Relax with a fantastic mountain view and enjoy yourselves!
This two story house in Ahwatukee with million dollar views backing on to South Mountain Park is unlike most Phoenix homes which have neighbors on 3 sides; this house has only have 1 neighbor as the park trail access is on the other side and the only neighbors behind the house are the visiting quail, hummingbirds, roadrunners and rabbits.
There are 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom overlooks South Mountain Park and features a queen sized bed. The second bedroom features two twin beds and the third bedroom has a full size futon and desk. So the house will comfortably sleep 5, possibly 6 if two stay in the third bedroom. There is also a mattress available that I kept from a sleeper sofa which could be placed on the floor or the balcony for sleeping, making the house accomodate 6 or even 7. The ground level has a spacious living room, dining room (seats 6) and a beautiful kitchen that has a spectacular view of the mountains. The breakfast nook also has a mountain view. A selection of fine complimentary coffees and teas are provided so you can enjoy a leisurely morning beverage with a great view from the breakfast nook or the outdoor patio table! A half bath is also available on the ground floor. The house has garage parking and washer & dryer available. I Pod docking station with CD and AM/FM radio for your music pleasure. 46 inch flat screen cable TV with couch and overstuffed recliner you can easily fall asleep in (I know from experience).
Warning – this house could be detrimental to your fitness plan as you could spend quite a few hours and days on the deck or patio having drinks and food while enjoying the view. Alternatively, you could roll out of bed and head into South Mountain Park to enjoy/explore the 60 miles of hiking and biking trails. For you wildlife lovers, bird seed is provided for the dozens of gambels quail and other birds that frequent my yard. Also, hummingbirds and woodpeckers are common, along with the occasional roadrunner.
Choose from a library of over 100 books for your reading pleasure. If you don't finish the book before you leave please take it with you.
Sedona is an easy day trip, 2 hours away. Grand Canyon is 4 1/2 hours away, doable on a long day trip.
There is easy access to all sports venues and only 15 minutes from the Sky Harbor Airport, 15 minutes to Tempe and 20 - 25 minutes from Scottsdale.
Minimum stay is 3 nights.
IMPORTANT: I accept bookings up to a year in advance, however the Airbnb phone app limits this to 6 months, however bookings beyond 6 months can be made with a laptop.
How does pricing work? Here is an explanation as to why you may see varying prices.
SUMMER SPECIAL! Summer pricing starts at only $110 a night! I define summer as June 1 - Sept 30, 2015. Summer weekly pricing is $675 and $1900 for a month.
Outside of summer...here is a guide...
DAILY PRICING pricing typically starts at $129 a night, except for March, where it starts at $149
WEEKLY PRICING is typically $850 per week, with the exception of March and summer. March is $975 a week, summer is $649 a week.
MONTHLY PRICING is typically $2250 (Oct 1 - Feb 28 and April 1 - May 31), but varies the rest of the year according to season, as low as $1900 (summer June 1 - September 30) or $2800 on the high end for March. How do I define a month? Any consecutive string of up to 31 nights, not necessarily a calendar month. For example, Dec. 15 checkin - Jan 15 checkout would be one example of a month, as would July 1 - 31. If pricing comes back higher than the quotes above, I will adjust. pricing.
SUBLET PRICING is $1900 per month for any 2 or more consecutive months
Extra person charge of $10 per person per night after the 3rd person.
If there is anything I didn't cover, please ask me. Thank you for your interest.
#1 rule is to relax and have a great time at my place! Please enjoy the house, views and wildlife and respect the furnishings. No smoking and no pets please. Also, in an effort to keep the carpet clean, please remove shoes before going upstairs. Finally, there is birdseed in the blue tub in the back yard. If you throw a cup or 2 under the tree each day I would appreciate it....as would the birds!
This was our 7th year as snowbirds from Vancouver, BC and our 3rd year in a row at David’s house. We stay for a month and really love being able to walk straight out of the house and up the mountain for a choice of several trails from easy to strenuous – the tunnel at Hidden Valley is very impressive! Some of the peaks provide a panoramic view all the way from Sun Lakes to Mesa, Scottsdale, Sun City and beyond.
