About this listing
Featherstone Bed and Breakfast is a delightful cottage situated on the lower slopes of the Port Hills on the South West of the city.
Set in a one acre informal garden with mature trees and numerous vegetable plots, it has views of farm land, mountains and the city.
You will enjoy a peaceful and relaxing environment, in our house which has a "cottage feel" with lots of wood, and Afghan rugs.
Your room has it's own entrance from a decking over looking the garden. There is a Queen sized bed and a private bathroom just across the hall. We also have a single room beside the double room - great for a small family or group of friends. We charge an extra 30NZD for this.
We are approximately 20 minutes from the international airport, 10 minutes to the train station, and a pleasant 5 minute walk from the house is a bus service to the centre of the city. We can arrange for a taxi to meet you at the airport if that suits you. We are just on the edge of the city, with farm land close by, and we can show you some lovely places to walk on the hills behind us and around the river.
Included in our tariff is a generous Continental breakfast to set you up for a day of exploring in or around our city, or to start your journey to other lovely spots in the South Island. Breakfast includes toast/bagels, muesli, yoghurt, fruit and preserves from the garden, teas and coffee - sourced locally/organic/fair trade where possible. Cooked vegetarian breakfast is also available on request.
We can help you choose local cafes and restaurants for your evening meal, your own car gives you the most flexibility with this. But we can organize takeaways to be delivered if that suits best.
Private English language classes with CELTA-trained teacher
Screen printing classes - take away your own creation in a natural fabric with water based dyes. Tea towels, cushion covers, tote bags - with images of NZ birds and flowers.

What a fantastic way to start our honeymoon in beautiful new Zealand. Sally, you made us feel so welcome and comfortable.
The breakfasts were amazing- delicious home-made and organic fare, and the omelettes were the perfect way to set us up for the day. We really appreciated the personal touches and attention to detail- vintage china teacups, eco store soaps and shampoo/conditioner, beautiful linens and a gorgeous garden.
Sally, I will be highly recommending you to family and friends, thank you so much. Love Rachael and Richard.
Great setting and private space. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Highly recommended.
A warm welcome greeted us upon our arrival. The room was nicely decorated and had a wooden terrace leading to a wonderful garden, which would put most fruit and vegetable market stands to shame with a vast array of naturally grown delights, also found on the breakfast table in the morning. Sally's insightful knowledge on Christchurch and the surrounding area was a delight to listen to.
Sally's home is in a nice neighbour in the hills overlooking Christchurch, I didn't have car and the taxi is fairly expensive from the airport 70 dollars, Sally very helpful and the buses are easy into the city and for shopping. Gorgeous room and a cup of tea at the ready.
We were at Featherstone last week. We loved it there. Very comfortable inside and out. Nice to see all the flowers and birds. Had a great breakfast every morning. But, most of all had a great time visiting with Sally every morning :) We would definitely stay there again!
Thanks Sally for the great time!
A beautiful home! Sally was a perfect host and the breakfast was delicious. Would not hesitate to recommend.
Sallys house was for me absolutely great. She welcomed me in such a nice and lovely way, that I really felt at home. I totally recommend this place. The lovely views to the beautiful garden with the flowers, trees and plants. The comfort of all rooms and not to forget the delicious and healthy breakfast. So tasty. When I had questions or a problem, Sally never hazitate to answer or help me. And also to mention her and her daughters creative artwork. You will find some lovely pieces in the room.
My two last days in New Zealand have been amazing like the rest of my journey. I want to come back, also because of such wonderful people like Sally and her husband.
About the Host, Sally
A practising physiotherapist for 35 years, I am now giving myself the time to follow up other interests. Growing and cooking our own vegetables, screen printing on natural fabrics, Qi Gong and Yoga. I love travelling and walking, and the Himalayas have a particular interest for me. I have had several trekking trips to Nepal and last year spent three months teaching English in North India to Tibetan monks and nuns. I live with my husband who is a family Doctor and meditation teacher. Our three grown up children are presently living in Christchurch, Australia and Germany.
I'm learning Italian - slowly! And recently had an immersion Italian experience in Perugia. My husband David speaks some French.
I enjoy meeting people from other parts of the world, and helping them to enjoy their stay in our beautiful country.
