A charming and nice flat in a traditional house from 1702 in the charming village of Reckingen, Switzerland (kanton Wallis).
Reckingen lies in the heart of the Swiss Alps with cross country slopes next to the house, great ski resorts within short driving (or train-ride) distance. The area is wonderful for hiking, rafting, climbing and biking in spring, summer and fall.
The flat has two nice bedrooms, kitchen filled with all necessary equipment (including coffee machine) and a functional bathroom with shower. Baby-bed in one bedroom. There is also free internet access, television with satelite dish and parking possibilities in the front of the house.
The wonderful village has a small bakery, butcher and grocery store. Restaurants and bank services are near by. Hosts can be contacted in English, German, and of course Norwegian.
The train station is within 5 minutes walking distance from the flat, with good connection to many Swiss and European destinations.
Enjoy your holidays in the wonderful Swiss Alps.
No smoking in the flat.
Ein schönes Gommer-Haus im schönen Reckingen: Wir haben das Skifahren, Spazieren und Schlitteln bei viel Schnee und Sonnenschein genossen. Unkomplizierte Gastgeberin und Gastgeber.
We had a marvelous time and were very glad we stayed in Anna's flat in Reckingen. It's the first floor of an old traditional Swiss house. The plaque on the outside of the house and an inscription on the beam in the main room both date the house to 1702, and the house across the road is dated to 1617. The flat has been updated inside, of course, but retains some 18th century quirks such as low ceilings and doorways (pay attention if you are over 190cm) and squeaky old pine planks for the floor. The bathroom is spacious with nice shower. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped with lots of utensils and an electric stove + oven (with only a microwave missing to seem like home). The flat is ideal for a couple with one to three children, with parents' bed in the main sitting room and a children's bedroom with bunk bed.
It's in the center of the village, with views out various windows of the mountains, a covered bridge over the river, and old wood houses in the nearby lanes. Out the kitchen window one can watch Alpine choughs (black birds) hunting for bugs in the neighbors' exterior walls. The walk to the train station is about 400 meters. The village has lots of cross country ski trails and a groomed sledding hill in winter. The next town up the valley has a small beginners and toddlers downhill ski place, though they seem to speak German only.
If Anna and her family happen to be there, they are very friendly and nice also.
Overall Anna was very helpful and responsive when we communicated with her regarding our stay. The apartment is in a charming, traditional swiss building and the village is beautiful, well located and also very well appointed. We were quite pleased with our experience.
Wir hatten schöne 4 Tage im tief verschneiten Goms und fanden in der Unterkunft alles was es braucht. Sehr unkompliziert. Vielen Dank, Andreas Wyss
We have stayed twice now at Anna's place, once in summer and once in winter, and both have been fantastic. The small town is lovely and quiet and everyone is very friendly. The creamery just down the road has excellent milk, cheese and yogurt; the bakery, meat shop and grocery store are all great as well. We also discovered this trip that there is a post office in town and if you are into singing, the church is lovely and has great acoustics. Cross Country skiing just over the bridge is wonderful and the rental is only about 1 kilometer away in Gluringen. Downhill ski a short train ride away at Fiesch was amazing and if you get the right ticket (20 CHF) return, the price is taken off of your lift ticket. George met us shortly after we arrived and was very friendly and helpful. This is a great place to stay in the Swiss alps!
I live in Bergen/Norway with my family, but we spend as much time as possible in my husbands hometown Reckingen in Switzerland where the flat is located. This is a lovely spot. The village is very authetic with old timber houses and small farms, and also situated in the midst of a most spectacular alpine landscape.
Since we live in Norway we are not always around, but are always avalable on internet or phone. My parents in law are always around and will be of assistance when needed. And when we are around we live on the top floor of the house and then we always like to stop by to say hi to our guests.
