House - Private room · W Positano Way, Tucson, AZ 85741, United States

The Space

Positano B&B is on an acre of beautifully landscaped grounds with a pool and waterfall. There are many private areas to relax and read or be entertained by the desert wildlife. This bedroom has a queen sized bed as well as a futon. The french doors open onto a private flagstone patio with Adirondack chairs, perfect for reading and bird watching. TV and DVD included.
The newly updated bathroom is down a short hallway and would be shared with the guest in Sweet too! if that room is booked as well. We keep it sparkling clean and the shower is wonderful.

We live in a quiet residential neighborhood with meandering streets and gentle hills. It is a great place to walk or jog. A few blocks away you can jump on the Rillito River Park Trail which is a popular running/biking/skating/walking trail that crosses the entire city. We have a couple bikes here and we'd be happy to loan them to you.

Tucson National Golf Resort is about a mile away if you like golfing. Or eating.. the restaurant is nice too. Tucson is full of fabulous golf courses and hiking trails and all kinds of outdoor activities.

Foothills Mall is about a mile away for the fashionista in you. There are countless restaurants in the neighborhood as well. The I-10 freeway is conveniently close to us.

If you ask, I would be happy to email you a link listing all Tucson events for the time you are interested in visiting... there's always a lot going on in the Old Pueblo.

  • Enjoyed our stay with Ruthann and JR very much. The pictures here of "Sweet" don't do it justice. Beautiful and unique South Western home. Room had plenty of privacy with it's own walkout patio. Very laid back couple, and a completely stress free stay. Easy to see why Ruthann has a full calendar of bookings! We did our trip to Tucson at the spur of the moment and were lucky to get a few weekday nights.

  • It's been about a month since my stay with Ruthann and JR, and I'm still glowing over it. I came home feeling rested and recharged and inspired, and that's just what I was hoping for! I just have to close my eyes and I'm back there–relaxing on the private patio, surrounded by the flora and fauna of the lovingly landscaped grounds, soaking up the warmth and peacefulness of the desert mornings, tasty coffee in hand...perfection! I couldn't have been happier with my stay at Sweet; a sunny escape from a frigid Pittsburgh winter and a refuge from the bustle of Tucson during the February Gem Shows. An oasis! Or as JR put it, their own private Shangri-La. I'm just so pleased to have had the opportunity to stay with such warm and gracious hosts in a place with so much soul.

Brimming with an eclectic collection of art, unique furniture, antiques, color and light and texture, Ruthann and JR's home is an inspiring space to be welcomed into. I felt immediately that I was in a very creative environment, and as a maker on vacation, that's the perfect space for me. I loved the atrium at the center of their home in particular, but there were so many lovely details all about, right down to the whimsical tile work throughout the home done by Ruthann. It really was a pleasure to stay there.

As far as amenities, the bed was so comfortable I felt like I was melting into a cloud at night–the shows can be overwhelming and exhausting, so this was extra appreciated. Ruthann puts out a lovely breakfast spread in the morning, and my friend and I were delighted to find a personalized guide book written by the hosts in our room, full of great local recommendations.

I am definitely hoping to stay again next year, and would love to treat my mom to a bit of an escape as well. She's sure to fall in love with JRs landscaping, and all of the creative touches throughout the property. We've pencilled it in!

Thank you for such a wonderful stay, for welcoming us into your home, and for sharing a bit of your paradise with us. It was an absolute pleasure meeting you both!

  • "Mi casa es su casa." Ruthann and JR embrace the welcoming greeting that 'my home is yours.' It's how I felt from when I arrived for my too-short stay. The reviews by others were entirely consistent with my experience. Nice when that happens, isn't it?

  • I just love AirBnb places and the people that we meet! A friend of mine and I went to two AirBnb's while visiting Tucson last week, one of which was to Ruthann and JR's home. We so enjoyed meeting Ruthann and JR. They were both very friendly and enjoyable to meet and get to know. Their home is lovely and comfortable with two great guestrooms, with lovely comfy beds - each with its own outside sitting area overlooking a very private back yard. JR and Ruthann are very artsy with a home constantly being updated with their beautiful SW touches - great decorating ideas for those of us not so artistically minded to see. While enjoying a wonderful and HEALTHY breakfast (thank you, Ruthann), JR played some blues and light Jazz on one of his 6 or 7 guitars. Can you ask for more than this?? Loved it and loved the place. Don't miss it!

  • JR and Ruthann were such friendly hosts! Their house was so beautiful! They even made breakfast. The bed was super comfy. No complaints! We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend their lovely home to others!!!

  • Ruthann & JR's house was a great little find! Tucked into a private neighborhood and easy access from highway and into town. Ruthann was gracious and inviting from the first email, set up, and arrival! She and JR are a wonderful couple and you feel like you're in a friends house. My room was perfect and had lots of privacy even though another couple was in the room next door. Sharing a bathroom wasn't an issue. I had private patio, everything I needed in my room and privacy when I wanted it. Their love for doing this, love for each other, welcoming nature, eclectic house, JR's guitar music, her jewelry, all outweighed a bit of dust, dog hair and dirt of every day living. I would stay again and recommend to others!! You feel like family!

    Response from Ruthann:

This beautiful property with its typical trees and plants awakens own desires. The pool has just been renewed and Ruthann was strong at work. Both are artistically inclined. While he is an avid guitar player, a variety of instruments can be seen everywhere, it is very interesting as a jewelry designer. Her jewelry is very tasteful. It was very pleasant and we would like to come back.*****

Retired American Airlines
I am retired (yippee!) American Airlines. My husband JR and I love having guests in our home. JR plays guitar for fun and creates beautiful landscapes for a living. If we could travel ALL the time we would. We have been on some great trips and especially love Mexico, Guatemala and Spain. There are so many places yet to experience . We can't travel all the time, so lucky for us that we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth...the Sonoran desert. We both love to immerse ourselves in creative projects here at home and so our surroundings have become this endless Home Improvement Project. We figured out a long time ago that we like the process more than the end result, and we'll never ever run out of ideas. There is usually music around this house. JR is often working on a blues song or jazzy instrumental and he loves an audience. I've started a little jewelry business and I dream of traveling to fun places, staying with Airbnb folks along the way and funding it with my jewelry money. Tucson has a wonderful International Gem Show in the spring so it's a perfect source for my beads and charms. Tucson also has fabulous hiking trails so we hike em. There are wonderful yoga studios so I vinyasa in em. Biking trails abound and we like to do that too. Our dog Lucy gets along well with people. She may bark when you first arrive but she is all bark, no bite. So, there. Now you have a little info about us. Now come on down!
