Description

The Space

This farm stay property, "Finca El Porton Verde," is a unique small hotel offering in Nicaragua's capital city of Managua. My Nicaraguan family and I work and live on a small (eight acre) organic permaculture farm located in the breezy hills south of Managua—overlooking Ticuantepe and Masaya, Nicaragua.

This listing is for one bedroom furnished apartment complete with kitchen, living/dining area and private bathroom. This apartment is best for two guests, but if a group of four wants to stay together we can put a queen-sized inflatable bed in the living area for an additional charge of $13 per person. This apartment is on the lower floor of the house on the pool deck level. The entire property is handicap accessible. See our other listings for a one bedroom en-suite room. If you are looking for something more affordable, check out our two bunk bed rooms.

Why stay with us?
If you do not want to stay in a hotel in hot and dirty Managua, but need to be near there (for example, if you are flying in or out of the country, or doing business or missionary work) we are a great option for you.

Why should I not stay at the Farmstay?
If you need to be right on a major highway, within walking distance of bars and nightclubs, or have an extreme aversion to dirt roads, you might want to not stay here at the Farmstay. You might be better off at a downtown- or airport-area hotel.

You are on a farm, how far away are you from town?
Our B&B is located on a dirt road that is sometimes not that easy to maneuver, just six minutes from the major highway going south called Carretera a Masaya, eight minutes from the modern Hospital Metropolitano Vivian Pellas, 10 minutes from the finest restaurants, shopping and entertainment of Managua, 25 minutes from the airport, 15 minutes to Masaya Volcano, 20 minutes to the artisan market of Masaya, 45 minutes to Granada, and 45 minutes to the nearest beaches.

How do I get to any of those places if I don't have my own car?
Mototaxi, which is like a tuk-tuk in Asia. Also, I go into town nearly every day and can give you a ride for free to the highway where you can catch a bus or a taxi.

Will you give us a tour of the farm?
Absolutely! Farmstay El Porton Verde has fantastic jungle and volcano views, but just in front of the house and swimming pool begins a nearly eight acre area that hosts fruit orchards, plantains, papayas, bananas, etc. We also plant and harvest all of our own corn and red beans that are used throughout the year.. El Porton Verde is a working farm; if you stay with us during the right time of year, we can guarantee you all the mangoes that you can eat!

Do you do pickups and dropoffs at the airports and bus stations?
Yes, we recommend having us come to pick you up. We charge $20 for airport pickup. Ask us about our deals that include free pick up. We can also arrange for airport drop off and local tours.

What other services do you provide?
Tours, medical/dental, spa, and relocation services are provided.

Tours: We offer local tours to nearby attractions such as Masaya Volcano, Masaya Artisan's Market, San Juan de Oriente ceramics studio, El Mirador de Caterina, Laguna de Apoyo, Granada, and Managua.

Medical/Dental: Ask us about how we can help you to setup medical and/or dental work/checkups.

Getting these things done at a first class clinic or hospital in Nicaragua can easily pay for the cost of your ticket!

Serenity Spa: We also have a local spa that can come to the farm with their massage table, or you can go there for a range of spa services.

Relocation: We can provide a custom tour and fact-finding mission based on your specific situation and questions. We have helped new expats with everything from medical exams, gaining residency, and buying and selling of properties and businesses.

If you have any questions, please ask away here on the airbnb.com website. Thank you!

-Cheers
Mike Quinn

Guest Access

8 acres of tropical fruit tree farmland, swimming pool, kitchen access (ask for details), upstairs/downstairs common areas with volcano and forest views.

Interaction with Guests

I live on-site in a nearby separate building from the main house. I'm around mostly in the mornings during breakfast and can help you plan your daily activities (local tours (both self-guided and guided), relaxing on the farm, volunteering at a local orphanage for handicapped children, etc. I'm also on-site in the evenings except when I go to the airport to pick up other guests.

The Neighborhood

The neighborhood is made up of family-owned farms, yet is ten minutes from the best shopping, dining, and entertainment areas of the capital city of Managua. You will experience a quiet and tranquil environment which is a bit cooler then the surrounding towns and cities which are at a lower elevation.

Getting Around

We are located approximately 3 kilometers from the major highway (Carretera a Masaya) leaving Managua heading south towards the frequently visited locations of Masaya, Granada, the Pueblos Blancos, Ometepe, Rivas, Tola, and San Juan del Sur. Local transport is via mototaxis (tuk-tuks) to the highway, local restaurants, or the upscale shopping mall called Galerias Santo Domingo.
Buses to all points south pass by on the highway. Going to Managua is equally simple and quick on local microbuses or regular buses. Taxis are available as well.
If you choose to rent a car, we have secure on-site parking and it is not too difficult to drive around Nicaragua to see all the sites.

Other Things to Note
