A 2 acre property surrounded by trees offers a stay in a typical Guanacaste house that's also a restaurant. You will definitely stay at the best spot of Liberia, very close to the InterAmerican Rd; walking distance to the Bus Station and Food Market
You will stay in a private, spacious room with a private bathroom. Tall ceilings half wood half concrete and good illumination.
Access to WIFI and parking, also the option to eat at a great restaurant.
Interaction with Guests
This is a calm restaurant that opens at 3, closes at 10:30 p.m. The host Carlos will help you on basic information.
The neighborhood is a residential area and calm.
We are walking distance to the Bus Station and taxi lanes on Liberia town.
Other Things to Note
If you are passing through Liberia or visiting tourist attractions around Liberia stay with us for a comfortable rest!
Carlos greeted us as we entered the gate along with Raquel who spoke english. the room itself is spacious with a good library of books. It's proximity to the bus station, makes it a perfect location for early departure...which we did,as we left at 5am to catch the bus. It is attached to a restaurant, so its convenient for meals. We were there during the rodeo festival so it was a bit loud...not sure if that is the norm.
Staying at this place has one big advantage: you are actually sleeping in a room in the MariaJuana restaurant, which is a really nice restaurant. The food is great, also for vegetarians!
The room itself is quite basic and good value for this price. Don't expect anything fancy, just a bed, a fan, and a bathroom. The shower is cold water only, but it's always so hot in Guanacaste that you won't mind.
We really did miss a small fridge, a coffeemaker and/or the option to make tea. It was quite clear that this wasn't available, but a small water cooker would have been nice. If you are the type to go out for breakfast this is no problem of course.
Carlos is a nice guy, really helpful. We also loved their pets; two dogs and 2 cats, who are on the background and just chill on their large property.
A no-nonsense accomodation.
The room is one of 3 rooms that are actually in the back of the restaurant. I was greeted by Carlos, who is the restaurant manager and I believe lives there as well. As it turns out, I anytime someone stays in the room I was in, Carlos camps out in a tent in the restaurant. While I appreciated the security and warm gesture, I felt horrible the morning after when I found this out. Carlos is so good-natured that it didn't seem to phase him one bit.
However, there were definitely some challenges with this stay. I had to message the Host twice before getting an initial response. In that second message I asked whether the host received my first message and her entire reply was "no!" It would have been great had she acknowledged my questions around check-in/out and transportation. The host mentioned she would email me a map, which she never actually sent. In addition, there was no warm water in the bathroom, unless you have to wait more than 10 minutes for it. I simply did not have that kind of time in the morning as I had to leave for my flight out. Overall, I really liked Carlos and the restaurant, but I think there are so many other options to choose from in the same price range that will be more reliable.
Sorry to hear about this Joshua :(
We still think MariaJuana is the best thing in town! ;)
Carlos is the owner of MariaJuana (we are helping with the booking). He loves to do camping all around Costa Rica and actually we are thinking to offer camping site in MariaJuana since it has a lot of property space, a fire pit and is excellent for bird watching and star gazing!
Thanks for the other suggestions...we are working on being better! thanks
A great spot to stay in Liberia. Carlos is very kind and helpful, he is able to translate from Spanish to English though his computer and will give you any advice you need.
The food is fantastic and the drinks are even better. Try the Mojito (probably the best I've ever had).
The room we had the first night was very basic, the fan was a little loud, but we never had a problem sleeping. The temperature cools off at night, so the sleep is comfortable. Carlos then upgraded us to the other room the next night, which was a lot better. We had our own bathroom, tv, and a much bigger bed.
Everything is fairly close to this b&b (bus, liquor store etc.), so it's very convenient... if you wish to catch a cab to a different restaurant or bar, it's only a 2$ (website hidden). Besides MariaJuana.. One of the places I recommend eating at is Pizza Pronto (delicious). I also recommend having a drink at Las Cuevas (the servers are very friendly, and are more than willing to teach you Spanish).
Our stay here at Nadya's was short but sweet. Although we never met Nadya, her helper Carlos was great. He doesn't speak much English but he tried his best to communicate with us.
-room was large and clean along with the bathroom.
-restaurant was great! Good food.
The room is connected with the restaurant so for the earlybirds, bring ear plugs because the music travels into the room pretty easily until 10:30pm. Didn't bother us too much.
Overall great stay!!
Nadya is not living there, but Carlos and his girlfriend (restaurant owners) are really really sweet, helpful and nice. They even prepared us sandwiches for our hiking! The room is clean and quiet, The food from the restaurant is really good and not expensive. A very Nice place to stay!
Thanks again Carlos!
Room was a good size and clean but attached restaurant/bar music was to loud. Good if you want a party atmosphere but not if you want to go to bed early. Music ended around 10:30.
