Take a few days to unplug and reconnect with nature with an off-the-grid camping experience.
Overlooking the beautiful Bras d'Or Lake our fully equipped trailer sits atop the hill in a secluded clearing. Bedding, towels, toiletries, BBQ & lawn chairs provided. You just need to bring your food and drinking/cooking water.
Centrally located, this is the perfect base camp for day tripping.

The space
Our rural, off the beaten path farm is a lovely 22 km drive up the Kempt Head Road. Sitting atop the hill in a secluded clearing at the edge of the woods you have a lovely view of the beautiful Bras d'Or Lake. Read book, walk the trail, go for a swim, nap, roast marshmallows, watch the sunset, stargaze. You could easily spend your entire vacation right here. But, who can resist the incredible beauty of Cape Breton. Daytrips are easy when this is your base camp. The neighbourhood is hopping on Sundays during July and August. With events at the Ross Ferry Marine Park and the Ross Ferry Farmgate Market there is always something to do.

WiFi is available down by the house and at the Ross Ferry Marine Park.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no electricity for devices such as cell phone chargers, tablets, hair dryers, electric razors, etc. (Don't let the wall plugs fool you!) The lights are run off of a battery powered by solar panels. Water is trucked up from the house and stored in barrels. Gray water (from dish washing, showers, etc.) is filtered into the ground. Black water (septic) is stored in a tank under the trailer. Please use the lights and water wisely.

Kempt Head, Nova Scotia, Canada

We are smack dab in the middle of spectacular no where! Baddeck and Sydney are about 45 minutes away. The Fortress of Louisbourg and the surrounding area makes for a lovely day trip. There are two restaurants close by, but who wants to eat at a restaurant when you can cook over the fire.

I am a farmer, tourist operator, volunteer, and amateur photographer. My partner and I moved here to Cape Breton in October 2009 and have never looked back. He works off-site while I manage the farm and the Bed and Breakfast. Cape Breton Island is a magical place filled with beauty and wonder and I am lucky to call this place home.
