This was our first experience with airbnb and we were impressed both with the service and our host and his flat. From the moment we requested the flat, Olivier was both gracious and incredibly responsive, usually replying to our emails within the hour (if not in just a few minutes). The flat is comfortable, cozy and totally updated, although the building itself is a little rough around the edges and you do have to negotiate two floors of narrow, winding stairs to get there (not a big deal to us). Our family of four felt right at home (the beds, even the pullout sofa in the living room, are in very good shape). Olivier even cleared space for us to hang and store our clothes. He left complete instructions for the wi-fi and combination washer-dryer (be warned: it works, but it takes a while - a long while). Construction was going on in a building across the way, but it's nearly complete and didn't bother us at all (at least my wife and I in the back room). Finally, we couldn't have asked for a better location. The flat is not in a tourist area, so you really get a sense of neighborhood, and this one is packed with restaurants, pubs and a Tesco just around the corner. On the other hand, it's very near a lot of London tourist areas, including the West End/Leicester Square, Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, all within walking distance (if you like to walk). If not, the Goodge Station on the Northern Line is the closest Tube station, about a five-minute walk, and that will take you just about anywhere. A Starbucks is right next to the entrance (though there are other coffee shops in the immediate area, if Starbucks is not your preference). The British Museum is about a 10-minute walk. As I said, we really enjoyed the flat and atmosphere of the neighborhood (especially on Thursday and Friday nights when the pubs were packed). This certainly beat staying in a hotel and I wouldn't hesitate to seek out this flat on a return visit to London.
