NYC Style Loft Apt Walk To The CBD!

Apartment - Private room · Anderson St, West Melbourne, VIC 3003, Australia

The Space

We live in large New York loft style apartment 2.5km from the very centre of Melbourne's CBD. The building was built in 1898 as a biscuit factory and converted into warehouse shells and then apartments around 10 years ago. As a result, the apartment has a lot of character with modern finishings. It has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

We rent out one of the rooms, which is super spacious with a double futon bed and two windows overlooking a beautiful tree. And you have your own bathroom. We provide feather pillows and doona with fresh cotton bedsheets and towels. Wireless internet can be accessed throughout the house.

You can walk to the city centre in less than 25 minutes or alternatively North Melbourne train station is 3 minutes away, which will take you to Flinders Street station in under 10 minutes or 5 minutes to Southern Cross. If you catch the Skybus from the airport it's a 15min walk to our place. There are also several bars and restaurants very close by, along with the Victoria markets. It is a very quiet pocket, but if you're sensitive to street noise, it might be a bit noisy as there are often trucks driving past.

A bit about us. We're a couple in our early 30s who work in publishing and media. We love good food, wine, art and nights in chatting over a good meal. And we love our home! We're more than happy to share a meal or have you accommodate yourself in the kitchen. One of us is a vegetarian, the other isn't, but we don't cook meat in the house.

If you're after a stylish and convenient Melbourne experience this is the place for you. We're always happy to suggest what to do, go, eat, see.

Interaction with Guests

We will organise for the keys to be available if we are not around and are happy to assist with queries and offer suggestions.

Getting around

North Melbourne station is only a few minutes walk away and incredibly convenient. You can travel to Southern Cross station in 5 mins or Flinders Street in 10mins. Since it is the gateway station to the western suburbs, there are lots of train lines running through it, which means you never have to wait more than a few minutes for a train.

There is also a tram stop on Errol Street, which takes you into the city.

We do have parking out the front. Some of it has a time limit.

The easiest way to get to our place from the airport is by Star Bus, which will drop you directly to our door, but only runs 6am-6pm. Alternatively you can catch the Skybus to Southern Cross Station at any time and catch the train to North Melbourne (one stop and then walk). A cab costs around $50.

  • Paulina and Gideon were great hosts. Very easy and laid back. They helped me with a lot of pointers on where to go and what to do in the city. Had an amazing stay and everything about the room was as expected. Cool apartment few minutes away from the CBD by the train which is less than a 5 minutes walk away from the place.

  • Paulina and Gideon's place was lovely. My partner and I were at a conference all week, and it was such a great place to relax. It's the type of apartment you would expect to see on a design blog or in Dwell magazine. I think I got some good deco ideas for my own apartment too. Paulina and Gideon were really good at communicating, and they sent me a document with a bunch of into about the apartment and neighbourhood after I booked. That was great. Overall, my only regret was that we didn't have more time to stay there after the conference.

  • I spent just under a week in this apartment in Nth Melbourne, which is a short walk from the train station. The apartment was very tidy and well kept and the space was a large clean bedroom with lots of natural sun plus a nice private bathroom.

Paulina and Gideon were really nice and welcoming hosts and I enjoyed staying with them very much.

  • Paulina and Gideon are great hosts. The room matches exactly the description and pictures. As we entered their apartment, we felt like we could live here. It has style and is very cosy.
The bedroom has plenty of space, a very comfortable bed and plenty of daylight. We had our own shower, which is huge by the way.
Paulina and Gideon are very nice and kind people. We cooked dinner together and enjoyed chatting with them. In addition, they provided us with many tips for activities and dining in Melbourne. We had a great time at Paulina's and Gideon's place and for sure we would stay there again when we are in Melbourne. We absolutely recommend this place. Thank you guys for a great time.

  • Where to begin describing the wonderful time I had.
Paulina and Gideon could not have been more generous hosts. From the detailed welcome PDF to the conversations helping me understand their beautiful city.
The room and apartment very thing they advertised. I slept very well.
The location put me close to all that interested me (e.g. downtown cultural center, parks, and dining). There was nothing I couldn't get to by walking. I am a power walker, for those who are not, bike or by local train and you're at your destination even faster.
    Numerous delicious places to eat.
I very much look forward to my next stay.

  • This apartment is super lovely, really convenient for the city and the showground where I spent most of my time this stay. Paulina & Gideon were great hosts and made me feel totally comfortable, and their instructions for getting about the apartment and the neighbourhood were invaluable. I'd recommend their place to anyone staying in Melbourne.

  • We had a great time in Melbourne, and Paulina and Gideons home was the cherry on top.
Gorgeous exposed brick apartment, with a private bathroom, only 5-10 minutes walk to a tram stop or a train station.
Paulina and Gideon were very welcoming, and full of helpful tips for local gems to eat and drink at, and even providing us with travel cards to top up and use on the trams and trains.
Highly recommended for anyone who wants to get a feel for the creatives that make up the very cool city of Melbourne, and stay in a room that tops any overpriced Hotel for space and character.

  • This was the second time I stayed with Paulina & Gideon and once again it was the perfect Airbnb experience. Friendly, helpful and accommodating hosts with a great property in a great area. This time I also discovered one of the great breakfast places of all time just a stroll from the apartment. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended.

  • I'm sure the experience I had staying with Paulina and Gideon is exactly what Brian and the other Airbnb founders had in mind when they started the business: a great property, wonderful hosts and an awesome experience all round.

The apartment is a stone's throw from the CBD, making it an easy walk to explore what the city has to offer including convenient access to the Queen Victoria market, nearby parks and neighborhoods with great dining options.

The room itself is spacious and comfortable with its own private bathroom. The apartment feels like a brand new loft conversion and is beautifully decorated with original pieces of art contributed by local artists who are friends of the hosts.

As for the hosts, they were extremely gracious in welcoming me into their home and sharing what is clearly their pride and joy. We shared a few meals and a wine or two and they really could not have been more accommodating - really lovely people. All in all, I had a great stay and would not hesitate recommending this option to friends visiting Melbourne.
