The Above the Fray Guesthouse is a private, relaxing, two-bedroom guest suite with a separate entrance. Comfortable queen beds, a small kitchen with living and dining areas, private pastoral views, and a 3-acre mini-farm await those visiting the Eugene-area. It looks, smells, and feels like country - and we are a quiet farm-house escape from the hubbub - but we are just 10 minutes from downtown Eugene and the U. of Oregon.

We closed 3/2020 due to Covid, and are reopening 7/2022.

The space
The suite comprises half of the first floor of our 1940s farm-house home with two locked doors and a common wall in between your suite and our living area. The suite has a private entrance and maintains privacy and quiet from our half. The suite's kitchen, living, and dining area is comfortable and has an expansive view of our large yard and gardens. You are welcome to stroll the grounds and relax in a lawn chair in the afternoon sun. Outside, you may be greeted by our chickens and ducks (and our happy-to-meet-you dog, Bikkie) who cruise the acreage during the day.

The small kitchen has a full refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, single-burner induction hot plate, electric fry-pan, toaster, coffee machine/grinder and french press, and pots and pans. Breakfast items offered include our own free-range chicken eggs (you'll meet the girls in the yard), quality whole-bean coffee, cocoa/tea, milk (1%) and half-&-half, English muffins, butter, yoghurt, instant oatmeal, and more. In season, we offer our own garden's fruit, berries, greens - whatever is abundant! We also offer an array of spices, olive oil, vinegar, and other kitchen essentials. Our personal kitchen is close by if anything else is needed (Just ask!). An outdoor (briquet) bbq is available.

The 2 bedrooms each have a snuggly down comfortable, firm queen mattress, 100% cotton sheets, feather pillows, and room to store or hang your gear. The separate bathroom has a shower/tub and soft 100% cotton towels.

The guesthouse suite is adjacent to both our home and our two home businesses, Lane Tutoring Service and Above the Fray: Traditional Hill Tribe Art. The second business imports handwoven silk and other traditional textiles and tribal art from hill tribe Laos and Vietnam. In fact, two traditional looms (for Lao silk and H'mong hemp) are set up in the guest area. [Contact us and let us know if you are interested in traditional hill tribe weaving and textiles.]

Where you’ll be

Eugene, Oregon, United States

We are located just outside the city of Eugene in the beautiful "southwest hills." The vibe and neighborhood is rural and quiet, but we are conveniently close to town (about 10 minutes to downtown and Univ. of Oregon).

My wife, Maren Beck, and I own and operate Above the Fray: Traditional Hill Tribe Art, and we visit and import silks and other textiles from Laos and Vietnam. I also own and operate a tutoring service in Eugene OR. We are a quiet mid-50'ish couple with two sons who no longer live at home. We love fresh simple foods, relaxing in the summer evening sun (or in front of winter's wood stove), and plotting our next travel adventure. Our mini-farm of chickens, ducks, vegetables and fruits always keeps our chore list full.
