About this listing
This 1890's "pole house" sits on a lovely Florida lake surrounded by 2 acres. It is private, quiet and is equipped with everything that you would need to feel at home. The property is entirely smoke-free. There is a quiet dock for fishing or sunsets
This is the Master Bedroom with King Bed, Scottish Armoire and new Flat Screen TV w cable. The Central AC/Heat thermostat is on the wall in this room
This Cabin is a pole house that was built in the late 1890's. It has a large bedroom with a King Bed and triple dresser with Scottish Armoire, lots of light and a window to the porch and lake. There is also a small washer/dryer. The small bedroom has a beautiful view of the lake and we call it the "Bird Room". It has a closet and two dressers with a door going out to the porch. The bed is turn of the century wood carved with a brand new IKEA full-size mattress. This bed would not be comfy for a very tall person as it has a footboard. The bath is full tub/shower with separate toilet area and fully stocked with towels. The large living room has great light, Cable TV, Flagstone fireplace, cathedral pole ceiling, Piano and staircase to the loft. Oh yes, there is a breathtaking view of the lake! This house is the original house on the lake- so it has the best view! There is a large screened porch across the lake side with another table for 5 so that you can enjoy your meals outside if you like! The living room couch pulls out to a queen sleeper-sofa. The loft is hot in the warm months but just right in the winter. It is carpeted and has a single futon-bed that is perfect for a teen, but not appropriate for a small child. The stairs are open and wood. The dining area is in the front of the house and table for 6 with pots, pans, dishes, condiments etc. The Fridge is brand new, and there are the usual things such as blender, toaster, coffee-maker and various kitchen utensils. This is a very unique and wonderful place to stay- annnn authentic part of Florida History! The cabin comfortably sleeps 4.
You can fish right off of the dock. There is canoeing, fishing, bike and hike trails nearby, Parks and Recreation galore, a huge flea market just a few miles down the road. There is a blueberry farm across the street (in season) and a working orange/tangerine/grapefruit grove nearby where you can get local honey and jelly and fresh squeezed juice. Great place to sit in the sunshine and read. There are many wonderful Golf Courses all around and I can provide a guide for those. The Beaches are only a half hour away. There are GREAT birding areas as well and I can point you to them. There is free WiFi on the property and Cable TV. Iron & Board, Piano, Musical events are abundant as I am a Folk Music DJ on Public Radio.
Interaction with Guests
I like to give my guests the privacy they want so that they can relax, read and just enjoy the nature and wildlife of the property, however I am right across the property, and when I am home I am usually up for an adventure- there is so much to do from beaches to hiking to house concerts- so you can never be bored- or you can just sit back, relax and do absolutely nothing in the sunshine!
This is an un-incorporated area and my property is at the end of a cul-de-sac so it is very quiet and private. There has never been a safety issue of any kind and there is plenty of parking. This is the kind of place we often don't lock our doors. It's about 10 min. to the bank or grocery store. There are several farmer's markets nearby.
Unfortunately, Florida is not known for its' public transit and you will need a car to get around. It's an easy drive from the airport- just about 15-20 min. north of the airport (unless you are travelling during the rush hours) The nearest transit stop is about 6 mi. away and it is not an easy/fast trip.
Other Things to Note
This is not like any other place that you will stay. It is an authentic part of Florida History with names carved in the sidewalk from the 30's. There is lots of folklore about the area. My guests are always completely "at home" and charmed with the house and area. There are lots of little day-trip destinations nearby to fill a stay. Many of our "snow birds" come back year after year and have become friends.
This is not a party/event location. There is not so much privacy that I would not notice if there was smoking or parties going on and neither would be tolerated. If you have read this far, then you know that quiet is part of the equation :) I am not talking about a weekend BBQ party- that's cool. But the house Is not suitable for more then 4-6 occupants. I am of an age where relaxing is considered a party!
This cute little kitchen with a lepruchan door has everything you need for cooking- all dishes, pots & pans, condiments, napkins and papertowels- even wine glasses provided! Cook Books of many cuisines are provided for you pleasure!
Jeannie was very welcoming she had snacks and drinks and lots of ideas of things to do. I was trying to relax after a stress filled year and it worked. The pictures are very representative of the little house. The weather didn't cooperate but still had a great time. Will come back.
Outstanding & lovely place. Perfect location. A very charming house right in front of the lake. We fell in love with it as soon as we arrived and felt very much at home immediately. The house was everything we were hoping for during our one-week stay in the Tampa Bay area. Quiet, comfortable, safe, cozy, with incredible lake views and a very friendly and generous host, Jeannie, who is a very interesting woman, friendly & pleasant to talk to, eager to please her hosts, always willing to help and also offer advice to those willing to explore the area.
It was the perfect vacation spot for our family and a place we would return to in a beat. Thank you for everything, Jeannie, once again!!
Thank you, Cornelia! Your kids are so adventurous and fun. There was more excitement than I am used to in terms of wildlife! That little green VW Bug was so cute! I hope that you enjoyed your visit with your kids in America and that they have a very safe trip across our country!

Thank you so much, Jenny. We were very sorry that you were not able to make the trip. I had an unscheduled surgery in December, so I was not able to get my review to Airbnb by their deadline. Wally left me a lovely letter, and I will write an excerpt here:
Wally writes: "Thanks for providing such a pleasant, quiet retreat for us for the Christmas season. We really enjoyed the cottage and the setting. It was lovely, and we had a good time exploring the area, seeing the Gulf Coast, visiting area parks, seeing some different wildlife. Thanks again, Wally."
They were a pleasure to have in our cabin, and we would love to welcome them back to enjoy the Sunshine State!
We love every minute at this place. You feel at home and on the best outdoor vacation at the lake. We always want to go again
Although we normally do not have so many people in this small, two bedroom cabin, Miguel's family was just wonderful! We loved them all, and know that they were so proud to watch Miguel receive his graduate degree from USF. We would love to have any of them back in the future. What a smart and interesting family! They were loads of fun! We hope to see them again sometime.

About the Host, Jeannie
I am a life-long resident of Tampa and a Public Radio DJ for 34 years. I love Folk Music and the peaceful living in this natural Florida environment, although I grew up in the city and also enjoy a nice restaurant and working out at the University!
