This family run guesthouse, located 600 meters above sea level is the prefect place for the trekkings in the Paul Valley.

The space

The guesthouse is located in the heart of Paul Valley. Not only it is a great base for trekking in the surrounding mountains (Pico da Cruz, Pico d'Antonia, Cova Crater), but also a perfect place to spend the time in the middle of the nature and taste the local dishes.

Guest access

The guests are provided with breakfast. There is warm water. Some of the rooms have en suite bathroom.

Interaction with guests

Me and my family are always available to provide the guests with the information about Cape Verde, Santo Antao and Paul Valley most of all. We can also as well arrange a local guide for trekking, if necessary.

Great location with an amazing view of the valley. The food was great and the staff very kind and helpful. The place has a nice gift shop where you can buy souvenirs. Sandro can put you in touch with a local guide who can take you on hikes through the valley and mountains. Alugers or drivers stop by the place all the time and they can take you to different points on the island. I had a great time there!

We're not hikers and we stayed at Sandro's place. Despite this, we loved it! The trip to the residence was scenic and adventurous. Arriving at the hotel we had to wait a bit in the building lot until our room was ready. We were early and we didn't mind looking at the pet turtles for a bit. The room was small but cosy. The view was stunning. At night the room was cold but the extra blankets from the cabinet helped. Hiking from the nearby crater was amazing and riding the local vans down to the valley was easy enough to explore the island. The best things about this stay were the amazing, honest foods and the helpful and friendly people. Sandro and his staff helped us out every time we needed it. The only downside of the stay were early morning construction works. The hotel is expanding, and hopefully it will keep its current friendly and relaxing vibe. We recommend staying here to experience the real Cape Verde life.

Sandro and Aracy were amazing hosts, as all the staff, always available and giving us lots of useful tips. The rooms are great with amazing views, very clean and spacious, and well decorated. The breakfasts and meals were also delicious. The space is very well located if you wish to take the several suggested hikes, which are unique experiences. At night, the space was very lively with locals sharing with us interesting stories, in a fun environment, while having a great Grogue/ Pontche. Will definitely miss the days spent there!

There is no stress in Sandro's unique place as in Cape Verde. You would forget all your problems while you are eating great fodd and drinking your Fogo wine and waking up to a wonderful scenery. All in all, it will be an amazing experience that you will never forget.

There are two great reasons to stay here - Sandro/his team and the location. Sandro is very friendly, helpful and has a great sense of humour. His team were all also very friendly and smiley. They were flexible about our dietary requirements and provided some delicious, hearty suppers, using really fresh vegetables, which we loved. The Pension is halfway up the Paul Valley and therefore in a fantastic location for walking - either up to the Cova de Paul or down to Vila das Pombas. There are at least 3 days' walking to be had from the doorstep. Not only is the valley stunning and dramatic, it's also full of life - walking past people's farms and small holdings is fascinating. It helps to think of Chez Sandro as more of a hostel than a guest house as the decor and lighting is quite basic and masculine. We shared a bathroom with the room next door and even though there's a high partition wall you can hear everything that goes on! And if they turned on the bathroom light in the night it woke us up. You may have to wait for hot water sometimes, but we never waited more than 20 minutes, which was fine. That said, I think this is all reflected in the reasonable price. And our room was cleaned with fresh sheets and towels daily. I don't think it's listed on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) Maps yet but if you look for the football pitch at Cabo de Paul, it's almost next door.