As for the house, it’s very roomy with a fully equipped kitchen, dining table that seats six, large sofa and recliner chair, comfortable queen bed in the master bedroom and twin beds in a second bedroom. Upstairs are two full bathrooms with a tub and shower and a half bathroom on the main floor. The kitchen is surrounded by windows allowing lots of light and a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. Handy to the kitchen and dining room is a large gas bbq, where you can enjoy gorgeous sunsets.
David is easy to reach and does a good job of looking after his house. Last year there was a set of new pots and the carpets had just been cleaned. This year there were three new toilets, new grout around the tub in the master bathroom and upgrades to the patio furniture. He also provides coffee, tea, condiments, paper towels, toilet paper and a spare tank of gas for the bbq.
Although the house is located at the foot of Phoenix South Mountain Park, it’s just a few minutes to Safeway, Costco, Walmart, several shopping centers, great golf courses and the airport. He generously provides a huge tub of bird food for the voracious quail and various birds, as well as a large container of syrup for the humming birds – very entertaining! Hearing the coyotes howl in unison was a bonus.
I stayed with my wife and two sons (24 and 21) in the house for 10 days over Christmas and New Year. We all liked the house which is roomy and nicely designed and particularly its location which is in a quiet neighbourhood just beside South Mountain Park. We really loved being able to walk straight out the house up the mountain, to watch and hear the wildlife from our windows, including coyote and javelina, and to feed the voracious birds with the birdseed David leaves. A couple of times we also had a really nice fire in the garden in the evenings with the firewood which was also there. David was very welcoming and quickly replied to any queries. All in all it was a great stay and we would definitely want to come back again.
What a lovely setting. You walk out the front door and onto the trail a few feet from the house. South Mountain Park is a giant mountain preserve but it has easy trails as well, and plenty of them. David had already filled us in on the birds and we enjoyed every one of them, as well as the other park critters that are very entertaining. The desert is quite beautiful in December; very green and there was actually a blue grass covering the sand near the trails.
We stayed for 3 days but easily could have stayed much longer. Very nice and safe neighborhood of red tile roofed houses. And very quiet. Beds are comfortable, and 3 bathrooms! Deluxe.
David made suggestions for restaurants and we found a great one on our own, the Hillside Spot, don't miss it. We had planned some outings but ended up staying near the house and hiking most of the time except for some Christmas shopping. We found everything we needed within a few miles of the house except Whole Foods market was maybe a bit further.
Overall, we were very satisfied and everything exceeded our expectations (house, location, hiking, owner).
David is a great communicator! Goes out of his way to make sure you have everything you need including firewood for the backyard fire pit. Thanks so much David!
Everything was great and just as advertised. Clean and comfortable. The access to South Mountain was fun, and the view was great from the top of the rocks.
David was a great host, all perfectly organized. The location is what makes this place so great - right on the south mountain trail head.
David, thanks ,your place was perfect! We really loved feeding the birds, hearing the coyotes at night, and taking advantage of the hiking trails. The master bedroom has a lovely balcony with view of the desert, and the bed was quite comfortable. The place was very clean and uncluttered, and David was extremely accommodating and easy to get in touch with (not that we had any problems.) For our next trip to this area we would definitely look to David's place again.
Fabulous first AirBNB experience! Three of us spent three nights at David's place, and we loved both the house and location. I went hiking on South Mountain, right out the door, every morning. The neighborhood is wonderfully quiet, the house is spacious and had everything we could need, and David was a thoughtful host who immediately took care of the one need we had.
I'm easy going, adventurous and like the outdoors...hiking, biking and travel appeal to me. I am both an Airbnb host and guest, having a place for rent in Phoenix, Arizona and having used Airbnb as well as a guest for my own travels. I enjoy the many people I am meeting through the Airbnb network.
