Tyson's Corners Retreat Cottage is tucked away in the Texas Hill Country, a perfect place for rest and relaxation...surrounded by Live Oak trees, wildflowers, wildlife, and horses of course, it is so secluded one would never know civilization is near, yet only a few minutes away from downtown Lampasas.

The space
Whether you are escaping from the city for some small town R & R, or want the peace of the quiet country side, we have it all. Our retreat center sits back from the main road just on the Lampasas city line. It is quiet and serene, and can lend itself to finding that slow-down button we all need among the fast paced lifestyles we lead. Come rest in a rocking chair on the front porch while watching the horses and deer graze, or catch a beautiful sunset over a coastal hay field on the back porch. Need some quiet time at the end of a fishing pole? Bring your lawn chair, a pole and your tackle box to fish our stocked pond of bass, catfish, and perch! (Catch & release only, please!)

Our property is also home to Rescue Rio, our equine rescue, as well as an equine assisted therapy program. We give sanctuary to 22 horses. Some of which are rescue horses that have retired here, are in our rehabilitation program or working in our therapy programs. You will see people coming in and out to care for the horses and attend therapy sessions, but all of that takes place down at the horse barn which is 240 yards (219 meters) away from the cottage.

We always welcome our guests to come on down and get to know us, our horses and learn about our programs! Our Airbnb guests’ reservations are a huge support to these programs and we love to share about the work we do to help out these beautiful horses in need! For more info on the rescue check out Rescue Rio on IG or FB!

Where you’ll be

Lampasas, Texas, United States

Lampasas is a unique small Texas town that grew up around the historical healing Hancock Springs. Known in the past as a resort town for these medicinal springs, it is a great place to come and relax. In the summer you can now enjoy the healing properties of the springs at the free-flowing spring fed pool at Hancock Springs park. And not too far down the road in San Saba is yet another spring-fed pool at Mill Pond Park. Both great family friendly places to cool off in the hot Texas summers, while soaking up the healing minerals as well!
Inks Lake State Park, just 37 miles down the road, is another fantastic summer place for the family. You can rent kayaks, canoes, or paddle boats for a fun day on the lake. We highly recommend a drive there in the spring when the wildflowers are in full bloom, it always is a reminder to us why we are so happy to call the beauty of the Texas Hill Country our home!

During your stay

We, Chris and Joanna, live on the property and always welcome visits with our guests. You’re welcome to text or call us with questions or concerns. We always leave a phone number for you when you arrive. Your comfort is a priority to us as well as your privacy. We won’t come knocking on your door unless you let us know you would like to meet us. Everyone is different about their retreat and rest time and we are aware of that. You are welcome to wander the property, we just ask that you respect the privacy of our own home up the hill. If you see us heading over to feed the horses you are more than welcome to join us! That’s always a great way to meet the herd and get to know us.
