Abbeywood House provides comfort and atmosphere at the right price. 5 mins walk to town centre. Off street parking. Landscaped grounds . Choice of Double/Twin/Triple or Four bed rooms all with views over Croagh Patrick. (URL HIDDEN)

The space

Abbeywood was originally an old monastery and retains many of the original features such as stained glass windows and parquet floors throughout. Although only 5 mins walk to the town centre it is set back off the road in its own private grounds with plenty of off street parking. South westerly facing it is in an ideal location to relax outside with a glass of wine and watch the sunset over Croagh Patrick (cannot guarantee the weather however!). All our rooms have views over Croagh Patrick, we can offer a Double, Twin, Triple or Four bed room. Bed linen and towels are supplied and although not en-suite, all rooms have their own wash hand basin. Families are very welcome, the outside areas being particularly popular with lawns, swingball, boules, etc

Guest access

There is free Wifi throughout the building. A sitting room with books/board games/guitars is available for guests to relax in. A light continental breakfast with freshly brewed coffee will also be available here each morning. All guests are welcome to make use of the sitting room and gardens within the designated hours.

Interaction with guests

I'd be delighted to give guests the low down on the area and direct them towards places of interest, local events, best pubs etc for their tastes. We have a very informal atmosphere here and make every effort to ensure our guests enjoy their stay.

This is a great place to stay in Westport! Susan was a great host, She was easy to reach out to prior to our arrival and provided us with numerous recommendations for places to go and things to do in and around Westport. The hostel is beautiful, with the original stained glass windows still intact. The room was extremely convenient for the four of us. There was plenty of room for all of us as well as all of our luggage in the room. It was nice having a sink in the room so that we could use that quickly, but the communal bathroom was never crowded. I highly recommend that anyone visiting Westport stay at Susan's.

Wonderful place to stay with great access to Westport and all that it offers. Susan and her family are wonderful hosts and helped us arrange bike hires (even though we arrived late in the day). Clean facilities that are easy to navigate to and from. Worth the visit if you're considering a trip to Ireland!

Susan was an excellent host! She kindly greeted us as soon as we arrived and made sure we knew our way around Westport. She recommended some great restaurants and pubs. We were very comfortable at Abbeywood and Susan was flexible with us having an extra person last minute. Also, her breakfast was delicious!

This was a really lovely house and room was big clean and bright .. Comfy beds and great bathroom . Eilish was a great hostess really welcoming and helpful with local sightseeing hints . The breakfast was lovely too with plenty of choices . There was an electric kettle in the room and coffee & tea if you wanted it . Even thought to provide a hair dryer .. Excellent !!

Response from Susan:
Thanks for the great review but I'm not sure it was for Abbeywood! We have tea and coffee making facilities for our guests downstairs in the guest sitting room however not in the bedrooms. We also have hair driers (and straighteners!) to lend but we don't leave them in the rooms..and I'm Susan not Eilis! ..either way thanks Barbara and the girls, hope you come again:)

Our group of four women stayed here and couldn't say enough kind things about this B&B. As other reviewers have said, the location is an easy walk from town center (5 min) but quiet at night (I wouldn't recommend this B&B for those looking for a place to party). Susan was incredibly helpful and all of her recommendations (food, sites) were spot on. The B&B is clean, with good showers and a great breakfast. Would stay here again and will recommend it to all my friends.

Thanks ladies for your review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. You're right in saying we're not looking for wild party animals as we have two young kids here now but we give out a code for the back door so people can come and go whenever they want and they are usually very respectful in keeping it down if they're arriving home at 4 in the morning. Westport is a great town to go out in!

Hi there,
my name is Susan, originally from Dublin, I lived away in America and Australia for a number of years and I've been living in Westport on the west coast of Ireland since 2002 and couldn't imagine a better place to live. Fantastic scenery, beautiful beaches, surfing, hill walking, cycling, great pubs and restaurants. If I was going to be picky I might request a few more sunny days but as a wise man once said.."There's no such thing as bad weather just the wrong clothes" .
I've always loved travelling and having travelled solo quite a bit, I can appreciate the importance of a warm welcome after a long journey or a helping hand when things don't quite pan out as you planned and you're in a strange country.
I used to close up for January and February every year and take off myself, preferably somewhere with sun..South America and Asia in particular. Staying in hostels and other types of budget accommodation while away was great for seeing things from a guests point of view and also picking up ideas and tips for my own place.
Now I live here with my husband Guillaume and our two kids Charlie (4) and Sam (3) so my travelling is temporarily on hold.
I've been running Abbeywood since 2002 and have had a wide variety of guests of all nationalitys and ages through the doors since then, the youngest was 6 weeks old and the oldest 85. People are generally happy as they're on holidays and that atmosphere extends to the town itself, there's a very relaxed unhurried air about the place. if you're providing accommodation I think the most important thing is to have an interest in people, a genuine desire that they enjoy their stay and also to be aware of when people want to be left in peace to do their own thing or if they want to chat. I wouldn't say I have a life motto as such but I have a postcard with a Mark Twain quote on it that has come with me wherever I've lived for the last twenty years
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Hope to see you here in Westport at some stage:)
