our conversation from a locked door to her part of the house and even commented on things she heard us say. She asked us where each person is sleeping in the unit. We were instructed to get our drinking water from the shower. SHE IS VERY UPTIGHT ABOUT HER RENTAL and instructs guests to wear booties when indoors. She has things like bath mats and an old faded rug covering the carpet, and strict instructions taped all over unit saying things like what lights to keep on and the cleaning you need to do. You can hear the owner walking heavily and vacuuming upstairs frequently. This is not a dog or child friendly place. Gilead made us keep our dog crated AT ALL TIMES (including when we were home) which we did out of respect for her place. We took great care of her rental, and for her to be so invasive and listen to our conversations inside the rental unit is unacceptable.

Response from Gilead:
Michael, I see that my suite did not meet your expectations. I will address each of the issues you had, but first I wanted to say I have been running this suite with Airbnb for 3 years. I am considered a Super host with a 4.9 rating out of 5. I take great pride in running my suite top notch. Therefore, my place is extremely clean so each guest will feel like it was never used before they came. I’m very considerate of my guest’s privacy. I try to get a chance to greet my guests, and chat with them if they so desire. It is very clear that you never read the description of my suite before booking. Just about all these misrepresentations you accuse me of would have been addressed in the description of the unit. You claim we “Shared Space”. The suite is in the lower portion of my home and it is locked off. We do not intermingle in the same space. The listing specifically states no children, but 1 or 2 adults with an infant is okay. No children because I have a free-standing gas burning fire place for the heating system, and I don’t want a child to burn themselves. The essential oil is mentioned in the listing and if people don’t want me to clean with it to let me know. There is a note on the top of the vanity that unscented products are inside the vanity. The living room is 22ft x11ft 6inches. The bedroom is 8ft 10inches x 10ft 6inches, and the bathroom 9ftx6ft. The leather couch is five years old, and it is not meant to be a sleeper. The rug Michael called “faded” I bought at World Market 3 months ago. The rug runners in the living room are not “bath mats”. If you look out the bathroom window, well maybe to you it is rubbish, but it’s my kayaks covered with tarps. The hot tub is not broken. I do not have it in service while my guests are staying here since it could be a liability. There is a 40-inch (across) glass patio table with 3 comfortable chairs with cushions on the deck. The stairway in my home goes down stairs and to the left is the garage and to the right is the locked off door to the suite. I use the stairs frequently since I have a freezer and pantry in the garage. I was getting something down stairs when I heard Michael’s wife scream to their child to pick the dog up, she’s peeing. At that I froze, should I ask them if I could clean up the mess or just wait until they leave later that day. The wall to wall carpet was installed in Nov. 2016, and it cost $3,000. So, I went around the house to their entrance and offered to clean up the mess. His wife said there was no mess and the puppy was running in and out of the unit. In the listing, it says no puppies. Seeing that they brought a puppy I mentioned to Michael that I would like him to keep the puppy in the crate whenever she was in the house since puppies can’t hold it. He said he would, but he didn’t. I have a large container to fill the Keurig coffee maker with water. The container will not fit into the sink in the bathroom so I suggest putting the water in it from the shower. I have had guests who also are hosts for Airbnb and they request their guests not use shoes in the house. I went a step further and supply booties and slippers in various sizes that are washed after each use. Per the notes around the suite, I put each one there because it was brought to my attention by the guests over the past 3 years to make it easier for the next guests. I’ve had many compliments about the notes. In the listing, I mention that from time to time you will hear my footsteps. I have area rugs in my home and then had thick jute carpets to cover the area rugs and runners. The noise Michael was hearing was my blender. I make a smoothie daily, around 10:00 am so as to not disturb my guests. I could go on and on. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with guests.

We were coming to check out Bend for a few days and wanted a place that was close enough to downtown so we would not have to drive. We were close enough to downtown to walk easily yet far enough away for it to be quiet. Since we got in a little late and had a lot planned, we did not get to meet Gilead until we were leaving; but she gave us all of the info we needed and everything in the space was labeled so there were no questions or concerns. We forgot something in the room and she had no problem with us stopping back by after check out time to pick it up. I was surprised/impressed by the vast array of books on the shelf. Basically, it had everything we were looking for. Thanks Gilead

Hello. I moved here the summer of 1990. After being a Nutritionist in Washington D.C. I became a real estate broker in Bend. I then authored 2 books; "Bend Has It All" and "Inside Bend." This became my jump start in finding out what Bend had to offer. I quickly learned how wonderful the people in Bend were. Bend is a melting pot for people from all over this county and beyond. Therefore people reach out to others in making friends.

When we rise in the morning we look out the window to decide which activity we'll do. Often one could go from skiing in the morning to mountain biking in the afternoon.
