Stunning, hand crafted yurt made on property. This secluded, colorful gem is like no other experience. Tucked away in the foothills of the Catskills, our organic farm has miles of hiking trails and mountain bike paths to explore! We also have many friendly ducks, goats, peacocks, chickens, donkeys, a horse and the friendliest dog in the world that guests can interact with.

The space
The yurt is a traditional temporary dwelling used by the nomadic indigenous people of Mongolia. This yurt was built during a class at Yestermorrow design and build school in northern Vermont that Joan participated in. We bought the finished product after the class concluded. This design was modified for modern living. The traditional smoke hole is now a plastic dome. The shell is made of waterproof vinyl rather then felted wool soaked in milk or fat. There is also a layer of insulation which keeps the temps more stable inside.
The bathroom faculty is now a porta potty located just passed the camp wood rack as you enter the forest. Continue on the road you entered on but stay to the left of the yurt sign. It is across from campsite #1. Unfortunately we had to close down our lovely outhouse, due to health Dept requirements.

Very remote feel! Hundreds of acres at the end of a dead end road. Located only 15 miles from Albany, city life and great restaurants are only a short drive. The Catskill mountains and Thatcher stare park are also close by.

I am a aspiring homesteader and organic farmer with seventeen years of experience in the landscaping, arboriculture and plant fields. I earned a Bachelor of Technology in Plant Science from SUNY Cobleskill. Originally a native of the Finger lakes area, I moved to the Capital region seven years ago. My partnership in Magic Forest Farm begin in January of 2015. As a avid backpacker and outdoor enthusiast, I am passionate about getting people outside, reconnecting them with nature and their food. I am currently focusing my efforts on agritourism, selling the farm experience.

During your stay

I am a homesteader and rarely leave the seclusion of my farm. I will be happy to answer any question. Please don't contact me after 8pm unless there is a emergency, or problem with the accommodations. We also host volunteers from around the world, who are also glad to help and share their stories. We let guests enjoy their privacy, only interacting if guest wishes so.
