Above the Clouds Guest House is a large, fully furnished five-bedroom home 1.5 hours northwest of Quito in the heart of the Choco Andino Biosphere Reserve. The house sits at the end of a country road surrounded by a lush paradise. Enjoy sweeping views of the valley and mountains and observe the many varieties of birds including Toucans and the Cock of the Rock Lek next door. Soak up the tranquility yet still be close to Mindo and other attractions.

The space
Great place for families or small groups. This five-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom house has a full kitchen, dining room, living room, terrace, two porches, a third story loft and an outside BBQ area. The house is 2.5 miles from a small Ecuadorian community, just 30 minutes to Pacto and Mindo, 15-minutes to the Tulipe Museum, next door the Cock of the Rock Lek and 10 minutes to the neighbor's house where you can watch the production of panela. The property consists of 33 acres of pastures and lush subtropical vegetation with 180-degree views of valleys, rolling hills and snow-capped mountains in the distance. The house is at the end of the road so there is no through traffic.

Note: The Base price of $160 is for up to 4 people and then $40 per person per night with a max of 10 people.

The five bedrooms are as follows: The first floor has one Queen Suite with private bath, and one Queen Room and one double room share a bathroom. The second floor has two bedrooms with King beds which can be converted into two twin beds, and each has a private bath.

You will be 2.5 miles from town with restaurants and small stores. Public transportation is 2.5 miles away.

Although it does not occur often, there can be power outages and there is no generator on the premises.

You will be in one of the most biodiverse areas in the world. Part of that biodiversity consists of various types of insects which at times may find a way in the house.

Meals can be provided at an extra cost.

You will have the entire home to yourself. The owner has a separate house up the road.

Cock of the Rock: Just a 15-minute walk to my neighbor's house and you will be surrounded by the famous Andean Cock the Rock with up to 14 males dancing and prancing for the female.

Mindo is just 40 minutes away. Day trip for Chocolate tour, butterfly sanctuary's, ride a zip-line or cable car over the cloud forest.

Mashpi Day Tour: Full day tour this special area where you will first see farmers harvesting hearts of palm and carrying them back to the farm on horses with special saddles. Picnic next to a beautiful green river. Tour a cocoa farm and try their delicious chocolate bars. Pass through secluded areas that are way off the beaten path.

Tulipe Museum: Visit this pre-Incan sacred swimming pools site, just 15 minutes from the farm.

Pacto Waterfall: Visit this amazing waterfall a half-hour walk through the woods. If you dare to venture on, you can climb the waterfall and wade through the river to see the ancient petroglyphs carved into the river rocks. Did I mention you will be the only one there on a weekday?

The guest house sits on 24 acres of pasture and cloud forest. It is 2.5 miles from the small community of Santa Elena (10 minutes by car and 40 minutes walking) and 11 miles from Nanegalito where there are small grocery stores and restaurants.

Power outages are not common but may occur. The house does not have an emergency power plant.
