You will have independent access to your own little studio room in a quirky little back yard with a cheerfully decorated gazebo for shade when you are not frequenting the many cafes, restaurants and alternative boutiques of King Street minutes away.
The studio is set apart from the main cottage in the back garden of a federation style home. You have tea making and basic breakfast supplies to commence your stay in your room with a fridge (and microwave on request). All linen provided and a cosy day bed awaits you that can convert from a single to a double bed as required. Please note that when the bed is extended to a double it uses up much of the free space in the room. The dimensions of the room are 4.6 m long by 2.5m wide.
Outside the studio you will have access to a gazebo sitting/ dining area and a gas barbecue. The bathroom, laundry, kitchen and toilet facilities are shared with us in the main cottage.
Interaction with Guests
We are both busy professionals and I run a business in Queensland but we are both well traveled and will enjoy sharing our local knowledge with you.
Newtown is a very lively and diverse suburb, so close to the city/ harbour and walking distance to both Sydney University and UTS. It is ever changing. It's roots are working class but due to the value of inner city real estate it has become very sought after and has become gentrified - the 'rough' coexists quite comfortably with the 'smooth'.
Newtown is well served by public transport - the train station is a few minutes walk away and buses to a variety of destinations are constantly traversing the main hub of Newtown on King Street.
Other Things to Note
The study can be easily adapted to accommodate one or two people. While the streets are busy with cars the parking on the street does not require payment (as yet!). We are very close to the airport and planes do fly overhead from time to time. Additionally we are still problem solving regarding wifi access in the studio - it is unreliable - works perfectly just outside the room, in the garden and in the house - a bit of a mystery!
This is a non-smoking house. We would expect you to respect the privacy and comfort of others. Smoking may be allowed in the garden if the appropriate ashtrays are used and cleared up by guests please.
After an initial hitch re being given wrong number of street, I was made to feel welcome.
I stayed with Debra and Eric for the last two month and I loved it! Their place in Newtown is situated in a very hip area with nice pubs, Café's and shops. It's just a few minutes to the train station. My room was tidy and I love Debras Hippi-style of decoration :) She had fresh flowers in the kittchen every week! But now the most important facts which made me feel so comfortable: Debra and Eric are just wonderful hosts! They were always very kind, I had good conversations with them and they gave me great advise where to go to explore the city! They became family to me and it was really hard to say goodbye! I miss them as well as their lovely daughter! Thank you very much! Big hugs to the three of you! Luisa
We had a really nice stay in the cute cottage. Debra and Eric were awesome hosts and we were able to book the room way in advance for new years in Sydney. Thank you so much for that. We'd love to come back!
We really appreciated Debra and Eric's hospitality. Was an easy, hassle free and convenient stay in a small space full of character and mod cons. The privacy and independence of a seperate entry was something we really appreciated. Would definitely stay again.
The house is near the train station, which I found its so convenient to travel around. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes, some of them are really good! I got everything that I needed during the time I stayed that Debra's place, surely its not 5-stars hotel room but hey for this price I didn't expecting anything more :D thank you for being good hosts, Debra & Eric!
Debra and Eric were both very friendly hosts and were happy to impart some local knowledge to a first-time visitor to Australia. The studio description was very accurate and everything was clean and cozy with everything you could need. Newtown is a very cool, trippy area of Sydney worth exploring and is conveniently located. Would absolutely recommend to others!
