Built in 1919, Rosslyn is one of Nairobi's oldest and most special surviving homes. Set in 2 acres of private gardens we are close to UN, Village Market and Westlands. We have 2 singles, 1 double & 1 bathroom with separate listings on airbnb

Rosslyn is one of the oldest character homes in Nairobi and it has been our family home for more than 50 years.

We offer bed and breakfast in a small but cosy single bedroom, 'Amanda's Room', in our historic home.

Across the pretty courtyard with water feature is shared bathroom (only if we have other guests or family) with original claw foot bath and hand held shower and toilet and basin.

Full English breakfast is a house specialty, fresh fruit, tea or freshly brewed fine Kenya coffee, cooked breakfast with our own free range eggs, toast, marmalades, muesli/oats/porridge are all available. If you have any dietary requirements please let us know at time of booking.

Rosslyn was used as the home and garden of 'The Constant Gardener' 2005 drama thriller film starring Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz who won an Oscar for her role.

You have access to and use of the living areas of the house, sitting room, dining room, front or side verandahs, kitchen, courtyard, bathroom, secure parking and 2 acres of English style garden with expansive lawns.

You can chose your level of interaction; keep your privacy or join whoever of the family are in our home at the time.

Sonia, my mother, lives at Rosslyn and is a great hostess and I spend about half the year here.

Thigiri, or New Muthaiga, was until the 1970s a large coffee estate when it was sold for residential 1 acre plots. Our home, Rosslyn, preceeding the development, was built by Andy Anderson, a hunter, in 1919.

Rosslyn is a 5 minute drive to the Village Market, 7 minutes to the United Nations offices at Gigiri (more at peak times), 10 minutes to Westlands, 20 minutes to downtown Nairobi, 45 minutes to JKIA International Airport and Wilson Airport. These last 3 times increase at peak traffic times.

If you need a taxi we can arrange one for you at reasonable rates.

We are close to the beautiful Karura Forest which offers hundreds of hectares of safe walking, running, biking. Small antelope and monkeys can be seen.

You can walk to Village Market (25 minutes), matatus (local public transport vans) are ubiquitous, or have your own vehicle or taxi (can be recommended).

Bruce and family are the soul of hospitality. They live a life less ordinary on the side of a gorgeous Nairobi hill. Its a few minutes to the UN, few minutes into the city. Simply perfect! Andrew

Second time around still feels like home away from home. Comfortable home surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens makes you forget you're in the middle of a huge city. Bernard spoils you with a lovely breakfast on the veranda, and Sonia, Amanda, and Elizabeth are wonderful hosts. I'll keep visiting as long as they'll have me.

Excellent old colonial house. Gardens are delightful. Be prepared to share washroom facilities.

This is truly a gem in Nairobi! Beautiful house with a warm, welcoming feel to it. The bedrooms are simple, but there are big verandas overlooking the garden and a living room to spend time in reading books - which the house is full of, so don't worry if you forgot something to read. It is perfect for relaxation. I hope I can return next time I'm in Nairobi.

Wonderful and beautiful house. Sonia has amazing stories and Charles makes great breakfast. The location is near the forest which is large and quiet. It's also near a small supermarket that has most stuff. It's not the easiest to find, so highly recommended you request the hosts to organise a taxi driver they know.

This was my second stay at the house and I will be coming back. The house is comfortable and quiet, with a lot of character and history. Sonia and her family are very supportive and I very much enjoyed chatting with all of them. Breakfast on the veranda is very good and a great start into the day. This is one my all-time favourites on AirBnb!
