Stayed in Jacob's apartment in April 2014, perfect location. Great places to eat and shop which suit my preference. Good food, not too fancy. Communicating with Jacob was easy with a quick response time.
From Laura: Jacob's cozy little place in Nolita was brilliant! Comfortable, warm, very clean..I felt right at home as soon as I arrived. Some points:
Location: Amazing! I love this area of NYC. Boutique shops on every street, great little cafes and bars, easy access to the metro (1 minute walk) Allows you to be away from the madness of NYC, but still enjoy all of her greatest treats.
Jacob/Host: Absolute star. Extremely punctual, (stood in the cold and wet for about 20 minutes as he waited for us to arrive from the airport to let us in) Very responsive: Anytime I emailed Jacob he would reply within .5-1 hour max. Accommodating: He provided us his season tickets to the Brooklyn Nets (paid of course, but at his yearly rate) Jacob also allowed us to have a late checkout to accommodate our evening flight.
Apartment: Small, but welcome to NY! The space works really well, and Jacob has done a very good job in providing a comfortable homely place, with style.
Other comments: highly recommended
The apartment is (website hidden)'s in a fantastic spot. Jacob is very accommodating and helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Super fast, super clean, super nice! Jacob is a great host!
Jacob was really easy to deal with and very quick with replies to our queries. The apartment was in the perfect location. There are some really great restaurants on the same street and close by, everything you need is only a short walk and very close to a good subway stop. Wifi took a while to get working but once working was fine. There is a fair bit of noise from the street on weekends as you are only one level up, but it is New York so it wasn't too surprising.
I stayed at Jacob's place mid December. Check in was a breeze, and although my friend and I were over an hour late, Jacob was super nice and accomodating! His place is great - everything you need is right around the apartment. I truly felt we got an authentic Manhattan experience and would book this apartment again in a heart beat!
One thing not many reviewers mention is that there is litterally a grocery store across the street! Perfect for getting last minute provisions, things for breakfast, etc.
Overall I highly recommend this place.
This was my first experience with airbnb. I have to say I hit the jackpot. This place was exactly what I was looking for. Perfect spot to explore the city from and for a business traveler like myself a perfect spot in the city to work from. Close to the subway, great parking garage just on block north and east. Grocery store right across the street and great little place just two doors down if you need a quick bite. I will be staying here again.
Let me start with the positives: Communication with Jacob was really fluent and this gave me a lot of confidence, so I completed the arrangement. Location of the apartment is awesome... really in the hot spot of SoHo. Jacob was very puntcual on the meeting and kindly helped me bringing a heavy suitcase to the first floor. The apartment has a bed that might be too soft for many but I slept really well. Internet also worked flawlessly.
Then the not-so-goods: first thing that surprised me was in the morning when I noticed that except for the bedroom, the rest of the windows face a huge tall wall. More than facing it, it is "just there", a couple feet away. In effect there's no light coming from all the other windows to the point that if you close the bedroom door a bright day really becomes night. No big deal but wasn't expecting it as the photos appeared very bright. Moving to the living room, the nice looking leather sofa had become a not so good looking fouton with some whiteish stains. Didn't bother to use it. The bathroom was not appealing at all. Starting by the lid of the WC that you have to hold with your hand while urinating or it would fall. Then the space of it. The WC was in such a tight corner that me, being a quite tall guy had to literally spread open my legs when I wanted to sit. I would say there's about just two feed from the wc to the wall. Had to sit in cortorsion moves everytime, very unconfortable. The shower quicly becomes a tub as the water doesn't drain fluently; quite disgusting. Cleanliness was also lacking in the bathroom, specially in the corners of the floor. Finally , the bedroom has a problem of insulation in the windows. One of them (email hidden) while the other doesn't. I was advised by Jacob not to open the AC one, which was "kind of" sealed with transparent packing tape. Both windows leaked a great deal of cold air (remember, it was mid december), and it was very noticeable the cold stream of air flowing at night (cold nose tip). I even tryed to "insulate" one of the windows with a towel, but air leaks happened anyways. Sound insulation was really poor for the bedroom as well. Any conversation by the bystanders could be not only heard but understood. If there was a suitcase being pulled in the street, the noise was really bothersome. It is not NYC "city" noise as other reviewers mentioned: it is so much more serious.
All in all, I was very surprised that no one mentioned the bad points in the reviews. I don't know if this is because of fear to give bad reviews, but they are really noticeable, not a picky guy comment. If you want just a bed, beware of the cold and noise. If you expect more... consider other options.
Everything was excelent! Jacob met us right on time in the apt. He even helped us take our luggage up the 1flight up stairs. The kitchen is nice, the ink y downside was it has a kurig coffee maker for capsuled coffee (i like regular coffee). The space was perfect for my two 7 year old twins and Mom. It's great having a door to divide the bedroom frOm the Rest Of the apt (contrary Of a studio) The bdf subway is just 1 Block away. The supermarket is right in front Of the apartment, starbucks is just 2 blocks away, whole foods is just 2 blocks away. I love Nolita, It's a great neighborhood with trendy restaurants Of all sorts of budgets. It's just 2 blocks away from soho's main broadway shopping, but It's a quite neighborhood, (I like feeling like a local when we go to NY). Over all great Stay, great host.
Hyper bruyant.
